This is the continuing series of Frequently Asked Questions about Rick Perry intended to adequately explain his record without distortion. At a Tax Day Tea Party rally in Austin on April 15, 2009, Rick Perry addressed the crowd of people in the prepubescence tea party movement. Individuals in the crowd shouted, "Secede!" It was a day of very red-blooded rhetorical baiting that all involved caught into the moment.
Here's a video compilation of that day when Rick Perry spoke at Tea Party Rallies in Austin, Fort Worth and Arlington, Texas

Really! This makes me like this guy Perry! Now that would be real leadership!
And Patriots would have moved there! Shows how he detests the commie liberal take over of our country. That puts Perry in the plus column.
I’m still pissed about the heartless’ stuff but this gives him points. Republic of Texas, f yeah
Actually I guess that a plus. Once they succeed we know he will not build a fence to keep the rest of us out.
We do have the right to leave.
There definitely needs to be a split between marxist states and the Liberty states. Then I can sit back and watch the marxists economically and socially grind themselves into the ground without raising my blood pressure one point.
Problem with liberals is you have to explain to them when you're joking, they just never see the humor in anything.
Can you imagine what the liberal elites would do if Yell Leader Rick Perry told a “Rock and Roxanne joke” at the end of one of his speeches? Oh, the Horrors!!
What can I do to get you over the “heartless” comment? I offer counseling via Skype. (-; But I have to warn ya, I ain’t certified. I usually make people like you who wear their hearts on their sleeves cry. (just kidding)
Cheers!
OK, that’s a bit too inside for me, I don’t know what that is LOL
The author is covering up for Perry. His real plan is to have the entire state abducted by space aliens.
This is a big plus for Perry.
Whew! Got here just in time. Now if I could only find a good stripped AR lower to finish my latest build I’d be all set.
Perry's own website disagrees with you:
"Perry was incorrect, legally, on the status of Texas in the Union. He was caught up with the popular folklore on the issue. When Texas was admitted into the Union in 1845, a special provision was included that allowed the state to split into five separate states for more representation. That is, the ability to have 8 additional U.S. senators. But it cannot secede."
I can see obammy writing his speech already: ‘Fourscore and seven years ago . . . ‘
I was at that Tea Party. Really good turnout, especially for liberal Austin.
Any state can secede at any time. If the legislature votes for it and the citizens agree then it is a done deal. Whether war comes or not following that is up to the other states, whether they go fascist like Lincoln or not.
The only problem with the plan is, as liberals love to remind us of here, is that the Demographics will soon turn Texas into another California. And Governor Perry isn’t doing jack about it with his coddling of Illegals.
There is a string of argument in the fringe right political circles in Texas that the state can secede. However, mainstream intelligentsia, such as political science professors at t.u., say that theory is bunk.
For a discussion of the fringe right point-of-view, see: http://www.texassecede.com/faq.htm
Clearly Rick Perry is a phony. He is a different man now than then, WIll the real Rick Perry please stand up.
aww, our Rick is stick our Rick. They’re just a’polishin’ him up to beat the heck outta the Democrats in Nov 2012. You know, don’t wanna offend those apartment dwellers in the bigger cities.
aww, our Rick is still our Rick. They’re just a’polishin’ him up to beat the heck outta the Democrats in Nov 2012. You know, don’t wanna offend those apartment dwellers in the bigger cities.
i was working in Dallas when those tea party rallies were happening. I didn’t get to go. But I saw Perry fire up the crowd at the Hannity Freedom concert in July 09 in Houston, and it was awesome. Kay Bailey, who spoke there too, didn’t stand a chance after Rick yell leadered the crowd up.
Texas vrs the space aliens? My money is on Texas.
This is the real problem. Perry’s decisions and inactions on illegal immigration are by default seceding Texas RIGHT BACK INTO THE GRIP OF MEXICO!
Texas leaves....we are dead electorlly
LOL! You’re right.
It appears that Perry is only one of the many people who disagree with you on that.
Not bunk
Believe me, if we wanted to secede; we would secede.
“This is the real problem. Perrys decisions and inactions on illegal immigration are by default seceding Texas RIGHT BACK INTO THE GRIP OF MEXICO!”
EXACTLY. His lip-service now regarding being tough on illegals TOTALLY CONTRADICTS his policies as governor (at least for his first 8 years here, then a bit of movement just before he announced). And his heartless comment revealed how he still feels about illegals and particularly the people that have problems with illegals.
Given the choice of becoming a Mexican state (i.e., independence, the way our governor is setting it up), or instead to leach off of Washington, DC (i.e., California model), I’ll still take the California model.
But ideally, we get a conservative for president, and then a conservative for governor in 2014. We crack down, and then Texas remains the great place it is for another generation.
Well, that’s a plus in Perry’s column. Still like Cain better, but I won’t have any problems voting for Perry.
Then why don't you?
Texas is more liberal than my state.
The nations first openly gay mayor .... Houtson.
In Tejas college tiution for illegals was not even an issue.
The Texas of today is not the Texas of 20 years ago.
Nope
We fought that war and won, remember.
Texas may own Mexico but Mexico will never own Texas again.
Funny thing is, the reason we fought that war against Mexico are the same reasons we are mad as hell at Wash DC right now.
This is hilarious.
There are three lines that will get your audience’s attention in Texas.
1. “I never feel so free as when I am in Texas”. Will get you heavy applause.
2. “Texas is a whooole different country” gets a standing O plus shouting.(It’s also true)
3. “If DC doesn’t clean up their act and fly straight, we’ll just secede.” Standing O and shouting.
Would we secede? Mebbe, mebbe not.
“The author is covering up for Perry. His real plan is to have the entire state abducted by space aliens.”
The truth is more out there than that. He *is* a space alien. He has the ability to morph into whatever the audience wants, whether the people are conservatives or La Raza.
And his hair is antigravitic. Probably held in place by some kind of energy shield.
(Cue Twilight Zone music.)
That’s a stupid question.
Texas leaves....we are dead electorlly
my guess is they wouldn’t be allowed to peacefully secede if us tax income is at stake
The difference between back then and now is: no true and loyal leadership, no courage,no allegiance. Now we have politicians selling off “residence” rights and “citizenship” when the bribery cash is gone.
Secession claims are a stupid idea.
Who knows. With his ideology of politically correct internationalism, he might mean that Texas should leave the Union and join the corrupt government of Mexico - his central heart love.
When croney capitalists and “citizens of the world’ traitors like Perry talk about leaving the Republic, think LaRaza rather than George Washington.
The supremes are wrong, just as they are wrong on other rulings. There is nothing in the constitution that prevents states from leaving the Union, if you think there is point out the article or the amendment that states this. You trust the same court that said Dred Scott was property and could be bought and sold and found a so called "right to privacy" that makes killing unborn children legal? That Supreme court?
Any time you join something, you have the right to unjoin it. The civil war started because the Union simply didn't want the southern states to leave. Lincoln didn't give a rat's behind about slavery, he wanted to send the blacks back to Africa. He simply didn't want the Union to fall apart on his watch, so he ended up killing 600,000 or so Americans to accomplish that end and called the Southerners "rebels" when, in truth, there was or rebellion. Secession is legal and just.
Read the constitution, all of it, including the preamble. Tell me what you think the founders meant when they said that men have the right to choose their own form of government and to throw the old one out if it becomes too onerous to bear. Seceding is exactly that, choosing the form of government one wants.
Thank you.
I live in Texas too. I don’t really get this open hostility towards Perry on immigration. He’s had a mixed bag, but really honed in on the border security piece since 2006. I tried to chronicle his entire record on it here, good, bad or great: http://rickperryreport.com/faq/rick-perry-illegal-immigration
If you can provide verifiable evidence to the contrary of what’s there, please fill me in.
Otherwise, I’ll assume you’re living inside an asylum in Texas, unaffected by what’s really going on in our state (-;
Sure, anyone can start another American Civil War and leave the Union. Ask Van Jones. Isn’t that what he wants? War?
My point is that there is no special condition in Texas’ entrance to the Union in 1845 that says Texas can leave the Union at anytime thereafter.
You guys are splitting hairs.
