There’s just no other way to put it. These guys all suck. Sure, one of them will probably be able to squeak out a victory over Obama, but what is the point? I thought we’d be okay with multiple conservatives on stage in this debate to choose from, but I never thought I’d see them all capitulate the debate to Romney, the way it went last night. It’s like their all on stage, but they’ve already surrendered to Romney. This is pathetic. Something has got to change.
I suggest a few things: 1 – Someone needs to get Romney’s campaign schedule posted, and ensure Tea Partiers/FReepers show up and ask him the tough questions in the way the Tea Party leaders went after Obama in IA. And like that encounter, they need to get it on tape. They need to specifically break this idea that Romneycare is the only thing holding him back. They need to question him on his positions on climate change, his people meeting with Obama’s people, his scare tactics on social security, and his flip-flopping statements from the past.
2. We had a Tea Party debate, but let’s have a Talk Radio debate, moderated by Rush, Sean, and Levin. Then we’d know for sure that the questions that needed to be asked did get asked. You could have it at Limbaugh’s property in Palm Beach. They can at least push the conservatives to be…well….conservative.
3. I have been preaching this for years (but I don’t have boatloads of cash), but someone needs to provide funding for the construction and development of the Ronald Wilson Reagan School of Political Communication. Build it as an addition to Hillsdale College if you have to. The point is that we need to have some sort of school that preps conservative candidates for maximizing their efforts in getting their messages and ideas out. Then maybe they wouldn’t suck so much on stage by cowardly running from the fight.
As it stands now, in order of most suckiest to least suckiest:
8. Huntsman – Everybody keeps getting annoyed at the fact that everything that comes out of his mouth is a petty shot at Romney or Perry. People might actually pay attention to them more if Huntsman himself were an actual conservative. But he’s to the LEFT of Romney, and that’s pretty freaking hard to do and remain in the Republican Party.
7. Ron Paul – As my “Generic Republican” xtranormal video points out, this guy should be in a mental ward under heavy sedation for his foreign policy luncacy. For the most part, his followers appear to be liberal anarchists and ant-semites. This guy is an embarrassment wherever he goes.
6. Mitt Romney – This guy has more “baggage” on the issues than any of the other candidates, but keeps getting a free pass. What’s more shockingly, he’s getting a free pass from the ACTUAL CONSERVATIVES! This guy sounds more and more like McCain everyday, even though he tried to play anti-McCain in 2008.
5. Rick Perry – WTF? If Rick Perry had had the opportunity to attend the Reagan School of Political Communication, he could have avoided the “heartless” comment and all the pitfalls with HPV and Immigration. This guy is clearly not ready for prime time, and now even today, Rush has started to back off on his enthusiasm of him. Rick Perry looks more like Fred Thompson 2008.
4. Newt Gingrich – It’s not a surprise Newt excels at every debate. In fact, if the Reagan School were to open, he’d probably be on the teaching staff. Yet, his own mouth and proposed “superior” intellect gets the better of him at times. Climate Change? Scoozaflooval? Right-Wing Social Engineering? And for those that think he would make mincemeat of Obama, you might want to look back into previous debates Gingrich as had against Hillary Clinton and John Kerry on various issues. It was NOT the confrontational battle everybody was expecting/hoping. Newt is smart enough to know what has to be done, so it’s puzzling why he takes the opposite approach sometimes.
3. Michele Bachmann – Surely, Bachmann would go after Romney? Nope, she was stuck going after Perry and Cain. It’s clear she’s given up and is fighting for Romney’s VP. If she thinks she’s got a chance at that job, she’d better think again. She could have been in the position to be the beneficiary after Perry’s collapse and Palin’s decision not to run. But she has floundered.
2. Rick Santorum – To his credit, he did take one swipe at Romney in an overall group swipe at the TARP supporters. But other than that, he’s been clean on Romney, praising him for the most part and going after Bachmann, Perry, and Cain. It’s clear that he too is aiming to be Romney’s VP. Why even bother being on the stage?
1. Herman Cain – Surely this guy will take a few swipes at Romney to distance himself? Nope. And Greenspan? Anytime Ron Paul comes across as effectively pwning you , you know you’ve really screwed up. Can’t tell if Cain is angling for Romney’s VP, but it’s obvious he has warmer feelings towards him than Rick Perry.
Dang, I’ll say it again, these guys suck. Let the Palin conspirators come out now. I’m listening. If you’re Sarah Palin, EVERYTHING that needed to happen (and then some) has fallen into place. All she had to do was pull the trigger. She didn’t.
The GOP ****in’ sucks, and that is all there is to it.

Last night’s debate was watched by all 500 of us who actually get Bloomberg on cable.
Romney has had 6+ years of presidential campaigning under his belt. But he’ll never poll over 40% (evangelicals will stay home rather than vote for him).
Yes, Cain flubbed the Alan Greenspan question, but that was so inside baseball that only Ron Paul supporters got it.
Perry has proved again that he can’t think on his feet (or butt as was the case last night).
Huntsman’s (price of a pizza) and Bachmann’s (turn it upside down deviltry) jabs against Cain backfired.
Cain will build and build momentum.
Even dumb conservatives like me understand what a delicious sight it would be to see Cain and Dumb0 go head to head in the general. The self-made American black man against the media made half-white, mostly other half Arab Marxist.
Call it UFC 205. Can’t wait.
All these years have passed, and nothing has changed...except it is no longer George Washington some of us want to be our King and take care of us; while others want King obama, and still others...?????

Gingrich had some interesting takes and Perry and Romney was not a blood bath encounter.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again — I look at this field and all I see is weakness. Not the “so-and-so is pretty good on the whole, but has some rough edges” type of weakness, but the “is this the best we can do?” kind of weakness.
I’d be uncomfortable at the thought of most of them being in the Oval Office. And the remaining few teeter close to that uncomfortable line.
I agree with you — I cannot see, based on this lackluster field, why Palin chose to sit it out. She was dominating the race without even being in it, and she should have been able to easily mop up this field of wanna-bes if she had joined the race in earnest.

well mostly its because the media did its job and made her look like a fool to the squishy middle that swing elections. she most likely could not get over the core 40% threshold in a general election.
she did herself no favors by having that reality show with a guest star from Kate from Jon and Kate plus 8 on it.
she also did herself no favors by resigning the Governorship looks like a quitter
she is also making a TON of money with speaking fees, book deals and her guest shots on Fox
When Palin bowed out, she took most of the fizz out of this race. The lackluster field wasn’t so intolerable while we were sitting here hoping she’d be getting in. Now it’s too late to find anyone better than the current lineup.
Perhaps if she had spoken up sooner...but no, the Palinhalers around here insisted she’d speak up “all in good time.”
I don’t say she hasn’t a right to do as she pleases, because she does. But I predicted that if she chose to sit it out, she’d be kingmaker, delivering Romney the nomination. And here he is, coasting confidently ahead of the pack.

I have to respectfully (which is more than you did with respect to me) disagree. I look at all of the candidates and am immediately struck by their glaring faults more so than any positive qualities they have.
And “better than Obama” is hardly a standard in any sense of the word. We are rapidly approaching a crisis point that will require someone in office with the ability, will and proven history in fixing problems of that magnitude. Those with the will don’t have the history (and thus, we cannot judge ability, and the situation is too dire to take anyone on the “hope” that they have the ability). Those with the experience don’t have the ability or the will (or both!) to do what needs to be done.
This isn’t knee-jerk or emotional, but a highly rational look at the candidates. We need another Ronald Reagan. We’re going to be stuck with another GWHB/Dole/McCain if nothing drastic changes.

Start preparing yourself now for some dark days ahead until 2016, which may be too late anyway. :(

I thought the entire field, except for Huntsman, comported themselves very well last night and laid out a fine case for conservative Republicans and for conservative principles they defended superbly. Bachman was excellent, Newt was the laser intellect as always, Cain exudes confidence, Santorum was passionate and prickly, Paul is a delight and you hear a pin drop when he speaks so bluntly, Perry came with his issues and record, Romney was the socialist defending conservativism /s. But it was the very best debate so far on substance. We’ve got substance.
He can arrive at the convention with fewer delegates than needed, and wrestle them out of the competition in under an hour. You have to know that. Do you think a tyro like Cain could stop him? What if the primaries result in, roughly, 40-20-15-15-10? He could take that majority he needs, with a phone call.
I do not understand how anyone here cannot read the writing on the wall.
