I am sorry Dave, but I am a church going Catholic that sees this as simply a spoof on his German heritage

Bad priests have done stunts like this, attempting to consecrate potato chips and orange juice, etc. It’s blasphemy, and there’s nothing funny about blasphemy. Sorry.
A little levity goes a long way towards improving the image of the church imho... my first impression was it’s cool how we Catholics joke amongst ourselves about ourselves and the faith
The first priest I got to know well was very much this way, and it made an impression- obviously the priest who supplied this saw no disrespect whatsoever
I would expect a German to be more offended than a Catholic by it, frankly
But you’re free to your own opinion, especially on such an essential issue for all of us... therefore I’m sorry it hit you that way
We Catholics DO have a great sense of humor in general. However, we should NOT joke about the Eucharist....particularly during this time in history.

I should have added that, for most things in life, I have an overly developed sense of the whimsical, and am considered a very silly guy. And I’m not worried so much about His Holiness, who I understand has a good sense of humor. It’s the Holy Eucharist, which for a Catholic, is the center of the Mass. I realize that you meant no harm, and you were trying to pass on something you saw as funny, and that is almost always a good thing. I’m pretty much always behind you, and laughing with you. And that will always be the case, I think.
If it helps, think on this: Remember last year, when Frito-Lay released the Dorito’s commercial capitalizing on a certain South American individual’s “church” of soccer? There are some things where it deeply bothers me, and the Holy Eucharist is one.
I was wrong to come down on you without being decent enough to explain what bothered me so much. And I am sorry. If it helps, know that it was out of the depth of my feelings about Him, and the Church. I hope that this helps, and please, accept my apologies. I am sure that the next one will strike as darned funny. Your stuff normally does.
