If you enjoy a little Jack in your Coke, you may be paying more for it soon. The tax man and the "fair share" screamers have a new target:
Jack Daniel’s and Lynchburg have been inseparable since a young man named Jack Daniel came there more than a century ago to learn the art of distilling corn mash into whiskey. He set up shop on the northeastern end of town and the company has never looked to go anywhere else. It produces 23 million gallons of amber gold – about a billion dollars worth, every year.

So a few citizens are angry tourists come to their little town and they want to slap a tax on Jack Daniels? They said themselves its the biggest employer in the county and a major part of the tax base....so how is hurting this company going to help anyone??
Is this about anything more than one “concerned citizen,” or is there a real effort to add a local tax? If it is the latter, I am sure there are many ways the company can send a message that they have already been taxed enough.
This is just plain weird—I had my first-ever Jack and Coke last night. Weird I tell ya!
I saw this story on Fox yesterday and it ticked me off too...and I don’t drink at all. Jack Daniels is an American icon. They propose to tax JD $10 per barrel because “they can afford it”. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
There is no Lynchburg without JD. The reason they are there is the water they use in their whiskey and the only other place this water can be found is in Denmark.
Imagine Gibson Guitars from Morocco and Jack Daniels from Denmark. It is mind boggling.
I haven’t had a Coke and Jack for over 20 years but I’m going to have one tonight in solidarity with the people of Lynchburg.

You can make good whiskey in Mexico or China, too, & much cheaper.
Old Mr. Rogers needs to be aware that some people (mostly young) believe that old people are a burden & inconvenience to society despite their many contributions, & should be taxed according to their age - the older you are the higher the tax. Besides, all that extra money could go to schools, police, & roads. Don't you agree, Mr. Rogers?
It is immoral to mix Jack Daniels with anything except a little ice.

Thank you expressing your concern with regards to your thoughts that we at JD could more than afford to pay more taxes to fund the much needed infrastructure projects you outlined. I regret to inform you that we have decided to just CLOSE instead, All assets will be sold off and profits distributed to our faithful employees as a severance package. Don’t worry we have more than enough assets to allow all of our former employees and executives to RETIRE comfortably.As for the city on Lynchburg, well I am sure your punitive Tax Plan will entice some unsuspecting business to open up in our place. For those of you who have never been to the distillery it is a kind of odd place to make whiskey in that the county is dry. You make all the whiskey you want. You just can’t buy it or consumme it there. The same thing happens all over bourbon country in Kentucky. Always wondered why. Strange liquor laws for sure.
Lemmy’s gonna be really pissed. I’m already angry. I had my three J.D./Coke (no ice) last night.
I know the businesses in my town (save for a few owned by some stupid old Codgers) would love to have 1% of the tourists trade that Jack Daniels distillery generates!
It’s outright theft.
All they have to do is buy some property up in Nelson or Woodford County, Kentucky and make their whiskey a legit Bourbon.
I’m just blown away that the General Manager for Jack Daniels is a guy named Tommy BEAM.

At one time only about three counties were wet in Ky. Down in Bowling Green the city was wet and the county was dry. Nelson County is where most of the distilleries are at and it’s dry.
I can see that this “Mr Rogers” has a different view of being a neighbor. Does anybody think that this ‘gentleman’ is a conservative? Me neither!
This is a case of “Don’t tax me, tax that rich guy / company because they are successful!” I remember when Don Hewitt (creator of “60 Minutes”) [1995 letter to Forbes Magazine] wanted to confiscate all individual wealth over $1 Billion to the Federal Government. Left unsaid by Mr Hewitt was what would happen to people like Bill Gates who would have lost control of Microsoft to the government since all of his then wealth was in ownership of his company.
Liberals are infinitely resourceful in spending other peoples money and there are always ‘needs’ that require more and more. In terms of getting that money they appear to have no idea beyond taxation.
