Gingrich compares Romney, Perry to 'kids,' plays up econ. ideas

Davenport, Iowa (CNN) - On Monday, the only history professor running for president offered stern lectures on economic policy, against President Obama - and even attempted to school Mitt Romney and Rick Perry.

"I literally felt like, the other night, I was the recess monitor on the playground, watching these two kids," Newt Gingrich said at a town hall in Davenport, Iowa. The former House speaker was referencing the bitter back-and-forth between the former Massachusetts governor and current Texas governor at last week's Republican presidential debate in Las Vegas, sponsored by CNN and the Western Republican Leadership Conference.

Gingrich also warned "that bickering is not going to be the road to the White House," adding, "There's nothing wrong with policy debates...Policy dialogue, handled with civility, is exactly what politics should be."

I still think he realizes that was a mistake, as suggested by the following snip from an interview:

WESTCOTT: Mr. Speaker, we only have about 10 seconds left. I just want to ask you a question from our Facebook fan page. Do you regret that — doing that global warming commercial with Nancy Pelosi?

GINGRICH: Oh, sure. Look, I was, I was trying to make a point that we shouldn’t be afraid to debate the Left, even on the environment, that was obviously misconstrued, and that’s one of the things I probably wouldn’t do again.

because all of them are going to be ahead of Perry in the polls.

Is Perry third or fourth now?

That seems to be a change of opinion, only because he is now running for president and catching heat for it.

Gingrich: I still agree with Pelosi commercial

The Charleston Post and Courier's assistant editor, Frank Wooten, talks about Newt Gingrich's recent visit to the newspaper — when the conversation veered to Newt's famous, environmentally-themed commercial with Nancy Pelosi.

Gingrich told us Friday: “I meant exactly what I said in that commercial.”

Plagarist!

Palin: Let me confess too that, we're four hours behind you guys in time zones so when the debates started, a couple of minutes into the debate, my kids started walking through the door after school and after playdates and they're kinda griping and bickering amongst each other and then the debate in my other ear the candidates are up there bickering and fighting amongst each other and I honestly for a minute or two didn't know which group should I be listening to and which group was making more sense. Thankfully, the candidates calmed down

With Perry dead last and sinking in the polls, your only hope is to lower the real conservatives numbers. LOL, does not seem to be working, Cain is beating Perry in Texas, LOL

So a governor is by definition an outsider? Like I suppose Rockefeller would have been in NY.

Gardasil is short-hand for Perry’s millions and millions of special interest deals, the TTC was the ultimate global government land and rights grab, and amnesty will be the end of conservative majorities in this country.

Gov. Goodhair is the chair of the Republican Governors Association, and if you think the GOP Establishment would prefer Cain to Perry as a candidate, you’re fooling yourself.

Rather than bashing one candidate or another, how about saying why your candidate should be the nominee. I want to see the IRS eliminated and 999 is a good way to start. There are 3 candidates I would like to vote for but only Cain has a chance.

Now why should I vote for your candidate?

Pray for America

What poll shows Perry last? Or are you just making stuff up again?

Gingrich told us Friday: “I meant exactly what I said in that commercial.”

The narrative for the commercial is as follows:

PELOSI: Hi! I’m Nancy Pelosi, life-long Democrat and Speaker of the House.

GINGRICH: And I’m Newt Gingrich, life-long Republican and I used to be Speaker of the House.

PELOSI: We don’t always see eye to eye, do we Newt?

GINGRICH: No, but we do agree: our country must take action to address climate change.

PELOSI: We need cleaner forms of energy, and we need them fast.

GINGRICH: If enough of us demand action from our leaders, we can spark the innovation we need.

PELOSI: Go to WeCanSolveIt.org. Together, we can do this.

I don't mind that he wants clean energy...so do I. However, he has pointed out elsewhere that cap-and-trade, bans on drilling, and other Dem-backed plans are not the right way to go. I agree with him on that.

Or Sarah Palin or Scott Walker. Governors deal with Washington power grabs all the time.

Just being a Governor doesn't make you an outsider obviously it just gives you the perspective from the outside.

“our country must take action to address climate change”

I would like him to clarify what action to address what change he wants.

I greatly disagree with that statement, but I am willing to hear what he suggests before I would rule out voting for him. He is among the bottom of the GOP candidates I would consider voting for.

Palin obviously truly is an outsider, while Goodhair’s an insider. Can you not see that?

And the perspective of an outsider comes far more to someone who hasn’t been a career pol—which of course Perry has been.

“Newt Gingrich is a big surprise.”

Yep. I couldn’t believe when he admitted to being the mastermind of Romneycare.

The problem with Newt is the same one Romney has. He will say anything to get elected and has no core principles. I think he is sleazy.

As a Texan, I watched the Washington GOP insider's campaign against Rick Perry and for his opponent in his last governor's race.

Rick Perry is not part of that crowd; many of those insiders actively work against him. I do agree he is a long-term politician with lots of Texas connections.

Your guy may not be invited to any more debates considering his single digit poll numbers.

So your plan, along with Mrs. C. is to tear down all of the real conservatives in the race. I’m beginning to think you perrywinkles are just nuts.

He was up against KBH.

Last go round, Romney was an outsider too. All things are relative in this game—and in the Establishment backing. Would they prefer and do they want Romney? Absolutely. But after that, Perry is their second choice, someone they can “work” with.

At this point I haven’t made a firm decision as to who I will vote for in the primaries. I HAVE decided that I will vote for the Republican nominee period.
