...The much-hyped Lincoln/Douglas style debate never came close to resembling the Lincoln/Douglas style Or a debate, for that matter It did expose Herman Cains inability to answer tough questions. Cain was asked about Medicare. He sat there for several seconds with a deer in the headlights look, before finally submitting with You go first, Newt. Translation: I have no idea what youre asking me. Lets hears Newts answer so I can copy it. Cain deferred to Newt again later in the debate when he couldnt answer a question.
Gingrich was respectful in choosing not to dismantle Cain, which he easily could have done The debate, in which there was no debating, was just slightly more interesting than that LSU/Alabama field goal fest which was ridiculously hyped as the latest Game of the Century Newt had a very good week, shining at the forum in Pella and the Reagan Dinner in Des Moines. If Gingrich can assemble a field organization, he could become a contender and reverse that one-way ticket to Palookaville.
Newt is playing nice with the rest of the field, but Herman Cain will get no such love from Michele Bachmann. She shredded his inconsistencies on the issues during a recent radio interview
That leads us to the Bachmann Bungle of the Week: According to a tweet from Stephen Hayes of The Weekly Standard, Bachmann said on Fox News that she just spoke at the University of Iowa in Ames. Wow. Just, wow
I guess that is an easy thing for any Iowan to get wrong
She did correct the record moments later, before heading to Waterloo to visit John Waynes birthplace....

Sounds like most of the debate went over the author’s head. “Where are the sound bites?”
Gee, nice screed from just another establishment blogger. So by posting this shall we take it you agree with him?
I see the Perry camp is busy whining because their guy wasn’t on the stage.
How about this. How about Perry accept the invite next time he is invited to his one 1 on 1 debate.
Rather then let the biased spin bots like this author tell you what to think watch the debate for yourself here

for later
It may not have risen to the level of the original LD debates, but it certainly was a lot more informative than what we have been subjected to so far. I addition, while Cain certainly is not on the same level as Newt when it comes to debating, he did exceed expectations. I would like to see more of this style of debates.
(((Chuckle)))
Good one.
LOL.
Too funny.
Got any more where that came from?
Did you watch? Newt and Cain both did well. Newt better of course because he’s more familiar with some of the topics. That was to be expected. But both men got along well, and showed they are worthy of consideration.
I’m frankly glad “Mumbles” Perry wasn’t there last night. It would have been a real bore. As it was it made a point for possibly exchanging this format for the debate format.
But then again, I’m writing to the wind. You don’t care about objectivity. You don’t care about debate. You only care about making hits against anyone not from your camp.
Oh, tell “Mumbles” hi when you see him.
No wait, they didn't think they could do well and didn't go. Oh well, maybe they can criticize the lack of vitriol or something.
The Iowa Republican is just another party establishment pimping electronic rag that has very little impact on reality. And this article is just one person’s mental flatus taking form on a screen.

Other than that it was a great exchange of ideas in a respectful setting. No gameshow format, no food fight, no drama.
No one can outdo Newt on policy facts, statistics, history etc--but Mr. Cain IMO is the one who can inspire the nation, with plenty of gravitas of his own.
I remember Ronald Reagan's first debate with Mondale in '84. He looked overwhelmed--but he ended up winning 49 states...
The problem with Newt is that we know for a fact that he’ll screw conservatives at the drop of a hat.
Did he discuss his pollster’s involvement with the Cain hit?
Yep. If one wants intelligence, knowledge and erudition, Newt's the man. If one wants consistency, look elsewhere.
This election is coming down to trust for me.
I trust the amateur who wants to do the right thing vs the pro who has his own agenda and hides it well.
LOL — The Wash Po?
I watched the entire debate twice. I know what was said. Do you?
