Juan Williams is one of Americas best journalists. Hes also an accomplished author and historian of the civil rights movement. Among his achievements:
* a biography of Supreme Court Justice (and civil rights litigator) Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary;
* Eyes on the Prize: Americas Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965; and
* Muzzled: The Assault on Honest Debate.
So its especially telling, I think, to hear what Williams thinks of the smear campaign against Herman Cain. Williams appeared on Fox News Hannity Friday night, and his outrage and disappointment was palpable.
Juan Williams: The whole idea is hes a token; hes a puppet. Hes being manipulated. Hes someone who is being used by white people.
I mean, its unbelievable. They would deny this man his own independent intelligence, his will, his own success. It is an outrage.
And if you think about this, [if] you think about what happened to Clarence Thomas, [if] you think about what theyre doing now to Herman Cain and the parallels are clear...

One of America's most biased, that I would believe.
“”one of America’s best ...” that’s a stupid statement.”

Certainly is.
Since I left the USSA, I have not seen him in years.
He always had the look of a dear caught in the headlights.
I always called him “Juan the Moron”.
I have anew satellite dish that has FOX news.
Maybe I will have the non pleasure of seeing him again.
I enjoy it when Juan has moments of clarity. A shame that they’re fleeting and he’ll be right back on the proglodyte bandwagon in no time.
I disagree. Juan Williams is a liberal, but I don’t think he’s one of the most biased. He’s sticking up for Cain here. In his autobiography, Clarence Thomas had positive things to say about Juan Williams and cited him as one of the few journalists who had treated him fairly.
I agree with Juan on this one.
They are racists!
He certainly is no conservative, so it must be the color.
I doubt Mr. Williams is one of America’s best journalists; however, his constant need to spar with Charles Krauthammer on Fox News, plus his shabby treatment by NPR have opened his eyes a little — a little to what his fellow Liberals are about.
Thanks ResCon1.
Cain compares himself to Clarence Thomas

He at least understands some professional ethical standards for reporting a story.
Most times he made blood shoot from my eyes, but since his wakeup call from NPR, he has been waking up slowly. He had a period of coherence after leaving NPR but went back into sleep mode. After watching him with Sean the other night, he was definitely out of sleep mode and I believe that was brought on by the realization he was not the only one.
I have friends who thought they were liberals at one time and through a sequence of events in their personal lives also hit the snooze button a few times until they got up and smelled the coffee.
It is my experience that an ex-liberal has the same traits as an ex-smoker. I have found that ex-smokers can sniff out tobacco before most others who have never smoked. Their spidey senses seem to be more tuned to it.
“A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged.” Juan Williams has been mugged (figuratively speaking) by NPR liberals. But he isn’t a conservative quite yet. Give him time.
I bought Clarence Thomas auto bio, read by him. I think I’ll pull it again it was great. Juan W was one of the few reporters who supported him. In fact, I think they had struck up a friendship sometime before Clarence came into the public eye.

Of course it's an outrage, Juan. It's more insidious than Clarence Thomas with higher stakes. "They"? Who? "They" will never be caught. We haven't seen the last of "they".
I think, in his heart, he is 85-15 conservative/liberal but both his skin color, and his profession have forced him over to the left.
He is making a couple of million from FOX to be the calm, articulate, liberal, black voice and they don't want him to change.
His value to FOX goes down if Juan does an on air conversion {in the long run} to conservatism. In the short term it might be a ratings booster, and remember, the whole FOX experience is about money = ratings = find the dog food that the puppies want.
The FOX motto plays to our ego and their bottom line, you the consumer are smart so, " We report, you decide". Fair & Balanced.
One of the all time great tag lines in American marketing, and a wonderful ego stroke.
Who among us doesn't feel better when some one says to us, "You are really smart, so we'll give you the facts and you make the decision".
OK, if you insist, that I'm that good, I'll do it, aw shucks.
I agree with you about Juan, except I’d call it at 60%-40% conservative/liberal. He’s more in line with liberal Christians than he is with liberal orthodoxy. He seems like a nice guy but has a block when it comes to the left’s agenda. It’s part of his trusting nature. His NPR problem woke him up but he still has to give the benefit of the doubt whenever possible. This may never change completely.
Doesn't say much about the rest of America's journalists.
He also sticks up for Obama. He does what makes himself sound most astute. It’s all about Juan.
