Crime · Europe · Law · Russian · World St Petersburg lawmakers consider fines for gay propaganda by Stephen Gray for PinkNews.co.uk 14 November 2011, 11:40am The city of St Petersburg was the imperial capital of Russia Legislators for the Russian city of St Petersburg are considering new laws designed to prohibit gay propaganda.
The draft law introduces fines for what it terms the propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexualism and transgenderism, to minors and propaganda of paedophilia.
Fines range from a minimum of 1,000 roubles (£20) for an individual to 50,000 (£1,000) for a business.
Polina Savchenko, General manager of LGBT organization Coming Out, Russia told LGBT Asylum News: By combining homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality into one law with sexual crimes against minors, members of the Legislative Assembly indulge in gross manipulations of public opinion. Their goal to pass an anti-democratic law, directed at severely limiting human rights in St. Petersburg.
In the name of public interest, members of the Legislative Assembly decided to ignore the Federal law, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the European Convention for Human Rights, Council of Europe Recommendations and other decrees by international organizations, of which Russia is a member. However, no public discussions were held.

It’s a sad day when Russian Christians and conservatives have more support for traditional values from their government than we have from ours.
I guess once a country’s population starts to literally die off people figure it out.

I want to see that in the US, soon.
These ads would be WELCOME in St. Petersburg, Florida - one screwed up town! Good place to visit, though.
I agree with this law. Peddling this crap to minors should be considered a form of child molestation.
BTW- did Russia ever get around to outlawing kiddie porn??
“BTW- did Russia ever get around to outlawing kiddie porn??”
Yep, their federal criminal code is recently updated with an article 224.1 offering 10 years of labor camps for distributing things like that.
I think the main idea behind this law is responding to a public outcry over gaypride rallies.
In Moscow there is a practice to view it as delinquent on a legal basis of disrupting traffic, public nudity display etc to charge participants with minor charges after.
St Petersburg is traditionally more liberal so does it’s judges. This is a law to make things straight for them and make no room to drop charges ruling disrupting traffic as a freedom to assembly and public nudity as freedom of expression.
It still pretty liberal in form as nobody gets jailed but it is unlikely for a rally to happend if every participant will be ticketed by every cop at $100 as obvious propagandist numerous time a day.
what about posession?
Oh, they’re possessed all right.
Posession is outlawed as well with chapter 1 of that same article.
So they finally got around to it. Interesting. Now if only Tokyo and Nagano can join the civilized world.
Wow, I never would have thought the day would come when I actually considered emigrating to Russia, but here we are.
