Alabama Law Pays Off: Unemployment Down Sharply After Crackdown on Illegal Aliens

Stand With Arizona

The war against Alabama's immigration law has intensified in recent weeks, with a Justice Department lawsuit, visits by DOJ officials, and a showdown over illegal alien children who have been pulled from Alabama schools. Eric Holder sued Alabama, trying to block every aspect of its enforcement provision.

Why has the Administration and their ACLU and La Raza allies frantically tried to stop Alabama's law from being enforced?

Because it's WORKING - and putting legal Alabamans back to work. As illegals have fled the state by the tens of thousands, the jobs they took - particularly in poultry processing, building trades and transportation - are being filled once again by Alabama citizens. And the unemployment rate in the state has dropped as a result.

Alabama's unemployment rate fell a half percentage point last month - five times more than the national average of 0.1%. And the drop is not seasonal because it is also a far larger drop than in surrounding states.

To further support this trend, in one heavily Hispanic county with one of the highest percentages of illegal alien labor, the drop has been far more dramatic. Alabama House Majority Leader Rep. Micky Hammon, (R-Decatur), said the huge drop in Marshall County showed the power of Alabama's H.B. 56:

Hammond pointed to Marshall County, which he called "a known hotbed for illegal immigrant labor." He said the rate there was 8.1 percent for October, down from 8.8 percent in September and 10 percent in June, when the immigration law was signed. "When Marshall County's unemployment rate drops almost a full 2 percent since the law was signed, it's difficult to deny the law is having a positive effect on employment," Hammond said in his statement.
Marshall County Rep. Kerry Rich (R) told WAFF-TV how poultry plants in his county have rapidly replaced illegal workers with legal ones to do the jobs that we are endlessly told "Americans just won't do":

La Raza Rick Perry would never do this as he has made a career of pandering to the ILLEGAL population in his state.

I understand from my state rep that there are some very influential business people who are big republican contributors in the Houston area, and that these people are the ones who keep shutting down any decent immigration control laws. Apparently they want to preserve the super cheap labor.

A business model that depends upon super cheap illegal labor and pushes part of the expense of labor onto the tax payers is disgusting.

One can only imagine if this law was enacted and strictly applied in California.
We might even have close to a balanced budget.

Governor Moonbeam and the California leftist-lature don't care about balancing the budget. If they did they wouldn't have just approved a Rick Perry style instate tuition for ILLEGAL aliens bill that will cost the taxpayers tens of millions if not more.

We're told these people cannot all be deported. Stop making it so they benefit being here and they will leave.

Why are his supporters ignoring the fact that Obama and Ricardo are EXACTLY the same. Why would both of them go to a La Raza Rally or seminar or whatever it was. I wonder if they were there the same day. Not only that, but I wonder if Obama and Ricardo are working together since they have the same principles and beliefs.

You are so right. They are some nasty people. Dennisw even wished me dead. Can you believe that. I believe he is a Democrat. He claims he was an Independent and switched to Republican to vote for his crush Perry. We have some seriously deranged folks on the Perry side. They are dangerous. I wish Jim would wipe out the last of the vultures. He has done a wonderful job getting rid of the Perry supporters but he needs to get the rest.

I guess they aren’t jobs “Americans won’t do”.

Every time I hear that phrase, I automatically mark the person that said it as an idiot.

I don't know about the rest of the state but crime is increasing here in the Huntsville area. A study was was recently conducted comparing Huntsville to Chattanooga & Knoxville (similar size cities to Huntsville) and we were found to have more crime.

Most of the jobs taken by illegal aliens have come from the black community.

My boss’s father-in-law has a big truck stop near Montgomery and back in Sept, about 2/3rds of his workforce fled. They were Mexicans (although he insists they told him they where here legally). The jobs are pretty menial, washing trucks and big rigs, cleaning up stuff, etc.

Anyway he’s back to employing locals like he used to. Mostly black guys. Guess the democrats gave up on the brothers here. The Republicans are getting them there jobs back!

Yes, and I can almost guarantee you that they're all BIG contributors to House Speaker Joe Strauss and the Governor.
