Living like Gordon Gekko! Wall Street protesters Occupy luxurious five star hotel

His rank and file comrades have been toughing it out in squalid tents and church basements.

But a leading figure of the Occupy Wall Street movement, who moonlights as a businessman, has eschewed the campfire comradeship for a room at a fashionable five star hotel.

Peter Dutro, one of the members of elite finance committee, checked into the sumptuous W Hotel Downtown.

The $700-per-night hotel, with 350-count Egyptian cotton sheets, also hosted Deloitte analyst Brad Spitzer, who covertly took part in protests while on a work trip from California, the New York Post reported.

Spitzer said: 'I’m staying here for work. I do finance, but I support it still.

He added: 'Tents are not for me'.

Spitzer, 24, also offered other demonstrators respite from the weather in his decadent surroundings, requesting a roll-out bed to accommodate guests, according to the Post....

They're making $14/hr. from the unions, but I suppose that doesn't even get you a room at Motel 6 in New York City.

The unions are paying $14/hr to occupy? Is this what you’re saying? Do we have proof? I ask because I told a liberal about the Craig’s List ad and was told it was phony.

I wonder how long it will take those protesters to connect all the missing money that was meant to buy blankets and food went and the fact that all the occupier leaders are staying at the Hilton?

I’m glad to see that someone else spotted the startling similarities to Animal Farm.

You get the leadership you deserve. Meanwhile, the elite “supporters” of the OWS dog and pony show, like the Clintons, continue to hoard the jobs and money for themselves, making the OWS point while allowing the true villains to be misidentified.

THe article is trash and your comments are off.

The Deloitte consultant isn’t paying the advertised rate for that room, basically the corporate rate at the W is between 289 and 489 a night (plus tax), he is a young guy so probably closer to 300/night which is average for the area, Deloitte has a housing allowance for travelling consultants, and any remaining out of pocket expense for the room is a tax deduction.

The W Hotel is a “distressed property” due to overleveraging debt during the boom years. TO lock in corporate travellers the management provide very reasonable prices to large corporations like Deloitte.

Also, the $14/hr gigs were for separately run events held in other locations, not to actually sit in Zuccotti Park.

Golly Gee Willakers you seem to know so much about this Maybe you can tell us who those protestors are, where they went to college, what courses they took, and who their professors are. And when they shut down the Brooklyn bridge who the leaders were. Can you name the names ?

24 year old Spitzer sure has landed a CUSHY job that allows him to spend $700.00 a night on a hotel room that Deloitte pays for. What a moron......

Actually, the sadder thing is that too many Americans have never read Animal Farm and therefore cannot even grasp the essential truth behind the resemblance, and - to be a pessimist - probably wouldn't take the idea to its logical, and necessary, conclusion even if they did recognize the resemblance.

You are both f’ing class warfare idiots who are acting like petulant children on FR.

I live in the burbs and work in NYC and stay at the W Hotel on occasion at the corporate rate. NO one ever pays 700/nt for a stay at the W, no one has paid that much since early 2008.

Every Newspaper in NYC had articles about the paid for protestors on the ‘Day of Action’, every one of the job postings on Craigslist, El Diario La Prensa and VillageVoice were for separate events run and organized by the unions, the same unions who used strong arm muscle to explicitly forbid OWS protestors from entering the union organized protests, including OWS protestors with NYPD and DC Metropolitan PD Press Credentials.

SO STFU you annoying little twits, some of us have had to deal with this shit on a daily basis and are getting pissed at both the protestors and the idiots like Hannity and Rush who are agitating on the other side using gross mis-characterizations of the facts on the ground to win political points in flyover country.
