ISLAMABAD: The Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) has decided to close NATO/ISAF logistics supply lines with immediate effect also asked US to vacate Shamsi Airbase in 15 days.
The DCC also decided that the Government will revisit and undertake a complete review of all programmes, activities and cooperative arrangements with US/NATO/ISAF, including diplomatic, political, military and intelligence.
An emergency meeting of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet was chaired by the Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani here this evening at the Prime Minister’s House which was attended by Federal Ministers, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Services Chiefs and members of the DCC attended.
The DCC reiterated the resolve of the Pakistani people and Armed Forces to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity at all costs.
The Prime Minister will take the Parliament into confidence on the whole range of measures regarding matters relating to Pakistan’s future cooperation with US/NATO/ISAF, in the near future.
The DCC strongly condemned the attack by NATO/ISAF aircrafts on Pakistani border posts in the Mohmand Agency which has resulted in the loss of precious lives of officers and men of Pakistan Army and injuries to several.
The DCC expressed heartfelt sympathies and condolences to families of the brave soldiers who fought valiantly and embraced Shahadat, and also prayed for the early recovery of those injured.
The DCC noted that strong protests had been lodged with the United States and at NATO Headquarters in Brussels conveying in the strongest possible terms Pakistan’s condemnation of these attacks which constituted breach of sovereignty, were violative of international law and had gravely dented the fundamental basis of Pakistan’s cooperation with NATO/ISAF against militancy and terror.
The DCC noted that NATO/ISAF attacks were also violative of their mandate which was confined to Afghanistan. Pakistan had clearly conveyed to US/NATO/ISAF its red lines which constituted an integral element of Pakistan’s cooperation that was based on a partnership approach. I’m unfamiliar with this airbase. I thought most (maybe all) air traffic came in through Manas in Kyrgyzstan.
15 days? Barry should be able to get in at least 36 holes over the next two weekends.
Logistical support
Virtually everything needed for these forces is brought into Afghanistan primarily through Pakistan. But the rising level of violence against the ‘traditional’ resupply routes through Pakistan has left the Pentagon seeking alternatives, most notably through Central Asia.
Now that they have annoyed the Russians with the so-called defensive missile shield, perhaps Russian can close down the Northern supply routes through the Stans.
It’s a major unmanned drone base in Southwest Pakistan, technically under the control of the U.A.E., so the paki’s can say they didn’t actually give it to the US.
You have to wonder if this might not have been an accident. Were they trying to send a message to the Pakis?

My daughter has flown into Afghanistan from Qatar. She said that there was some sort of corridor agreement between the U S and Pakistan that permits overflights of Pakistani territory. Like Future Snake Eater, I’m unfamiliar with any permanent bases in Pakistan. The USAF Security Service had a base at Peshawar back in the day, but it’s long since been closed down.

Spot on. We can’t survive as a fighting force if we’re dependent on Bahgram for suppllies. if we’re not looking to leave enough stuff behind to arm a small army, we’re going to have to find another way out, That will be Uzbekistan, and then by rail and road thru Russia to the Black Sea. I hope Karimov is too occupied boiling his enemies to be troubled by our arrival and let’s us pass.

It seems to me that money is not the issue. Rather, I think that Pakistan is adjusting to an evolving global real politik wherein US dominance is waning in favor of more hard-line islamo-fascism.
They cannot be blind to the growing influence of the MB through the various Arab Spring up-risings. We are out of Iraq in 45 days. We are staging down in Afghanistan. Why shouldn't the Pakis join the winning side?
