Perry hits a populist note as he starts Iowa bus tour

Gov. Rick Perry began his 42-city bus tour on a rather populist note Wednesday, saying a diagram of the country’s problems would be a straight line between Washington, D.C. and Wall Street.

Perry has been struggling in the polls for months but hopes a tour of Iowa’s small towns in the three weeks leading up to the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 3 can lift him back to the front of the pack.

“I hope some of you are taking a second look,” Perry said.

Perry is trying to sell himself as the true Washington outsider in the Republican race, and he was quick to assert his opposition to bailouts for Wall Street or “some bank in Europe.”

“There’s a reason that all of the Americans that we see today are so upset about what’s going on,” Perry said. “They know they’ve been taken to the cleaners, they just haven’t figured out yet who did it, whether it was politicians in Washington or these Wall Street financiers. The truth of the matter is that it was both. Both of them were in cahoots, if you will.”

He did not take any questions from the audience or the press, but stopped for a number of pictures and autographs around the room.

Brian Shea of Crescent, who owns a construction company, said he has not chosen a candidate to support in the caucuses, but is more likely to back Perry after hearing him speak in person.

“I liked him better in person than I’ve liked him on TV,” Shea said. “I think the media has been trying to make him try to have mistakes, and any time he has a mistake they jump on that.”

Perry has stops in Harlan and Denison this afternoon before joining other GOP candidates in Des Moines, along with 2008 Iowa caucus winner Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, for the premier of an anti-abortion movie.

Perry is traveling for the next couple of days with Capt. Dan Moran, a Marine from Texas who suffered severe burns when his vehicle was hit with an IED in Iraq in 2006. Three of the five Marines in his vehicle died that day, Moran said.

“I’m tired of people telling us that this country is not exceptional,” Moran told the Council Bluffs crowd.

Gov. Rick Perry’s two week road trip has begun. It will end in Perry, Iowa.

Don't count Perry out just yet

Over and above TARP, which he opposed, he’s stressing the recently learned info that the FED has pumped 7 trillion into various financial institutions. Without any control, oversight, facts as to who, what, when, where and why.

This must be the quantitative easing thing that has been mentioned but obliquely, not directly or in any detail, in some media outlets. At least I don’t know what else it could be.

Also we are propping up Europe.

No wonder he mentioned having gone on a reading tour about the FED after hearing Ron Paul on that particular subject.

No wonder he warned the FED not to print money leading up to the election.

There’s something going on, internal and external to the U.S., that a few people are running and it’s done in secret, with nobody in a higher pay grade to say boo about it.

About which the people are in the total dark.

I think this is what he’s saying about Washington and Wall St.

Mitt says Newt is “zany”.

Rick Perry says Washington DC and Wall Street are “in cahoots” with each other.

Now THERE’s a study in contrasting lingo that says a lot...

LOL

....I think this is what he’s saying about Washington and Wall St.

And why the GOP establishment is fighting tooth and nail to shake Perry off his bid for the nomination. As well as the trial lawyers, teacher's unions, the NOW gang, public sector workers and environmentalists.

No kidding.

And Rush reports that Gingrich said Andy Stern was a “forward looking visionary” and that his campaign is trying to walk it back.

Rush added, “This is why I don’t endorse candidates early.”

OUCH!

LOL...the MSM and 200 Freepers.

The only thing missing on that bus is a Christmas wreath with a big red bow on the front of it :)

Here’s to hoping that people actually read this. That people actually hear what he is saying.

Oh well at last there no pictures of Perry in a Carhart jacket standing in front an Eagle or something.

Save your time or money no Perry this time

CW,
Thank you for your posts re Governor Rick Perry.

I understand that he had back surgery earlier this year. I had back surgery, about 3 years ago, and it (the anesthesia) affected my memory for roughly 4-5 months. This may/may not be an indicator of his miscues during recent debates.

I am a native, 3rd generation Texan, just about Gov. Perry's age, and USMC veteran (from Private to Major). I have voted for Gov. Perry each time he has run for office, without regret.

I have consistently voted against democrats, since my first vote for Nixon. Seldom do I really vote FOR Republicans. I hope to VOTE FOR Rick Perry for President, in 2012 and 2016

Thanks again.
