NO, You SHOULDN'T Give Your Teen Son a Mustang GT for Christmas!

OK, he was 24...  and it happened in Switzerland. But it seems that this Mustang GT 5.0 owner -like many others- had a little bit of trouble getting used to the car's
6-speed stick and it's
troublesome reverse-gear 'safety' lockout feature: add to that a few hundred horsepower and no parking garage can contain her.

A miracle nobody got hurt, with a car falling out of the sky in a Swiss town center like that- just a bruised young ego, totalled 'stang, and a whole bunch of mooshed-up bikes down dere.

Chalk-up another one for hyperlegislative government and blood-sucking trail attorneys protecting us from ourselves and the big, mean auto companies... yet no matter how hard they try, still unable to outlaw stupidity.

I like how the top of a motorcycle is imprinted into the rear-end:

On a more upbeat note, new 2012 Mustang lookin good...

This is just my two cents but a parent that gives a sports car to a NEW, teen driver is just asking for trouble. One reason is simply that they are inexperienced drivers. Slush, snow, icy roads, wet roads, curves... all new experiences for them. Secondly, teens CAN (not all) be over confident in their skills (or lack thereof and tend to overcompensate). We purchased a used (low mileage) F150 P-up truck for our son. Let me correct that: We purchased a used, low mileage F150 pick up truck for us that he will be allowed to use when we say so. He will learn to drive on a small car first and can use the truck to go to school only.

I gave my 17 year old son a 1985 Chevy Blazer that was given to me, it was a wreck, blown engine, body rot, broken windshield crappy mismatched tires.

We spent the summer installing a new engine, lots of Bondo, a paint job, new windshield and new tires on aluminum rims.

But he still cannot drive it as he has an autism, but last week I gave him an early present a new Kindle Touch, of which I have complete access to through the Amazon Cloud server.

Every day I search and send him a book that I feel he would find interest in. Most are free classics. He especially loves sci-fi.

He can handle a Kindle, he CANNOT handle a 4WD truck.
