My math has always been terrible, but I do know that my CD’s are paying .10%

About 5 years ago, I had some CDs that were getting a low, low 4%.

Earlier this year, I was saying, 'I wish I could get 4% again.'

I have a MM that is getting about 0.85%, but CDs from the same bank are drawing 0.50%.

In his home country of Kenya it’s a kings ransom, or, four years average pay of 10-12 dollars per year. Like his step-brother.

and gone are the days of memorizing multiplication and division tables...

That's the major root problem. I grew up listening to sing-song-ey records (45's) that went through the multiplication tables up to 12x12. You can't find anything like that for kids nowadays. And their math workbooks introduce concepts too early without basics, IMHO.

Twenty dollars a week times eight weeks equals a paltry 160.00 dollars. No where near the 1000 the lying blastard is talking out of the lying side of his mouth.

I would love to see how these kids would do with a program called MATH-IT By Elmer W. Brooks.

I was a terrible student, zoned out most of the time because I was so bored. We found MATH-IT when I home schooled the boys. We learned everything together.
Math-It makes arithmetic logical, and captivating for all.

The New, New Math

I purchased a burger at Burger King for $1.58. The counter girl
took my $2 and I was digging for my change when I pulled 8 cents
from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the
nickel and 3 pennies, while looking at the screen on her register.
I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two
quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to
explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried... Why do
I tell you this? Because of the evolution in teaching math since
the 1960s:

1. Teaching Math In 1960s (when I was in school)

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of
production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit ?

2. Teaching Math In 1970s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of
production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

3. Teaching Math In 1980s
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of
production is $80. Did he make a profit ? Yes or No

4. Teaching Math In 1990s

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of
production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline
the number 20.

5. Teaching Math In 2000s

A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and
inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the
preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit
of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for
class participation after answering the question: How did the birds
and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are
no wrong answers, and if you feel like crying, it’s ok).

6. Teaching Math In 2010

Un hachero vende una carretada de maderapara $100. El costo de la
producciones es $80. Cuanto dinero ha hecho?

It adds up if you consider that under the new regime, a year will become 50 months to ensure nobody qualifies for Social Security until they meet the new age requirements.

Since Obama and the Senate only want a two month extension, why aren’t we talking about $80?

That exact thing happened to me about 2 months ago and the cashier refused to accept the single, then gave me $9 and change back. Too many of today’s kids are just plain clueless and (dare I say) stupid.

I was going to do a post about the idea that Zer0’s plan only goes for two months. Then I got the calculator out and divided $1000 by twelve to see how much that saved the “average” American each month. One month saves $83.33. So two months saves $166.67, but that’s all they will get with Zer0’s bill. The “average” American will then pay $833.33 more for the next 10 months. You pay $833.33 to get $166.67. Good night!

If you have two proletarian drones in your family then: $40.00 / drone month * 12 month / year * 2 drones / family = $960 / family.

The ultimate goal, in case you have not figured it out already, is to eliminate the FICA tax entirely and fund Social Security from the general revenue and from a tax on businesses. This tax would be progressive (graduated) unlike the flat payroll tax which the Democrats hate.

We don’t really know if Obama got through 3rd grade arithmetic—or if he did, did the drugs burn out his arithmetic circuits. I doubt if he took any courses in college ~~assuming he took any courses in college anywhere~~ requiring calculations, because that would require thinking and he appears to have gravitating to the courses that require BS artistry, not understanding.

Them thar Five-and-Dime stores of 50 years ago were tricky places, too. They had stuff that cost more than a dime.

Being a kid that always thought signs told the truth I used to get slightly irritated at 5 and 10 cent stores. Hardly anything in them was less than 15 cents and some items were a lot more, and this was back in the 50s.:)
