CALIFORNIA: …..“Texas Gov. Rick Perry has become a folk hero for people like Stewart as he's marketed his state as a low-cost and business-friendly alternative to California, which is fertile job-hunting ground for Perry.
Texas has added 929,000 jobs since 2001, while California has lost approximately 635,000 manufacturing jobs in that same time, Stewart said.
Answering questions after his speech, Stewart told the story of Perry sending programmed cellphones to CEOs in California with a simple message: "If you're interested in growing your business, please call me. I'm here to help."
"They're doing something right down there," Stewart said of what he dubs the "Texas miracle." "Gov. Perry will go anywhere, any time, to try to recruit companies into Texas."
Perry has taken the state's regulatory process and managed it himself, Stewart said………

The A5 processor - the brain in the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 - is now made in a sprawling 1.6 million square feet factory in Austin owned by Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics, according to people familiar with the operation.
One of the few major components to be sourced from within the United States, the A5 processor is built by Samsung in a newly constructed $3.6 billion non-memory chip production line that reached full production in early December.

The A5 chip inside Apple’s iPad 2 and iPhone 4S is now being produced stateside (In Texas), according to Reuters. Sources familiar with Apple’s production details told the news organization that Samsung Electronics is now handling production of the A5 in Austin, Texas. Among manufactured products, the state’s leading export category is chemical manufactures, which accounted for $38.4 billion (20 percent) of Texas’ total merchandise exports in 2008. Other top 2008 manufactured exports were computers and electronic products ($35.2 billion), machinery manufactures ($27.3 billion), and petroleum and coal products ($25.3 billion).”…….
The new facility employs more than 1,100 workers. So the next time you see someone with an IPad or IPhone say “Howdy!” for the good people of Texas and for Governor Perry. Amazing! Apple Actually Buys Something Made in America!
And for those of you thinking, “Yeah, just one example”:
Texas export total for 2008 was $192.2 billion, higher than any other state. Between 2004 and 2008 the export total from TX rose 64%, or $74.8 billion which was the largest dollar gain of all 50 states. In terms of markets, 32% of TX exports ($62.1 billion in 2008) went to Mexico. Other major markets were Canada, China, The Netherlands, and Brazil.

It did not fund educating illegals.
It allowed the children of illegal entrants, who were walked, driven or carried into Texas by adults, to pay the instate tuition rate for college if they had attended a TX high school for at least 3 years and had graduated.
Did you picture an adult illegal crossing the border and heading to a college, stopping along the way to pick up his “funding” for his education?
The children are not chargeable as illegal aliens, therefore they are not deportable as illegal aliens. To commit a criminal act you must be of age and have the ability to control your situation. None of that is true of children brought in by adults.
In addition, federal law mandates that these children be admitted to public school grades k-12, but after that point the Feds dump the problem of where to go from there on the states.
No, I didn’t picture anything, but as Univ of Arizona class of ‘77, I’ve witnessed more nightmares with illegal immigration including 35 deaths from men being left in a semi-trailor in 110+ degrees just to die so the trafficers could walk away, countless murders along the border, drug trafficing, human smuggling, and virtually every day stories in the news and in the papers about a problem that’s been going on for fifty years unaddressed for the most part. I was genuinely asking about the situation and the truth about Perry and his views because I haven’t heard enough from him to know. Don’t get me wrong, I hate socialism, Obama, the culture of corruption, spending, the lies, the double standards, pay to play, stimulus spending that is largely just a slush fund for more corruption, etc... I don’t know enough about Perry, and that means many others are simply clueless. (which most voters are anyway)

Partially my fault here in Perryville..lol. I assume that people read the thread before they bring out the hammers! My relatives in Texas were less than enthusiastic about his getting in the race, but dummies like me have to decide for ourselves.... oh and it has been fun!
I’m from Arizona too, and you have to know that if Sheriff Joe is backing Perry then Perry is hardly an open borders guy. I hate the illegal situation as much as anyone in Arizona and I know how damaging it can be, that’s why I understand what Perry and the Texas legislature did. Perry only signed the bill, but the bill makes sense since they are not “giving” anything to those kids, they get the same rate as anyone who lives in Texas. As another poster pointed out, they are the children of illegals and better they go to school then join gangs. Texas, as Arizona, is forced by the SCOTUS to provide education and medical expenses anyway, why not take the smart ones and let them make something of themselves. They also have to be pursuing a path to legalization.
You are getting close to driving the nail with one swing. I think Perry is really close to gaining Tea Party support if the immigration issue could be consistently clarified. I would point out that illegal immigrants are “living” in Texas, but can’t be citizens of Texas if they aren’t US citizens. My point exactly is 50 years of doing nothing about the problem just leads to more problems. I have nothing against Mexicans individually. Some of the nicest people I have ever met are illegally in the US.
I can make you relax. I just returned from a Perry/Arpaio event in Creston, IA and Perry was awesome. He’s ready for the big leagues.
A woman minister asked Perry about his position on waterboarding. I think she was opposed to it and was hoping he would agree with her BUT Perry said if waterboarding saved American lives, he was all for it.
The place erupted in applause. I think the good pastor did not get her desired answer.
I was with a couple of undecided folks and they admit they were very impressed.
