Don’t Shoot the Brunette Messenger

To say that the past two weeks have been a little crazy would be like saying Ronald Reagan “squeaked by to win reelection” in 1984. I had my first television interview, I’ve appeared on countless radio shows, and was featured on The Blaze, National Review, and HotAir.com. The Associated Press ran a story about me throughout the country. Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Dana Loesch, Mark Levin and Howie Carr all gave my blog post either a shout-out or an on-air discussion. To say I’m floored would be an understatement. This has been the most exciting week of my life.

One thing I’ve noticed amongst all the media attention was that somewhere in between the 14th and 16th of December, the focus of the story changed. The story was no longer about the abuse and fraud of the welfare system that I had witnessed while working at Walmart. The story became something different: me. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is completely beyond the point. One impassioned columnist encouraged me to go visit a homeless shelter. Others instructed me to go work as a social worker for a year or two. Still others were calling me out for everything including the size of my arms and color of my hair. Others told me they loved me and proposed. While the proposals were lovely and flattering, I’m still not the story. This shouldn’t be about me. The abuse of the welfare system is the story. That is what we should be focusing on. We shouldn’t be focusing on a 20-year old college student with a laptop and a story to tell.

She's right. Again.

If you click on Christine’s link and see her image, you’ll discover she is what’s known as “not guilty” around these parts.

Ever notice how conservative women are usually hot and liberal women are usually not?

I can't recall the exact saying, but it goes something like - "Before the age of thirty, you have the face you are born with; after the age of thirty, you have the face you've earned."

“I had one radio host point out that the majority of people on the system use it correctly, and that the amount of fraud reported is very small.”

The little escape hatch in that sentence aside, I’D BET THAT ABUSE OF A GIVEAWAY SYSTEM MEANT TO KEEP THE RECIPENTS ON A PARTICULAR RESERVATION IS HUGE. Huge.

Your accomplishments on the young activism front aren’t too shabby yourself, girl.

Proud to see you posting. Now give us some first hand opinion so that you don’t get jammed for posting just blog stuff. I think your moment to moment opinions are more important.

This "upstart" appears at a local discussion forum several times.

Her experiences, when put to print, show she's got the goods on Liberal "thought".

Her articles are great — she is clear and concise.

Her follow-up is dead-on, just as her original article was.

She has a great future.

Shes wrong. If we cant check out the background of journalists and point out their bias no matter what side then how do we sift through the BS.

If she wants to put her name on the article be ready to be fair game to a certain extent.

Thanks for this thread.

We welcome your article on FR!

If we do not like your IDEAS we will flame you in a New York Minute, well, with tact and/or humor, of course.

Some of us old codgers are a tad impatient, so get to your main ideas ASAP.

For example, instead of rambling on about your hair color, ( we at FR are color-blind to light-reflection variations from skin or hair), simply put your conclusions in the first sentence of every paragraph.

Thus, “ - - - I was condemning those who make a career out of welfare. - - - “ as the first line in your article lets us know if we should read on.

Hope to read more of your ideas/opinions in the future.

BTW, develop a thicker skin quickly, because some of us are a bit short on manners. (Note to self: Work on better manners, - - - - maybe tomorrow!)

Manners lesson:

Without manners: “You are a Godless Homosexual-agenda supporting Commie Pinko lowlife DU and KOS posting Romney supporter!”

With manners: “Don’t take this personally but you are a Godless Homosexual-agenda supporting Commie Pinko lowlife DU and KOS posting Romney supporter!”

See how much better?

;) :)

I had one radio host point out that the majority of people on the system use it correctly, and that the amount of fraud reported is very small. This is absolutely correct, and I’m not going to dispute that.

Gotta say ... This stinks of PCism. How does she or the radio guy know that even a majority of people sucking at the public teat do so with no element of fraud involved? I don't think the number of such people is "very small." In fact I would guess it is "very high" given the lack of people charged with fraud in this regard.

The story became something different: me.

When the responses you draw are personal it means you have already said it all and they have nothing of substance to rebut you with.
