Ron Paul: "If I Were an Iranian, I'd Want a Nuclear Weapon"
The Iowa Republican ^ | December 29, 2011 | Kevin Hall

Posted on 12/30/2011 12:02:03 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Most of Ron Paul’s Iowa campaign stops have been in the state’s largest population centers and college towns. Now, with a caucus victory within reach, the Texas congressman is taking his libertarian message to Iowa’s smaller cities. Paul visited Perry, Iowa over the noon hour on Thursday.

The crowd of 100 was definitely more reserved than what Paul is used to. There was no standing ovation at the beginning or end of his speech. There were no whoops or cheers, but plenty of polite applause.

“I like a lot of what he says, especially about the U.S. economy and balanced budget,” said attendee Jerry Kielsmeier. “I need to think a little more about his foreign policy.”

Paul stuck to his familiar themes of smaller government, cutting $1 trillion from the budget and bringing our troops home. “The military spending overseas, I am absolutely convinced does not make us a stronger nation,” Paul said. “Military might is sometimes military mischief…I think we’re in way too many wars and it’s time to change that and bring our military home to protect this country.”

Paul made is clear he is not just talking about bringing troops home from countries where they are in harm’s way, like Afghanistan. He wants to close every military base around the world.

“Just bringing the troops home would be an economic boost,” the Texas congressman said. “Why do we still have troops in Japan? WWII has been over for quite a while now. Why do we have troops in South Korea? Why do we have troops in Germany?”

Ron Paul has taken flak from some Republicans and his GOP competitors for his stance on Iran. He was asked about the Iranians’ recent threats to close down the Straits of Hormuz.

“I think they’re just doing that to say, ‘Why don’t you be just a little cautious and back off.’ And I think we should not impose sanctions. That is an act of war,“ Paul responded.

He also seemed to take sympathy with the Iranians position. “If I were an Iranian, I’d probably want to have a nuclear weapon too because you gain respect from that.”

Paul’s views, and his style, seem to be gaining traction in Iowa. One complaint about fellow GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney is that he sometimes comes across as too polished and rehearsed. No one will make those complaints about Ron Paul.

“His persona is more of what I’m used to in a small town,” said Perry native Jim Van Dorn. “I didn’t have that greasy feeling when he walked out.”

There is no doubt Paul has large appeal in Iowa’s larger cities. If he can appeal to small town Iowans, he has a very realistic chance of winning on Tuesday.

That's interesting. Isn't that where the Leftist and Commies usually are? What a surprise.

I seriously wonder if there’s a mental condition - some type of schizophrenia perhaps - that’s triggered by growing up with two first names.

I believe a lot of Ron Paul’s support is cynical (follow the money). Young people "looking forward" to no jobs in the Obama depression, or working on degrees in areas where government money could fund a study, a program (their professors have sucked on this tit for decades) -- instead of being “wasted” to support the "evil" military and “misguided” war on drugs -- which also ties into what they've been taught in many institutions of higher education -- so many useless degrees and “green” thinkers believing that Ron Paul is the Rx for what ails the country. So they're leaving support for Barack “hope and change” Obama at the school house/no job market door and flocking to Ron Paul which has the sweetener of hurting those “evil-rich” conservatives who are destroying the planet and are ready to “bomb” the world.

The problem for them is -- they never will get the money; it always finds another home. With the debt and deficit ballooned out of sight, that money isn't heading in their direction. The naturally productive ones will eventually “grow up” and realize the truth about living in a safe, free market society but many will hang fast to the hope (libertarians for sure) that once the "war on drugs" and the "evil military complex” have their wings clipped, some of those trillions of “wasted” dollars will certainly flow to them. It won't and their lot will be worse. We have for too long been building “me-me-itis” generations, whose values and goals are nurtured and fanned by teachings of socialist professors spawned in the Sixties who have multiplied themselves with our youth.

So Ron Paul is their cup of tea. They’re only one step away from OWS (most likely have a foot in both camps already). If Ron Paul definitively said, "I will not run third Party," much of his support would evaporate today. Which is precisely why he has not ruled it out.

Which all goes to show that Ron Paul thinks exactly like a Dictatorial, Fascist Iranian America hating Shiite Ayatollah Theocrat.

He has more in common with the Ayatollahs and the PLO than even Obama. His VP should be his good friend in Congress, Dennis Kucinich. The those two are each so far around the bend in their respective ideology's that have met in their common fever swamp.

I agree. I know a lot of folks are worried that if Paul runs third party, it guarantees an Obummer win. I look at his base of support and believe that it will be quite the opposite. I've seen this picture before and it will hurt the incumbent.

All of these people who wouldn't vote GOP anyway will end up going to Paul instead of Obummer. That is why we need a Conservative as the nominee, whoever it is.

Ron Paul better watch it. His support is coming from leftists, libertarians and kids. With crazy comments like these he is poisoning TGE well for his son, who seems like a reasonable guy.
Rand Paul is the reason why Ron Paul will never go 3rd party. It would kill off any hopes for his son’s future by placing him, a sitting Senator, in an impossible situation.

Thanks Cincinatus' Wife.
He was asked about the Iranians' recent threats to close down the Straits of Hormuz. "I think they're just doing that to say, 'Why don't you be just a little cautious and back off.' And I think we should not impose sanctions. That is an act of war,"
If he were Iran, he'd seize the US embassy, and order his Hizbollah proxies to bomb the US Marines in Beirut. If he were al-Qaeda, he'd arrange the destruction of the World Trade Center with hijacked planes and blame it on the Mossad.

According to the former Ron Paul staffer, the candidate doesn't believe we should have risked American lives to stop the Holocaust, doesn't believe in the right of Israel to exist, hence it's consistent that Ron Paul thinks Ahmadinejad has a right to a nuclear Holocaust II.

"Why do we have troops in Germany?”

Because if Ron Paul were a German, he'd want a nuclear weapon. They used to say that the purpose of NATO was to keep the Russian out, the Americans in and the Germans down.

If Paul were somehow elected I would move. I could not live in a country that didn’t give my tax dollars to Israel, use my money to defend South Korea (among umpteen other countries), and lock non-violent offenders in cages for using naughty plants.

Isolationism is the Greatest Evil known to man. If we had stayed out of the First World War there might not have been a second one for us to win. Paul is an existential threat to everything America stands for.

Frightening to imagine he's gotten this far in the election...more frightening is he didn't get this far without supporters who think and believe as he does...and they live and work among us.

Beady eyed Ron Paul has no concept about our military presence in other countries or understanding of International Diplomacy or otherwise.

People who are supporting him are islolationalists just as he is...and furthermore I see them as anti-american for supporting Ron... His stance on International Affairs is anti-american.
