Perry,Iowa After witnessing the Perry rally in Perry, Iowa, I have a sudden urge to rush out, purchase a firearm, and start rearing eagles. And if it had that effect on me, you know it was potent stuff.
The Perry rally at the HotelPattee was far, far nicer than the Santorum rally. Santorum stood on the stairs and addressed a tepid crowd of people without amplification, only four of whom were holding signs, while someone vacuumed in the background. Perry had a country music performer entertaining crowds in a nice room that Santorum seemed unaware was part of the building. The crowd was large and energetic. They shouted, Amen! and waved flocks of Perry signs. They interrupted him with tumultuous laughter and applause.
...It was all so aggressively, enthusiastically appealing to all patriotic impulses as to be very nearly cynical. Here I am! Send me! Perry volunteered, in the words of the prophet. The crowd went wild. You couldnt stand there unmoved as two governors, two veterans, a country singer, and RickPerry, with tears in his eyes, begged you in front of a mural with grain on it to have my back tomorrow at the caucuses, and Ill have your back the next four years in Washington!
You felt that it might be almost cruel to send this man to Washington, a place he so clearly hated. But he had to go, because Isaiah had said so. Next I was expecting a yellow SupportThe Troops bumper sticker to emerge from the wings shouting, I, too, endorse Rick Perry! as several eagles flew overhead in formation and someone drilled down into the middle of the assembly to release a flood of oil and Jesus glanced down from the sky and nodded a manly nod, as though he approved....

Almost half of all jobs filled during Obama Depression: Texas
Texas Employment Update!
Typical Washington Post. Alexandra Petri’s piece typifies the high-school level liberal “editorial” given play in the media nationwide, dripping with familiar distain for the intellectually inferior, small-minded American, seething with haughty, self-righteous rage, devoid of meaningful content or insight.
Exactly.
We’re too stupid (grounded in family values and American excetionalism, hoping Obama fails).
Ok, that’s it. If nothing else, I’ll vote for Gov. Perry just to piss these people off.
OK, Rick Perry gets the yeehaw award hands down (or is it eagle claws down?)
But Santorum is much more of a mensch.
41% of Iowans are undecided and the Left (along with Fox News) is going to keep pushing Perry down, hoping to give Mitt a boost out of Iowa.
I would argue that but instead will point out that Gov. Perry is the executive of Texas and all that comes with it besides the "yeehaws" - like a SURGING economy in an Obama economy (they were "handed" the same one -- look who did what with it).
Everybody is getting Mittboated, and it’s not just Perry. That nincompoop Romney, he’d Mittboat himself.
Just a shame that in every debate he’s involved in, he manages to give the impression he’s as thick as a whale omelet.
This may not of course be the case, but this is politics, and the perception you give to the non-political-junkies of America (the vast majority of the electorate) who will only ever see or hear the soundbites, is kinda crucial.
Can’t hurt to have several newly viable oilfields in various corners of your state, of course. All a governor of that kind of place has to do is not bumble too badly in order to reap the halo.
I’ll recommend the undefeated Texas governor over your handily defeated Pennsylvania legislating Senator.
That’s Gardasilly.
Betting on Rick Perry - a winner in a GOP year, with no need in the world to win liberal approval ..IT WILL BE THE JOBS ISSUEand Texass record in creating themthat will define Rick Perrys presidential run. Since he became governor in 2001, the U.S. as a whole has had a net loss of private-sector jobs, while Texaswhich has only 8 percent of the nations populationhas had a net gain of 825,000 jobs.
Richard Fisher, president of the Dallas Federal Reserve Board, told me that if you look at the number of jobs created since the recession technically ended in June 2009, Texas has accounted for 48 percent of net new jobs created in the U.S.
Fisher also disparages claims that the jobs are all low-paying jobs at McDonalds or Walmart, paying the minimum wage, or that they were primarily caused by the oil and natural gas boom. According to Tom Pauken of the Texas Work Force Commission, the annual median wage in Texas in 2010 for all occupations was $31,500 a year, only 7 percent below the national average. That difference is easily explained by the fact that Texas has a younger workforce than most states and a higher percentage of workers in lower-pay agriculture jobs near the border with Mexico. [ CW: Cost of living in Texas is lower than many other states; Texas has no state income tax; Texas is a right to work state.]
As for where the job growth has been, three sectors of the economy have grown faster than the energy sector, which alone added 40,500 net new jobs in 2010. Last year, Texas added 57,900 new jobs in trade, transportation, and utilities; a total of 53,400 jobs in professional and business services; and 44,900 net new jobs in the hospitality industry.
For each of the past seven years, CEOs polled by Chief Executive magazine have rated Texas first in the nation for economic development climate and job growth. What is the secret of Texass success? Rick Perry isnt shy about his answer. Its all about four points, he told me. First, dont spend all the money. Keep the taxes low and under control. Have regulations that are fair and predictable so business owners know what to expect from one quarter to the next. And reform the legal system so that frivolous lawsuits dont paralyze employers who are trying to create real wealth.
If there is on issue which Perry has made a personal crusade, it is lawsuit reform. Working with the legislature, he has helped pass curbs on frivolous lawsuits, implemented a first-in-the-nation system under which loser pays all court costs in many lawsuits, and reformed medical malpractice law.
Dick Weekley, the co-founder of Texans for Lawsuit Reform, says Perry showed genuine political courage in resisting calls for watered-down reforms that wouldnt have addressed the core problem. He recalls that in 2002 Perry vetoed a bill strongly supported by doctors that would have required them to prompt payment from health maintenance organizations. In the eyes of the tort reform advocates, the bill was a Trojan Horse compromise negotiated between doctors and trial lawyers. There was a huge response from physicians [against the veto], Kim Ross, the former top lobbyist for the Texas Medical Association, said. TMA went so far as to endorse Tony Sanchez, Perrys millionaire Democratic opponent in the 2002 election. Perry sent a signal that he wanted real reform and would stand his ground, Weekley told me. Soon the medical lobbyists playing footsie with the trial lawyers were gone and the obstacles to real reform started falling.
..
.The Gardasil [cervical cancer] vaccine was recommended the FDAs vaccine approval committee, more than 6 months before Governor Perrys Executive Order. All girls who qualified for the Federal Vaccines for Children program were eligible to receive the vaccine free of charge: Medicaid, CHIPs, and uninsured or those with insurance that wont pay for vaccines. The Texas Legislature had previously delegated unconditional authority to mandate new vaccines to the Department of State Health Services, which is under Governor Perry and the Executive Branch. Source
Gov. Perry's E.O. [opt out] also made all required vaccines easier to opt out of. The Legislature moved to kill the E.O. and Gov. Perry made no objection. No one was given the vaccine from the E.O.
Recently: Routine HPV vaccine recommended for boys - The panel that advises the CDC on vaccines recommends that the shot be given to boys ages 11 and 12 in addition to girls, noting that the virus is linked to many other cancers besides cervical.
However, as of 2010, only about a third of U.S. girls had received the three-dose vaccine, and the rates are plateauing, said Dr. Anne Schuchat, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.
Another potential barrier to routine use is money. The three-shot series costs at least $300.
"Year after year we continue to have evidence of low uptake in girls," said Dr. Jane Kim, an assistant professor of health decision science at Harvard School of Public Health who has studied the cost-effectiveness of the HPV vaccine. "When we're at such low coverage for girls, it is of value to vaccinate boys."
It's not clear how well parents will embrace vaccination of their adolescent sons. Those who are dubious should know that vaccination against HPV may help prevent other types of cancers, such as those of the penis, head, neck and mouth, said Dr. Jessica Kahn, associate professor of pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and chair of the vaccinations committee for the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, which supported the recommendation.
Rates of oral cancers are rising, and HPV infection is now thought to account for more cases of oral cancer than tobacco use, Kahn said.
And, she added, the vaccine is just as safe and effective in boys as in girls.
The key to acceptance, Kahn added, will be in making sure that parents understand the range of diseases that HPV can cause in their sons. The role of HPV in cervical cancer is broadly known, she said. "But we fall short in explaining what HPV can cause in boys and men."
And which MSM outlet do you subscribe to?
It seemed that various missives from the TX bureaucracy couldn’t even agree on what parents’ rights were on Gardasil until Austin shot it down.
Washington needs better coordination than that. Imagine this happening at a Federal level. Imagine the confusion.
No, no, no. This is a clear insult to whale omelets.
Can Perry get the geek factor out of his tax reform proposals? First phase, Second phase, first-and-a-halfth phase, it’s a scene right out of Dilbert.
My own eyes, in watching every debate live on TV. We can blame the MSM, quite fairly, for many things: but not, I think, for Perry’s recurrent (lack of) ability to string a coherent sentence together on his feet in response to any number of questions.
You point being, here? Or are you simply attempting to switch the subject to the topic of the MSM?
ping for later
Even the MSM is tired of that old “gaffe” line — it’s obvious to the viewers that the other candidates haven’t gotten that treatment. But if it makes you happy, continue with it — but be advised, using dated, media talking points leaves you appearing non-creative, unable to find another stick.
Red, Red, Red, the Idolatry crowd only cares that there gang leader gets elected. They’ll happily shoot up their kids to show their devotion. Legislation shmasion. We live under an authoritarian rule where government cronies are the source from which all blessings flow, don’tcha know.
Zajko, you have to follow the advice of your own tagline. Thankfully Perry will eventually run out of money despite the socialist fatcats propping him up. Then he can slink back to Texas, you know, that place he promised to fulfill his term in and not run for higher office.
Much as Perry’s slick media-machine would like us all to swallow that line, we’re not referring to a one-off ‘gaffe’, now, are we? We’re all human, and anyone could and would be forgiven for that. We’re talking about a permanent inability to articulate and ‘think on your feet’, to a level that make Bush, and even Obama, look like skilled debaters.
Beyond that, I have far more fundamental issues with Perry. Im simply looking for a conservative candidate who
(a) actually believes what he claims to believe, and sticks to it, even when it may not be politically expedient to do so
(b) can beat Obama
Romney fails on (a), and Paul on (b). Perry (a man who served 6 years as a Democrat in the Texas House of Representatives, worked on Al Gores campaign, and then switched sides out of personal political convenience) fails on both.
Disclosure reports show that neither Bob Perry [Perry Homes/home builder] nor his wife have donated to Rick Perry's presidential bid. Bob Perry has given money to other candidates but not to Rick Perry. The biggest recipient is Mitt Romney. Bob Perry and his wife gave a combined $5,000 to Romney's early this year and $500,000 to the super PAC Restore Our Future that supports Romney.
In 2008, they supported Romney's nomination with a $5,000 donation between them. According to disclosure reports Gov Tim Pawlenty received a combined $10,000 to his presidential campaign and another $60,000 to his political action committee from Bob Perry and his wife. Bob Perry is also the top donor to the Karl Rove-linked super PAC American Crossroads.

Donors to Bush absent for Perry [9-1 support Romney] WASHINGTON Fewer than one in 10 of the top fundraisers who helped George W. Bush shatter records for presidential campaign money in 2000 and 2004 have donated to Texas Gov. Rick Perrys 2012 presidential campaign, a Houston Chronicle analysis of Federal Election Commission data has found.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney holds a wide lead over other GOP presidential hopefuls in donations received from the 939 Pioneers and Rangers who raised at least $100,000 each for the Bush presidential efforts."

Well, not exactly. The Lucas Gusher (Spindletop oil well) blew in 1901, so using your logic, every Texas governor since Joseph D. Sayers (1899-1903), unless they were some bumbling idiot, should have earned one of your Heavenly Halos for outstanding job creation. ;)
Then again, it took us until 1979 to elect a governor without the "Dem" behind his name. Maybe that's what skewed the logic.
I notice the picture you posted @2 has a giant notecard to help Perry remember what points his handlers want him to say. Is it because he forgets what he’s supposed to say he’s going to cut with that big ole ax of his?
As far as your cut and paste robotic comments, I don’t read them. Perry’s going down, down, down. Then again, he polls near “none of the above,” so how could he hope to get anyone to hold their nose and vote for him. We won’t.
Good advice, and maybe I should take it, with apologies to whale omelets everywhere :)
.....Perry (a man who served 6 years as a Democrat in the Texas House of Representatives, worked on Al Gores campaign, and then switched sides out of personal political convenience) fails on both.
Rick Perry started as a Democrat in West Texas (essentially THE only party). He served in the Texas legislature - was known as one of the "pit bulls," conservative members who sat in the lower pit of the House Appropriations Committee and bitterly fought spending increases.
Perry changed parties in 1989, joining Phil Gramm and other conservative Texas Democrats, who now had a true ideological party with a burgeoning Texas GOP.
When Perry campaigned for Lt. Gov. [1998], he and his campaign staff were in it to win and his hard-nosed style was against the "friendly" advice and request of GWB [in re-election bid for Texas Gov] and Rove to run easy against Sharp, a popular democrat (and Aggie friend of Perry's from their A&M years together). Rove wanted to broaden Bush's base for his upcoming White House run. Perry told them he'd run his campaign his own way, because he knew the voters would vote for Bush for Gov. and then cross back over and vote for Sharp (D) for Lt. Gov, if he just walked through the motions like the Bush-Rove team asked him to do.
Perry won the seat for Lt. Gov. -- the first Republican elected to that office since Reconstruction. Now 13 years later and into his 3rd term as Texas governor, the GOP holds a super majority. So Perry has earned his conservative spurs -- fighting both parties!
[The Bushes and Rove supported Kay Bailey Hutchison's primary challenge against Gov. Perry in the 2010 election too]

"During his time in Congress, [Al] Gore opposed federal funding of abortion, voting in favor of a bill which supported a moment in silence in schools, and voting against a ban on interstate sales of guns. Rick Perry: Al Gore's gone to Hell
LOL. Now you should sit down and write all the whale omelettes a nice note, letting them know how vewy, vewy sorry you are. ;-)
Ah yes, of course: he just woke up one morning after half his life (and three full terms of elective office) as a democrat, and saw the Light. I understand now.
I have to say I do love the Perry campaign’s chosen line of “please let’s move on from discussing how obviously stupid our guy shows himself to be every time he opens his mouth, that’s a tired old MSM talking point now, and not relevant to his electability to the most powerful office in the world.” I understand it’s making the best you can out of a difficult political reality, but please: save that kind of facile pseudo-argument for your democrat friends.
I’ll now take JDW11235’s (and my tagline’s) advice leave y’all in peace to continue this exciting discussion as I head off to work. Have a nice day :)
Are you taking a creative writing class?
You don’t have to imagine, it happens all the time. The federal government thinks we have no right to choose our own toilets, light bulbs, health insurance, cars, fuel, etc. The difference is that Perry relented when voters made it known they felt that he overstepped his powers, the federal government does not ever relent. Perry may have done stuff people do not like but he has shown that if voters get upset about one of his decisions he will bend to their will, I think that is a good thing. I don’t see this election as a choice between Perry and the mythical perfect conservative. I see it as a choice between Perry and the very imperfect people he is running against. I personally fail to see how electing the architect of Romney care or the Pelosi couch sharing global warming guy would be better for the country than electing Perry. I think Perry would do a much better job of promoting conservative values like smaller government than either Newt or Mitt who seem to like “smart” big government and who both have changed their core positions fairly regularly thse past few years.
I LOL'd at that!
Don't think you'll get a whole lot of agreement there.
Goodbye La Raza Rick.
Hi MrEdd. You’re consistently anti-Perry.
Who is you candidate? Found one yet?
ABC news is busy trying to down play Perry already this AM.
They are crowing that he only has 7% of the polls in NH, a state that he is NOT even campaigning in LOL
Btw if they don’t have the hpv virus I don’t see any reason not to give the vaccine to adults.
C-SPAN:Rick Perry Rally
I was undecided for a long time, but I’m solidly in the Perry camp now. Watching that rally yesterday moved me to tears. This is clearly a true man of God who loves his family, loves our country, and has the right plan and proven track record for addressing our nation’s problems. If the GOP settles on a RINO flip-flopping wimp like Romney over Perry, then we deserve what we’re gonna get.
The last time a “moderate” won the presidency on the GOP side was Richard Nixon in 72, and that was mainly cause McGovern was so far left.I know George HW was a moderate too, but he ran as a Reagan conservative when he won in 88. It’s proven election after election that the RINO/moderate wimp always loses, yet the morons running the GOP keep shoveling us these crap candidates every election cycle, expecting us to forget all their past failures.
Bottom line-Romney winning the nomination virtually guarantees us 4 more years of Obozo, cause like McCain he wont fight, and there will be zero passion from the GOP base to fight for him. Obama will tear him to shreds just by running commercials of Romney debating himself with his numerous positions over the years-all on video. And who of us would really want to defend that? With my Dem friends already, I have to admit that “yeah you’re right, Romney’s a flip-flopper.” There’s really nothing I could say to defend the guy from that charge even if I had the inclination to do so (which of course I don’t).
I don’t care what the polls say at this point. I think this race is still very fluid and I’m sticking with Perry as long as he’s in it-and I think he’s in it for the long haul. I’m praying and fasting today for a Perry upset in IA, but even if it’s top 3 or 4, I think that should be enough to carry him forward.
BTW-thanks Cincinatus’ Wife for being such a strong advocate for Perry all these months. I’ve been reading your posts and I have to admire how you’ve stuck by him even during his very dark days. After learning more and more about the true character of this man, I now see why he inspires such loyalty from the people who know him. Our country would be blessed to have him as POTUS.
Thanks txrangerette for stating the facts.
Not welcome in DC is right, CW.
Nail, meet hammer.
This article is meant to make Perry look bad, when in fact, everything in it is the reason we support him and he’s the real deal in this race. And he is what DC desperately requires...not what it wants...so that America can stay the land of the free, the home of the brave.
This morning I see that Rupert Murdoch tells Iowans to support Santorum.
Care to weigh in on THAT one?
Your post is testament to how Rick Perry is going to win the nomination. Thank you for watching, reading and understanding. Even with a strong band of Perry supporters on FR, this has been a tough slog against a concerted effort to remove Perry from contention.
You are right. America will be truly blessed with Rick Perry as our chief executive and commander in chief.
I wonder what she thought of those Roman columns that Obama spoke before at that campaign rally in Denver during the '08 campaign.
I suppose I could do a web search and find out. But that just seems like so much work.
Thank you for expressing your Perry support so well.
You have contrasted him with Romney.
What about Perry vs the other non-Romney candidates caused you to choose Perry?
Her entire schtick is pure mockery.
What is amusing is that she makes the case for Rick Perry...the very last thing she intended.
She writes well.
