Newt Gingrich: Yes, I'd team up with Santorum to beat Romney
examiner.com ^ | January 4, 2012 | Joe Newby

Posted on 01/04/2012 10:11:00 AM PST by Berlin_Freeper

On Wednesday morning, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told radio talk show host Laura Ingraham he could "absolutely" see himself teaming up with former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum to beat Mitt Romney.

"Of course," Gingrich said. "Rick and I have a 20-year friendship. We were both rebels, we both came into this business as reformers, we both dislike deeply the degree to which the establishment sells out the American people. We both think Washington has to be changed in very fundamental ways, and we have lots of things that fit together. And the thing that’s interesting is if you take the votes, you add to that Perry and Bachmann, you begin to see the size of the conservative vote compared to Romney…if you take, you know, Santorum and Perry and Bachmann and Gingrich you get some sense of what a small minority Romney really represents.."

>>Interesting. I've never seen "BillyBoy" condoms. I've seen a lot of Trojan condoms for sale but I wouldn't assume a freeper with the screename "Trojan" was referring to the condoms instead of the Greek warriors.<<

Perhaps not, unless they frequently use "scumbag" type language like you use.

>>By contrast, "Berlin" was the headquarters of the NAZI regime in Germany. It can refer to a lot of things too.<<

And perhaps you could, if I used such language on a conservative forum akin to your "scumbag" posts to remind you of such.

>>Why do you ask? I'm not sure why my post questioning a politician's conservatism would make you question my conservatism. I won't be cutting global warming ads with Nancy Pelosi any time soon.<<

I very specifically called into question your use of "scumbag" as being conservative against Gingrich (who happens to have been positively supported by Jim Robinson).

If you are going to use "scumbag" language on a Conservative forum then I don't see how you can be surprised when you get confronted about such language.

As far as Gingrich being pictured with Pelosi... Gingrich had admitted it was the dumbest thing he has recently done. You might want to attack the man on something he defends rather than waste peoples time harping on something that Gingrich agrees with you, was wrong to do.

Now I have a question for you... I posted specifically to you, so why are you pinging these people: Clintonfatigued; fieldmarshaldj; Impy...?

I am looking at this campaign video on the Rick Perry website and about the only person he does not attack is Romney.

I’ve been telling friends for a while that the conservatives need to knock it off with the circular firing squad! This is how RINO’s get in—by letting the rest of us shoot each other in our lust for perfection.

“Santorum’s 15 mins is just about up.”

Agreed. Santorum is only at 8% in the Gallup poll today. After NH he will be back down to about 3%. Newt will take the gloves off Sat night and start jabbing Willard where it hurts. Newt with Santorum as VP would be a good ticket. They would crucify Barry in the general election.

So when is Newt dropping out and endorsing Santorum?

Maybe you should post a thread about that and then maybe you would find out?

I agree.

Like you, I was watching CNN last night where Ari Fleischer condemned Newt, and some other woman called him an angry pi-pa.

I think Newt’s inntellect is his best asset, and it works even better on offence.

Compare that to when Perry tried to confront Mitt.

Newt can, and hopefully, will tear the pretender apart.

Hopefully for a Gingrich gain, but if not it does ALL consevative candidates a favour including Santorum.

Personally, I warming to Santorum - particularly his blue collar focus on jobs and security. Which includes family values etc.

Cheers.

Gingrich/Santorum?

How come the guy huge who blew a decisive lead and came in 4th is on the top of your ticket? That’s silly.

I must concur with the Trojan man, Newt would not be a good VP choice either. The last thing you want in a VP is baggage. Let’s be honest here, he doesn’t want to be VP anyway.

If by “team up” he means he’ll spend his money to tenderize Romney then I’m all for that.

Me too. But I vascilate, because I can’t read the tea leaves. Do I coalesce too early for Santorum when it’s Newt who can kick the door in and beat Obama?. Wait too long to coalesce for NEWT, and maybe its Santorum who can knock out Romney? Is the media going to keep us sniping at one another’s candidate, Santorum and Gingrich, who are both critically cash strapped compared to Romney?

In my heart and head, I believe the North will not tolerate a religious candidate like Santorum, who does verbally
T-bow the opposition, so far. And, am I a horrible Christian for fearing such a thing that I believe would give us Obama?

I like Santorum too and he is a fresh face, young and energetic. Heck, maybe Newt is prepared to sacrifice himself for Rick’s benefit, by saying that he is going after Mitt. Usually you want your surrogates (Super PAC) doing that dirty work, so you can keep your nose clean, but who can do the job so superbly as Newt? If he roars, it is apt to hurt his numbers elsewhere, but it will help Santorum.

Color me confused. But, NO ROMNEY. (I’m not confused about that.)

cheers to you, for ‘12.

I believe you’re right about that absorption factor.

Santorum clearly won by losing by only eight! Hopefully, we can un-tie some of Romney’s backers IF we can ever convince them that we are going to keep his ceiling in the basement until we get our conservative candidate up and running!

” One on one with Santorum, Newt is the senior player. “

Newt is leading in Florida, and South Carolina IS his back yard. He should take South Carolina, and with some money, keep Florida. Romney PAC has already geared up the same successful smear operation of Iowa against NEWT, now in Florida. Newt has to have money.

Romney and Obama camps have to DREAD a Newt nomination. He has rolled them many, many times before.

Honey, Newt doesn’t need any pants at all to roll Democrats. Check out 1994 and get a clue. Newt has broken them many, many times over. Why do you think the Marxists, Liberals, Democrats, Republican Establishment and ALL beltway media despise him? He remains HELL on wheels and hasn’t even played his hand yet. They know it.

As you are aware, politics makes for strange bedfellows.

It could be that while Gingrich and Santorum overtly team-up to attack Romney... Perry covertly joins Romney by simply attacking Gingrich and Santorum while NOT attacking Romney.

Then when the dust settles and Romney is left standing and needs to unite the party, he names Perry as Vice President.

This is what I fear could happen.

I hope not!! I was hoping that Perry would drop out. Leaving Newt, Rick , Willard and Screw ball in SC!!

Dick Morris, for what it’s worth, said on Hannity’s show today and is saying on O’Reilly that Gingrich is the true competition against Romney. He thinks Romney was the big winner last night because now Newt has to deal with Santorum before he can get at Romney. Romney continues to benefit from that split. There are 8 debates in January, and Newt needs those to go straight to the people and win it himself. I am not in favor of Newt attacking Santorum. Let him speak through his skills of debate and oration.

I have confidence that the conservatives will see through Romney’s split the conservative strategy. Turnabout is fair play - we need to keep Huntsman around to take from Romney. The battle is just beginning.

Just read that Santorum raised over $1M today, so that’s great!

I just got back from donating myself.
