For years I have asked myself: how is it that the RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) -- the "elite," big-government statists -- control the Republican Party? In the 1992 election, George H.W. Bush, Reagan's successor , blew away any prayer of his re-election by reneging on his now-infamous promise, "read my lips: no new taxes." But he was a kinder, gentler conservative -- in other words, a RINO. And the country got Bill Clinton.
In 1996, the Republican RINO elite anointed the colorless Robert Dole to be the party standard-bearer. Dole was a dull speaker who had the awkward rhetorical style of talking about himself in the third person. And the country got Bill Clinton, again.
The year 2000 was when RINOs threw their conservative Republican base a curveball in the person of George W. Bush. Although a big-government statist, as are all RINOs, Bush managed to sell himself as a conservative and got the nomination. But , thank God , the country did not get Albert Gore. And four years later, thank God again, the country did not get John Kerry.

“It is their time-tested exploitation of the Vote for the Lesser of the Two Evils Principle.”
“O” is the b#*&^%d, the GOP is the midwife.
The answer is actually really simple....we allowed the progressives to take over the GOP around 100 years ago...they haven’t been challenged hard enough or long enough to wrench the power they have away.
There are only two ways to turn this around;
1. Is to take power back through a long and aggressive effort to root the progressives out of power.
2. Abandon the GOP and start over...
It’s the only way.
They have the money. Duh.
Dole's nomination removed any and all doubt I had about what the GOP was all about and there's been no reason to change my mind since.
Though you didn't mention him, you have also explained Ron Paul's popularity, especially among the youngest voters.
Love him or hate him, Ron Paul supporters don't seem him as being a rino.
Apparently, we need a third party so we can have a two party system again.
I will not vote for Romney, or any other “establishment” Republicrat, period!!!
Because the average so-called conservative rube 1.) believes that there is a dimes worth of difference between Republican and Democrat party 2.) believes everything they hear on Corporate TV and Corporate Talk Radio (especially war propaganda about scary Muslims that hate us for our freedom) 3.) just fell off the turnip truck and loves being played like a violin at the annual saps convention
This guy has really hit it out of the park. A short very insightful and succinct narrative of exactly what is happening in this country.
