Perry's problem is that he comes across as a dumb, fumble-mouthed Texan. He reminds voters of a previous dumb, fumble-mouthed Texan. That may work in Texas, but it doesn't play well in most of the rest of the country.

I agree with Perry on federalism, the Tenth Amendment, etc., and he may be a fine governor, but that perception--of his own making--is what he needs to overcome, and it may be too late.

He should have had debate coaching and sessions with Frank Luntz. He must have known his public presentation weaknesses previously and he didn’t address them.
