President Declares Independence from Congress
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 7 Jan 2012 | John Semmens

Posted on 01/07/2012 2:48:24 PM PST by John Semmens

Frustrated by his inability to get portions of his agenda passed by Congress, President Barack Obama has forged ahead making appointments and enacting programs without the Constitutionally required consent of the legislature.

The appointment of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau attracted the most attention. The appointment of Richard Griffin, Sharon Block and Terence Flynn to be on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) garnered less attention, but appears equally unconstitutional. The President also initiated a summer youths jobs program that Congress previously rejected.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) criticized the appointments and single-handed enactment of the rejected youth program as “affronts to Congress’ Constitution role as a check on excessive Executive power.”

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) pointed out that Obama’s own Department of Justice has argued before the Supreme Court that the “recess appointment authority claimed by the President does not suit these cases.”

Obama dismissed GOP complaints as “wailing in the wind. I can’t sit around and let important work languish just because some others may be opposed. The people ofAmericaelected me as their ruler and expect me to get things done. Obstructionists in Congress can’t seriously think I will be deterred by their whining If they want to try to do anything about it, well, the ball is in their court.”

McConnell admitted that he was not sanguine about Congress’ options for opposing this power grab. “Inasmuch as Congress recently approve sweeping Executive authority to detain anyone the President deems a threat, I don’t see that we have much latitude for action,” McConnell said. “None of us wants to end up in Gitmo.”

Imagine what the forum would look like if every FReeper that has a blog posted it here.

I happen to enjoy John’s Simmon’s satire.

It’s not so much satire as it is getting down to brass tacks.

Besides, every thread created is a small blog unto itself.

This should not stand. Once there was an America who wouldn’t take this abuse—but we have been wimpified —just use the race card and many Americans get all wobbly legged. Nixon was forced out over lesser things—but he was an honorable man—Obama and his crew has little or no honor. This will not end well for anyone.

First, there's nothing wrong with the "F-Bloggers" area of the forum, where John posts. You are certainly welcome to bitch about bloggers who pimp their crappy blogs in "News", I complain about them myself, and in fact did so earlier today. They belong in "Bloggers". Don't like blogs? Stay out of "Bloggers", how hard is that?

Second, unlike most bloggers, John does not excerpt -- he posts his article in its entirety. No pimping teasers or incomplete articles -- you can read his entire piece and go no further if you wish. The link to the rest of his page is for those who missed other articles.

Finally, the quality and interest level of John's pieces is high. They're short, succinct, pointed, and generally enjoyable by those of us who appreciate satire.

Not all FReepers appreciate satire. You may be one of them. If so, then you are welcome to avoid John's threads. Nothing hard about that at all -- the digest listings give his by-line.

Have a great evening!

House of Representatives = hot cup of coffee
Senate = cooling saucer
Out of control President = errant ballistic missile
Obama Regime = roving septic tank pumping truck

The GOP Congress should just go ahead and appoint a new president.

They have every bit as much authority to do so, as Obama does to unilaterally appoint the government as if some banana republic dictator.

Do it. Appoint Santorum. Move him into the Oval Office next time Obama’s on the golf course.

Change all the locks.

Then negotiate.

Yep. I’ll even grant you your point that most blogs are not worth posting on FR. I happen to think that John’s are, you don’t, we’re even.

Cheers and good evening.

And he will soon appoint himself as President for life.

Remember when Clinton was going to use Y2K to resend the election and appoint himself President?

I stand with dayglored on this one. Couldn’t have written my thoughts any better on the matter.

Personally find it easy to read “semi-news, semi-satire” posted as the link under all of John Semmens posts as well the topic/keywords clearly indicate the type of article it is. All one has to do is be aware, be alert, or have a glass navel.
