Americans cheered Gen. Patton when he urinated on the enemy

The last soldier I heard of urinating on the enemy was Gen. George S. Patton. Should the general, who, as much as any other, was responsible for defeating the Nazis, have been driven from the military for such an act? You’d think so from the hysteric response building in the mainstream and Left-leaning press to a video allegedly showing marines urinating on dead Taliban fighters. Presuming it’s authentic, such reaction is absurd.

We send these young men out to kill and maim their enemy. That means snuffing out their life, with all the heartbreak and tragedy involved. They usually do this with bullets that rip and tear; or larger projectiles like grenades, artillery shells, or air-dropped bombs which can shred or disintegrate a body. Often fire is involved. Is urinating on a dead body worse?

Yet as I write, I can feel the hope and purpose in a headline like AOL-Huffington Post’s, “Outrage over Purported Marine Video: A shocking video that allegedly shows American soldiers performing a ‘disgusting’ act sparks a US Marine Corps investigation.” It’s already tagged under “atrocities” and “war crimes.” What the headline writers are really saying is, “Oh please, please, another Mai Lai Massacre type scandal like in Vietnam. Well, we know it’s not going to be that big, but we can again throw bad light on the US military, which we basically hate and fear and are mad at for doing all the bad things they do.”

Of course they’ve gone to the Council on American-Islamic Relations for comment. As if they didn’t know they’d get a condemnation. But did they balance it with someone at war with the Taliban? Not a chance. And the statement says, “The video shows behavior…totally unbecoming of American military personnel and that would ultimately endanger other soldiers and civilians.”

It’s so predictable, petty, and blown out of proportion by a media that largely knows nothing of the battlefield and why a crude but ultimately innocuous act like this might happen. What do they expect in war? Tea and crumpets and the Marquess of Queensbury rules? War is hell. Most of those fighting it are young, usually 18 to 22. They are inexperienced. They are sent to deserts and other uninhabitable places with stinging insects, maddening heat and sanitary conditions the Left would be screaming was child abuse. They forge a bond with each other few peacetime friendships can ever hope to equal. They have to. It’s the only way to get through. And some of them, if not more, see that bonded friend killed or mutilated as only war can do it.

Did Patton piss on enemy corpses? I doubt it. Do you think the parents and grandparents in America of the 1940’s would have cheered at a photo of him doing so? Maybe a few.

Keep in mind that this is the vicious and oppressive Talaban. A group that routinely tortured gays and oppress women and genitally mutilated 1000s of girls.

I think the author put this incident into its correct perspective. Our guys are being killed in the war against the Taliban. No one yet knows whether these guys just watched some of their brothers get blown apart by the very guys they pissed on.

Even if they didn't lose any on that particular day, it's a sure bet that they lost comrades to the enemy on previous days. And, sometimes in the most brutal, barbarian ways.

I refuse to condemn them for what they did. Islamic jihadists have done much worse to the bodies of dead Americans.

I think General Patton would approve, don't you?

Genghis survived to unite the Mongolian tribes and conquer territories as far apart as Afghanistan and northern China. He left a mountain of skulls that remained for years in China.

To frighten other slaves from revolting, Crassus crucified 6,000 of Spartacus’ men along the Appian Way from Capua to Rome.

War is hell.

I say piss on them ALL dead OR alive. Compared to some of the images I have of THEIR handiwork, they should consider getting pissed on merciful.

Hear, hear. I'm sick to death of the left condemning every freaking thing our troops do in the life and death situation they're in. All of these tofu eating couch potatoes can kiss my ass.

If it were up to me, there wouldn't be much left of the M.E. right now.

I support our troops, and I support America!

As Sherman’s men pushed southeast, they systematically destroyed all manufacturing plants, agricultural infrastructure, and railroads they encountered. A common technique for wrecking the latter was heating railroad rails over fires and twisting them around trees. Known as “Sherman’s Neckties,”

BRAVO! I’m sick to amost death, of this PC crap.

You and me both, Onyx. I've been fighting a running battle with a Paulbot on Facebook all night over this incident. Naturally, he condemns what those Marines did, while I take the Patton view.

I wouldn't have cared if our guys shucked their trousers and took a dump on those dead Taliban. What they did isn't even partial payback for 9/11, Mogadishu, Ft Hood, and all the rest.

Personally, I have no problem with them pissing on these guys.

Exactly. These people are trying to kill us and our soldiers. A little bit of "in your face" is good for moral. This is a very direct, if crude, way of illustrating the better soldier won, you don't want to {expletive} with me, you don't want to {expletive} with the United States. Bravo men, bravo.

Excellent comparison. If our military gets to the point where the young men being asked to put their lives on the line in actual combat have to read Emily Post before and after the killing we no longer can have an effective fighting/killing force. Of course there seem to be many who in this Nation believe in such a situation. As a young infantry trained G.I. in WWII (I just missed the last battle by a month or so) we often expressed ourselves with a time used phrase. I felt more so because my only older brother was killed in the that last battle. I’m sure ground soldiers on both sides of deadly combat have tremendous amounts of hate built up within themselves. That is war.

Some 70,000–80,000 people, or some 30% of the population of Hiroshima were killed immediately,[69] and another 70,000 injured.[70] Over 90% of the doctors and 93% of the nurses in Hiroshima were killed or injured—most had been in the downtown area which received the greatest damage.

I wasn’t upset about troops pissing on dead Taliban that were prior, trying to kill them.

I don’t have problems either with homeowners who kick the dead corpse of a burglar or attacker they’ve dispatched.

We don't know how much of Patton's war record has been sanitized out of the history books. I know enough about him to know that he was as politically incorrect as they come, and wasn't squeamish about killing the enemy, nor of beating him down in any way imaginable. The man understood the concept of war better than anyone in our current pc-infested bureaucracy.

Did Patton have to deal with an enemy as debased and degraded as the Taliban? No, he didn't. The Nazis back in Berlin may have been monsters, but the guys he fought on the battlefield were soldiers just like him. If he'd had to fight the Taliban, he might have ordered his guys to do a whole lot worse than piss on their war dead.

When the walls finally gave in, the Macedonians poured their anger over the city defenders - 7,000 people were killed, 30,000 were sold as slaves. Alexander entered the temple of Melcart, and had his sacrifice.

Instead of building hospitals and factories for the enemy, Paton put the enemy into hospitals and blew up their factories.

The WWII generation did what ever it took to win because winning meant survival for our nation.

Here is Paton’s speaking to the third army before D Day. I don’t hear him being sensitive to the enemy.

“We’ll win this war, but we’ll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we’ve got more guts than they have; or ever will have. We’re not going to just shoot the sons-of-bitches, we’re going to rip out their living Goddamned guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks.

...I believe in the old and sound rule that an ounce of sweat will save a gallon of blood. The harder WE push, the more Germans we will kill. The more Germans we kill, the fewer of our men will be killed.”

Sir, having brought the army of the Parliament of England before this place, to reduce it to obedience, to the end that the effusion of blood may be prevented, I thought fit to summon you to deliver the same into my hands to their use. If this be refused, you will have no cause to blame me. I expect your answer and remain your servant,
—O. Cromwell
