Cold Fusion: NASA Says Nothing Useful
Forbes ^ | 1/16/2012 @ 12:29AM | Mark Gibbs

On NASA’s Glenn Research Center’s Research page the following summary was published last last year:

“ Tests conducted at NASA Glenn Research Center in 1989 and elsewhere consistently show evidence of anomalous heat during gaseous loading and unloading of deuterium into and out of bulk palladium. At one time called “cold fusion,” now called “low-energy nuclear reactions” (LENR), such effects are now published in peer-reviewed journals and are gaining attention and mainstream respectability. The instrumentation expertise of NASA GRC is applied to improve the diagnostics for investigating the anomalous heat in LENR.

I find it interesting and rather puzzling that the summary states that LENR is the new name for cold fusion (thereby implying that the two terms describe the same process) when many other people and organizations argue that these are quite different phenomena. I’d love to read a simple explanation of the difference between LENR and cold fusion that doesn’t use explanations that themselves require further, and equally complex, explanations.

Wow. That makes it sound pretty definitive … but wait! Hold hard! On his own blog, Dr, Zawodny writes (again, the highlights are mine): “There have been many attempts to twist the release of this video into NASA’s support for LENR or as proof that Rossi’s e-cat really works. Many extraordinary claims have been made in 2010. In my scientific opinion, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I find a distinct absence of the latter."

Old news. Besides this is NASA, an agency which has as its prime mission making Moslems feel better about themselves.

I do hope no one here is in the habit of accepting NASA commentary without some very critical analysis first.

They cannot be trusted.

That does not mean that the agency is totally devoid of people who might well know something, but you really have to be careful with these guys.

This applies whether it's sunspot cycles, climate, global warming/cooling, which way the wind is blowing, and maybe LENR.

Well, at least it is clear that people claiming that the video was an endorsement of Rossi were full of it.....that is all this is about.

Finally, someone who cares about their name being used to push a fraud on others.

Don’t count on it. The big dogs at NASA at the moment are all Obamabots ~ and are probably more like Debbie Wasserman-Shultz’ parents than we should feel comfortable about. ...... I don’t think you took the time to read what I typed or what this news story is linking to.

There isn’t anything to count on ... there isn’t any gray here.

From what little I have read, there might be something going
on that is “nuclear” in those reactors. First. They use
deuterium hydride(heavy water) or even tritium based
water, then they use palladium Supposedly the palladium can
hold on to the deuterium very well, and allow the deuterium
atoms to be very close together, which allows a fusion reaction
to occur at a lower temperature than normal. Since “temperature”
is an average value there might be some microscopic zones
which have high enough temps to cause such a fusion. However,
it is not the excess energy which has been measured that is
making some think, that something is going on, it is that they
are supposedly measuring some chemical byproducts of fusion.

<I did not make the above up...but I did read it in a book
entitled...”13 things that don’t make sense”.....I will not
vouch for the veracity of the concept, but it is in the
book. Judge for thineself.

Perhaps all this research on nano-this or nano-that might
allow for some atom sized reactors which could fuse hydrogen
at a lower than “normal” temp.....

Everything is an endorsement of the cold fusion water heaters. But the one most often cited by the true believers is “Rossi says”. Anything following with that magical incantation is proof positive.

The robotic factories are going to crank out millions of the domestic version of the shipping container sized “Rossi-Focardi Low Energy Nuclear Reaction Cold Fusion Low Pressure Steam Device”. Rossi says.

Whole new technology to produce these water heaters in the factories that are yet to come. Rossi says.

Maybe NASA will send a few to power the space station.

I have yet to find reason to believe in this cold fusion business, but NASA getting involved could help me make up my mind. Whatever Jame Hansen says, I’d put my money on the opposite.

True or not true, why would we believe anything NASA says? They conspired on global warming.

True or not true?

The point is this is the guy in the video saying that it is bs to say his video endorsed Rossi in any way.

Right from the horses mouth.

You can’t spin this .... BS confirmed.

That sounds a lot like cavitation to me - where the bubbles formed by pressure differential around a prop have actually been found to reach plasmonic temperatures. It could be that the deuterium is being held closely together in such a way to create vibratory motion (plenty of that in molecules) in such a way that atomic cavitation is created with the plasmonic heat needed to create the fusion.

Another alternative is that, similar to how certain proteins change the receptor shape of other molecules, the Deuterium is being shaped to be more receptive to the fusion bond by the palladium covalent bond/interaction. If this is the case then it would be possible for similar shapings to occur with other atoms dependent on their electron shells and/or ionic charge.

The point is, this video was posted on multiple pro-Rossi forums and on Free Republic as proof positive that Rossi wasn’t a scam.

This has blown up in Rossi’s supporters faces spectacularly..

I know a couple of NASA rocket scientists who are very good rocket scientists. That said, I don’t believe anything out of NASA, except for rocket science. Their science on anything else is quite suspect.

Duhhhhhhhhh, - - - was ANY Deuterium, Tritium or He3 found in increased amounts AFTER this “cold” fusion?

Come on, when we had the COLD WAR there was real FUSION and lots of REAL HEAT. So now we are supposed to have cold fusion with real war?

Maybe the transfer of heat from real fusion to cold fusion is where the heat is coming from to give us global warming?

BTW, Don’t tell Algore, as it would be an inconvenient time to film another Oscar-Winning Rumormentary.

I think that the deuterium is leaving imprints on the water, and that these imprints are what is reacting to produce the energy. At least that’s how homeopathy works. Oh, and there’s a conspiracy somewhere around here.

Well, at least it is clear that people claiming that the video was an endorsement of Rossi were full of it.....that is all this is about.
There's an interesting thread on Vortex (LINK) that shows that the 1-MW E-Cat from the October 28th dog & pony show is currently sitting in Rossi's warehouse. (Rossi now admits this part).

The interesting part is that it appears (based on photos in the new interview) to be sitting in exactly the same spot as it was on October 28th. Rossi "superfriend" Jed Rothwell stated that it was very unlikely that they would have moved it and then returned it to exactly the same spot.

Daniel Rocha went to the trouble of producing a morphing "before & after" version, adjusting for the different cameras and slightly different positions of the cameras for each picture. LINK.

So, there is now a real question about whether any customer actually took delivery of that device at all.

The story is actually kinda' old. I think we heard both sides of how the video could be viewed, or what the guy said, and he himself has commented on it elsewhere anyway.

It's kind of like the Leftwingtards who come up with the "surprise" that Newt Gingrich has been married three times, or that Mitt Romney is really rich.

No, we aren't surprised at all.

Accordingly we make our comments within the context of the greater reality and the flow of time.

Now you want me to go back and believe NASA, under Obama, can be trusted? Next you'll want me to become one of Hansen's acolytes.

BTW, you seem to have forgotten to read the reference to Debbie Wasserman Shultz current travails in her personal life.

Just pointing out that CORRUPTION, the real thing, reaches its tendrils right into the very bowels of the Democrat National Committee ~ HER PARENTS!
