Because I actually have real family experience with the issue, I can tell you every one of my “family” served in the military.
This article is bunk.

Whatever one says about the Italian/American mob they are moral giants compared to the Mexican drug cartels.

Can you please tell us about Mohammad Ali, aka Cassius Clay, in your next critique?
Please include the details of the impact of his religion on his decision about military service.

Thank You

Must disagree with some of my fellow posters. There is nothng patriotic about peddling illegal drugs, robberies, loansharking, shooting people, etc. It is unpatriotic to the max. Regardless of mlitary service.

And I’m not speaking in the abstract, grew up across the street from a social club run by a crime family.

Horse pizzle. “Socks” Lonza cooperated with the U.S government on the New York docks BEFORE getting the OK from Lucky Luciano. He did so despite being under investigation or indictment, and without asking anything in return. His son served in the Army.

Sammy “The Bull” Gravano served in the U.S Army.

Lucky Luciano helped secure the entire New York waterfront from sabotage and espionage for the U. S Navy, got Italian and Sicilian immigrants to help “fill in the map” for the invasion of Sicily, and sent word ahead to the Sicilian Mafia to help the Allies. Did he get anything out of the deal? Yes, he did. Does it mean he didn’t love America? He’s buried in Queens.

Around 1970 I had a CO who credited his Mafia connections with getting him out of driving landing craft and into WW2 MI. Same connections put him in Florida during Castro's rise and early days.

According to him Mafia/Cosa Nostra was pretty tight with OSS and later with CIA regarding Cuba.

According to me the guy was a slug with or without family ties but I had no reason to doubt him on that subject.

Of course the mafia is not patriotic, they are anti-American scum, their religion is crime, they are anti-everything good and decent, they are evil.

Of course not. Gangsters and the fans of their Hollywood productions tend to lean toward favoring themselves against our USA first, then other nations of their ethnic preferences.

Some quotes from the words of George Washington:

“Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rivalship, interest, humor or caprice?”

“Nothing is more essential, than that permanent, inveterate antipathies against particular Nations, and passionate attachments for others, should be excluded...The Nation, which indulges towards another an habitual hatred, or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest.”

The defining answer would be to the following question. Do they (any ethnic group) conduct themselves as Americans, favoring other Americans as much as their own group, or do they identify more as a foreign association of people against other Americans in politics, business, academia or other activities?

Not an Italian but part of the American Mob...Meyer Lansky suppossedly helped Lucky Luciano negotiate the deal with the US Navy to secure the docks during WW2...and also helped put weapons into Israel during the war of 1948. I guess it depends on the Mobster.....Some made Millions of ration stamps in WW2(Carlo Gambino) some avoided it.

If people are interested in the fascinating history of a politician who is a mob enabler, read Daxton Brown’s book on Harry Reid (aka Mr. Cleanface). It’s called “Harry: Money Mob And Influence”
