Rasmussen: Newt Pulling Away Nationally
Reaganite Republican ^ | January 24, 2012 | Reaganite Republican

Posted on 01/24/2012 12:05:31 PM PST by Reaganite Republican

Gingrich 35%    Romney 28    Santorum 16    Paul 10

Well, that happened quite a bit quicker than I expected- Newt out 7 points on Mittens nationally.  If you missed it, Gallup already had the Former House Speaker hypothetically in a statistical dead-heat with Obama, too... maybe he's 'electable' after all, eh.

And another thing you hear from the other side is stuff about Newt’s considerable ego and ‘megalomaniac’, etc.

Well, consider this: the ball is REALLY teed up for any who’d like to be a conservative hero of all time… think about it. The opportunity is right there, and NOW: Newt said he’s going to institute a Reagan-Laffer-Kemp agenda… right?

Pulling the country out of the steep descent of the bizarre and destructive Obama era could make Newt the man of history his ego has long craved… and he’s surely smart enough to smell the opportunity. He's actually so strident in his conservative rhetoric, you could say he's pretty much painted himself into a corner.

That shining city on a hill is a pretty powerful motivator for him to stick to his Reaganite platform… the ego is far from a negative imho, now that he’s so obviously matured: on the contrary, could drive him on to success... and this one knows just how to do it.

If Newt Gingrich has wandered in his thinking out loud, so be it- I don’t think there’s any gain for him personally in morphing to RINO in office… think about it that way. His economic agenda was enthusiastically endorsed by Art Laffer- that ought to count for something.

“If Newt wins Florida, the Rinocrat Party is going to have kittens”

Your not kidding. They are going nuts over the new Rasmussin national poll increase and still talking about South C.

—I would never have believed it. I wondered why he was wasting his money and torturing himself by running, especially in the beginning.—

I figured he was motivated by increased speaking fees or the vice-presidency. I thought he had no chance.

Then again, I’ve never seen a primary season like this. My guess is that the internet has changed everything.

I really really wish a more conservative candidate than Newt was piling up wins right now, but I do have to admit a certain competitive pleasure in seeing Willard and the blue-bloods get some schooling.

Hold on, I have heard over and over how Rasmussen was a shill for the Establishment/Romney/Media/Obama/ etc.

Scott Rasmussen is an essentially honest pollster, and I personally hold him in high regard. His questions may occasionally favor one candidate over another: "which of these options is most electable" rather than "which of these options do you personally prefer", but he doesn't do anything worse than those rather benign wording bias issues. Note: These results do not mean that it's over and Newt has won. We are VERY far from that point. All the polls mean (and Rasmussen's are done honestly) is that we now have a race with two electable candidates. Those who support Newt have to stay involved until it's over. Those who prefer Romney (i.e., RINOs) have a good chance to win by continuing to work for Romney in every state. It's all about delegates, and that is a long, hard national campaign. [And Santorum fans, he's not out of it yet, but he has to prove himself in Florida or he might as well drop out.]

Brian Williams and NBC set it up for Romney by banning applause, . . .

So what do I care that Brian Williams wants? Brian's bum is kickable. Had I been there, I would have applauded and encouraged others to do the same. My life is not ruled by some dumb newstwit who couldn't graduate from college.

My suspicion is that, in much the same way as any person can instinctively detect the difference between fine art and crap, or between a great song and crap, the people can tell the difference between a true American and a globalist, money-driven sociopath pretending to be one.

I fear that the RINO establishment will execute a scorched earth policy, where they would destroy the party's chances in the general election rather than risk losing power. Their philosophy may be "Better to reign the GOP under Obama, than serve under Newt".

Could be, that's why I said it would be very interesting. This time though, I think conservatives, tea partiers, grass roots citizen activists in general (which are more active than ever in my lifetime) good republicans, and some independents, have them over a barrel. The GOP is now nothing without them. If they go scorched earth, something more powerful might rise from the ashes, and their cushy gig is up. They won't want that either. Quite the horns of a dilemma for them this time around. My hope is that they will choose wisely and take the horn that recognizes that control by the rino establishment is over, and get on board for what needs done to save our republic, and the GOP becomes a true conservative party.

If Newt wins FL, Jeb Bush might leave the state in protest!

Is the Republican Party trying to encourage the formation of a third party, positioning itself in the middle between the socialist Democrats and the Conservatives? They are well on their way.

Wait until the major market “couch with Pelosi” ads hit the airwaves this week. We’ll see what his poll numbers are like after that. I am amazed that so many people do not remember that unforgivable act.

Gingrich/West. What a ticket!

In spite of my serious reservations about Gingrich, I'd vote for that ticket in a heartbeat. I only wish West was running for the top spot.

The Republican Party is divided between its leadership and its rank-and-file voters. They have little in common and far different agendas. We don't need a third party: we need an opposition party.

It’s not the internet. The internet has been there for four cycles. It’s the fact that the country has run off the cliff.
