Marching band - what a novel idea!
I started taking my son to high school games this year with those marching bands. Love it.
They used to. I think Grambling was at the first two, and the USMC was at one.
Thats one of the things I like about the college game. You have a band and cheerleaders and the crowd who seem to be in with the flow of the game. In the pros, it just seems more stale. All the music is from the big speakers (and for some reason everyone thinks they need to play Crazy Train at the opening kickoff). The cheerleaders are just dancers, and the fans are so far away from the action. That said, I still like the NFL for the actual football part of it.
“Maybe they’ll get ratings outside the local New Yawk - Bawston market, maybe not. Plus I can’t stand that arrogant jerk Brady, I’m sick & tired of seeing the Pats in post season, and I don’t care for New Yawk teams either, just because they have the MOST obnoxious fans on earth.”
I cannot tell you just how much i agree with all of your thoughts, especially your tom brady take. He’ cries like a baby when he gets sacked too often against a good D. Then he starts screaming at his own team mates...
Its easier to blame the world and claim victim status than it is to take an active role in life.
I wont be paying any attention to this game. I dont have a dog in this fight.
I cant devote three plus hours of free time watching a game that has little or no outcome on my life.
Plus the Pats are going to cream the Giants.
“Heres a thought.....I know its really radical and out there...
Maybe the children parents can supervise what their children watch on TV during the super bowl !
I know....I know radical concept !”
Every time I have written about this subject over the past few years, this prosaic response, along with “change the channel” comes up.
It betrays the fact that the people who write it didn’t read the column or watch the vid. That’s great - if they were not -commenting- on the topic.
If they DID read the column or watch the vid, they would apare the rest of us from having to read their comment because they would KNOW that I said that is exactly what I DO!
The POINT is that it is not always 100% full-proof. Sometimes in switching back and forth, something imappropriate slips in.
But THIS piece isn’t about free-speech! They are entitled to do whatever they want on their half-time show and they are entitled to run their private BUSINESS into the ground if they want to.
As a consumer, I HAVE A RIGHT to express my opinion about how they run their business, especially when they take what should be a safe and harmless program (morally speaking), SPECIFICALLY target children throughout the year and then violate their innocence with the kind of pornographic performances they have been featuring.
Of COURSE I’m not going to let my sone watch that - AS I SAID IN THE VIDEO. The point of this is to use my rights as a consumer in a capitalist system to speak up and hopefully, one day, make it so that my son can enjoy NFL football the way I did with my father years ago - and not have to leap for the remote every 5-10 minutes, then guess when they are cutting back to the game with clairvoyant precision.
As you can see, I hate that specious response.
“Its easier to blame the world and claim victim status than it is to take an active role in life.”
After reading your trite comment that is entirely unapplicable to what I have propounded - what comes to mind is the old Mark Twain “It’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”
Chill out bro. My comment was applicable to what Popman said. You definitely have the right to complain about it. And I have the right to make fun of whiners. And that is what we did.
If you are so afraid of switching back to the Super Bowl and letting your “sone” see something that slipped in, then just dont watch it in the first place.
LOL the paper here in Indy calls her the “aging pop star”
I remember watching that game in the basement of our fraternity house on a small black and white tv.
This year I’m right in the middle of all the hype here in Indianapolis.
The NFL picks the talent.
I’m sure JCMuskmellon would be the local choice if they had any say.
I second that motion! And here is one reason why.
I’m with you Fiji...bring back half-time bands and card displays and get rid of the yapping “experts” who for some reason feel they have to tell us what just happened.
Went to the Boise State - Air Force game in Boise...great half time show.
Very good video...I grew up wanting to be Tuba player at USC.
I think the point is to shove it in the fans’ faces because they can. And, unfortunately, there have not been enough fans burning up the phone lines to the NFL to protest this garbage.
We won’t be watching in our house.
Here is a good one too, if you like marching bands.
Check this one out. Amazing.
...should feature marching bands for their halftime shows.
Or how about when the had that idiot leftist Paul McCartney in 2002, just a few months after September 11 instead of some pro-American figure? Infuriating.
Am not a Ohio State fan FRiend, but definitely am a DrumCorpsMom :) and that was cool!
God grant us strength.
Oh... and GoGators! ; }
the had = they had
