GOP Move to Block Welfare Money from Being Spent at Strip Clubs Assailed
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 4 Feb 2012 | John Semmens

Posted on 02/05/2012 10:56:11 AM PST by John Semmens

A Republican bill that would bar welfare benefits from being spent at strip clubs, casinos, and liquor stores was assailed by Melissa Boteach, of the liberal Center for American Progress.

“This is wrong on so many levels,” Boteach claimed. “Right off, it’s an invasion of privacy. The government has no business telling people how to spend their money. These aren’t children we’re dealing with. They’re adults with adult urges and needs. They have a right to meet these needs as they see fit.”

“Besides, being poor is depressing,” Boteach added. “These people may have more than an average need for the diversions provided by these types of businesses.”

“Likewise, the businesses targeted in the bill have every right to solicit customers from all classes of society,” Boteach continued. “Patronage shouldn’t be restricted by government intervention.”

“And let’s not overlook the macroeconomic effects the bill would impose,” Boteach reminded. “The president has emphasized again and again how important it is to maintain spending if the economy is to grow. Few businesses can burn through a bankroll as rapidly as strip clubs, casinos, and liquor stores. Dampening the customer traffic at these places would be out-of-step with the President’s plan.”

If it was truly their money, she would be spot on about the “man” not interfering with how one spends it. When it is my money, however small a percentage it is, I do have something to say about it. The CFO in my house would for sure have something to say about it if I was spending “our” money at a strip club. LOL!

“their money”

Mah check. My EBT. My Obama Stash. My Government-Sponsored-Paid-For-By-Working-Folk-reparations.

These parasites don’t have enough foresight to see that when it ends, it’s going to be back to the biblical “you don’t work, you don’t eat.”

And when you have spent generations now unlearning how to earn your keep, that means you are pretty much SOL.

Your work is so close to reality as to be down right scary. here in Virginia the left is going ballistic over a measure to drug screen recipients of certain forms of welfare.

--too close to real , John-

-soon after casino gambling got to Deadwood, SD, a welfare recipient was caught trying to establish that her mother really won the $25000 on a slot machine as the win would affect her "benefits'--in the newspaper furor over that, one of the state welfare office personnel defended welfare recipients gambling--"they are entitled to have fun, too"--

These aren’t children we’re dealing with. They’re adults with adult urges and needs.

Most of them are only "adults" in the sense that they have reached a certain age. They are not adults in the sense that they take care of themselves. They are physical adults, but mental children. Being a true adult means that you take care of yourself and your family - and are RESPONSIBLE.

Good piece, my FRiend.

“The government has no business telling people how to spend their money. “

Best line of the whole article. The ‘lie’ that is mixed with the ‘truth’?

It's not "their" money

Exactly - when the Government gives our money to businesses and States, there are strings attached. The complainer may not reralize what the words "that's so wrong" mean. As far as I'm concerned, folks on welfare should be forced to give up amenities and have them give up more as they add time on the dole, until they are just subsisting and have no recreational cash. In fact, they should have to eat at communal cafeterias instead of getting cash for food.

Dampening the customer traffic at these places would be out-of-step with the President’s plan.

So obumbler's plan is to revive the economy by increasing spending at strip clubs, casinos and liquor stores =) Hope someone runs that in an ad.
