TX Redistricting Deal Rejected - NO Apr 3 Primary - Apr 17 Unlikely – Split Election Likely – TX Should Stand Up to Feds & RNC

Monday, February 6^th, was the deadline for a Texas Redistricting agreement to be made in order to have a one 2012 Primary Election in Texas on April 3^rd. There was an agreement made between Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and some of the minority groups who are plaintiffs in the Redistricting Lawsuit, but then a Federal US District Judge, Orlando Garcia, in San Antonio struck down the deal. Yep, this is the same Judge who is the brother in law of liberal Democrat State Senator Leticia Van De Putte. Van De Putte seems to have a history of unethically meddling in the affairs of courts and other departments like when she allegedly tried to influence a probation department’s decisions in order to help a family member. Orlando Garcia is also one of the judges whose radical redrawing of the Texas maps earned him a rejection and a scolding from the US Supreme Court.

Now, because this judge rejected the agreement, there will not be a unified April 3^rd Primary election, and the chances are very slim of coming up with a new agreement in time to have a unified April 17^th Primary. Right now it is most likely that Texas will have two primary elections.

Obozo's minions do not want Texas to have influence in the Republican Primary selection process.

Why was there any redistricting issues anyway? i am way behind the 8 ball on this one.

Federal Courts have been reviewing TX redistricting since the 1960’s. Some complaints were brought by LULAC and other “minority” groups about how TX legislature redrew the districts. (we gained 4 seats in the House due to Census)

A 3-judge panel redrew the districts and totally ignored the work done by the Legislature. It was appealed to the Supreme Court and they smacked down the 3-judge panel.

Last weekend they announced a compromise was agreed to. But now the Obamanista judges have rejected what was agreed on.

This is going to be very nasty.

As a result of the last “official” U.S. census it was determined that our population probably increased enough to warrant 4 more Congressional districts and that this increase was probably, more than likely, Hispanic minorities. The battle is over where the new district lines will be drawn. We also have a new voter ID bill which passed this last session which I am sure, albeit quietly, is adding fuel to the fire. Having to have two elections is estimated to increase the cost to taxpayers by about $15M.

We have a BOATLOAD of Republican delegates in Texas, almost as much as California and three times as much as Florida. My understanding is that it’s winner take all if the Primary is after April 1st. If that is the case, delaying the Texas Primary might just work out for the best...

The issue is resolving the conflict over reapportionment and redrawing the districts.

Nothing moves forward until that happens.

I have not read the rules, but my understanding was that a primary before April 1, could not be winner-take-all. But After April 1, it was up to the state party.

That would make things interesting. As I’m sure you know, I’m not too fond of Perry or the Texas Republicans (i.e., we have ourselves a governor who calls himself conservative, we give him a two thirds legislature, and yet very little gets done regarding the conservative agenda...particularly regarding illegal immigration).

So what happens here? Perry seems owned by The Establishment, yet he endorsed Newt. The Republicans in the legislature are his lapdogs, so they will do what he tells them. The state Republican Party may be more independent (i.e., Tea Party type), but we’ll have to find out there.

If Texas becomes winner take all, that one move could kill off Romney (assuming, of course, that he doesn’t win Texas). This might get interesting.

2. Texas has always been conservative. Even before it became a Republican State. (I am a lifelong Republican, but some of my ancestors were born in TX during the Republic of Texas)

3. The “Establishment” in Texas is NOT LIKE the “Establishment” in DC.

4. Like Ricks positions or not, he did solidify Republican Control of Texas. (no small feat)

5. Immigration? The problem is not immigration, but the problem is “illegal immigration”. There are some who were already U.S. citizens (from other states) who I wished had not “immigrated” to our fine state. Those who bring their Commie way here with them.

I plan on being there at the State Convention (have been before). Have made the contacts, but waiting on the dates to jell. The lawsuit mess has us at a standstill.
