Why are Pastors 'Laying Hands' on Rick Santorum in TX?
Santorum may be capturing the attention of Christians and their leaders.
WHY WERE PASTORS LAYING HANDS ON RICK SANTORUM IN TX?
(THE BLAZE) -- Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum stopped in McKinney, Texas, earlier today, where he met with evangelical faith leaders. During their time together, the pastors and congregants laid hands on the candidate and prayed for him, as can be seen in the below image: (see image at: http://content.clearchannel.com/cc-common/mlib/2135/02/2135_1328806795.jpg Pastors praying around GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum) The New York Times reports:
Santorum, a Catholic, is said to have performed very well among evangelical Christians in these three states. His conservative views on gay marriage, abortion and a multitude of other issues, make him a prime candidate for more right-leaning, socially-conservative voters. The New York Times reports:
All three states that held contests Tuesday have very conservative Republican electorates that are believed to include large numbers of the sort of evangelicals and Tea Party adherents who had flocked to Mr. Santorums candidacy in Iowa. It was a turnabout from four years ago, when Mr. Romney won in Colorado and Minnesota as the so-called conservative alternative to the man who became the Republican nominee in 2008, Senator John McCain.
So it seems Santorum may be capturing the attention of Christians and their leaders. When it comes to his meeting with pastors, some who fall outside of the Christian realm may have been confused to see Santorum standing with his head bowed surrounded by numerous pastors with outstretched hands on his shoulders.
This practice, known as the laying on of hands, is a form of worship during which numerous believers come around an individual and offer up prayers for him or her. The significance is both symbolic and literal, as the Holy Spirit and blessing are sought for the subject of the group prayer.
Below, see a CNN video that shows this: At link

The laying on of hands......and praying of all things. How horrible.
How can these pastors be so positive toward the institution that Obama loves to hate on.
Imagine that !
People who’ve read the Bible !

Because we do that down here; primarily in Charismatic/Pentecostal churches.
Paul said, John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus. On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied” (Acts 19:4-6).
“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God” (Acts 10:44-46).
To the headline: why not? They were probably praying for protection over him and guidance for him.
Imagine that praying together for someone.
It makes me unbelievably sad that the act of praying for someone while “laying on hands” has to be explained to anyone.
Even if you are outside the realm of Christianity, can you not immediately figure it out?
Really?
We do it in my Methodist church, and in the Baptist church I grew up in. But, I agree with you, it is also a very common thing in Charismatic/Pentecostal churches.
In my area here in Ohio, I can’t think of a church that doesn’t do it....including Catholic.
It is sad. I loved the picture of Newt and wife being prayed for in the same way.
“It makes me unbelievably sad that the act of praying for someone while laying on hands has to be explained to anyone.”
...most don’t know how many states there are, can”t name a country that starts with a “U” and have no idea what the Declaration of Independance is. This doesn’t surprise me in the least. History, religion and economics are what’s missing in the class room and for a reason.
Informed a “friend” yesterday about the new airline rules that allow him to put his instruments in overhead storage. I received this reply,
“What?!?! This is what’s wrong with this country! Obama and his liberal agenda along with the “lame” stream media force this kind of instrument carrying down our throats! What about the rights of the people who are infringed upon that don’t play an instrument? This will create an entitled society with people that play instruments and travel having their hand out waiting for the government to have access to every part of their traveling life. This must be stopped! Rick Santorum and the bible beaters in 2012!”
He’s gone around the bend I guess!
Santorum has been a voice for life and for life based on profound religious convictions for years and years.
I hope they keep doing this. Rick Santorum would be great president.
All the DC liberals in the GOP Establishment are having fits right about now.
As a Catholic myself, I find this beautiful. I thank these pastors for praying for and laying their hands on Rick.
WHY WERE PASTORS LAYING HANDS ON RICK SANTORUM IN TX?
Trick question? Because they don't have a robust doctrine of the two kingdoms.
Yes, Texas is much different than what many of our out-of-state detractors present.
Obozo has declared War on ALL Christians, Jews and some other faiths. It is the Duty of “We the People” to remove him in the November Election.
And after the election to identify and remove the traitors who have enabled him. Trials, convictions and punishment for those who criminally enabled him.
Not just Pentecostal churches, many other churches (Nazarene, Free Methodist, Wesleyan, Baptists, do that as well)
People don’t understand that being a Texan is a lifestyle, not just a word :) (even for us Texans in exile in Nebraska!)
We do that in our Methodist Church all the time. Primarily for healing.
Indeed, it makes me sad.
Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
It must be said that they are praying to the God of the Bible in the name of the Jesus Christ of the Bible, the King of Kings and Lord and Lords who now sits at the right hand of the Father. That Jesus is not the Jesus of the Book of Moron.
It ought to be obvious that "Obama Care" is but one salvo against faith and conscience. This man is a genuine Marxist, just as Rush had the courage to say on one of his broadcasts (few others will openly say it on the air).
Biblical Christianity and Marxism cannot blend. Liberation Theology can blend with some forms of Christendom that do not hold the Scriptures as the Final Authority. But very much, say most, of Christendom is not true Christianity, not Biblical Christianity. Marxism (a component of Liberation Theology) must oppose Christianity and all that principally has to do with God.
Obama's recent professions of Christianity are deceitful. Many even on FR think it is incorrect to judge a man's profession of faith, but that in itself, failure to walk circumspect and judge all things by the Scriptures, is not Biblicist Christianity.
We will repeat : Obama is an enemy of the Christian Faith ; he is antichrist, moved and dominated by the god and prince of this world, Satan.
This didn’t just start with Jesus. Jews in the O.T. did it too. It is an old and venerable tradition in the church.
This article was obviously written by someone totally unfamiliar with religious practices.
I did too. I hope the candidates sponsored by the Lord at all levels of political office races have this type of prayer and annointing.
I don’t know who the Lord is annointing, so I vote we pray for all of them! The other thing to consider is that imho when we pray for all our candidates, even the ones not sponsored by the Lord, it brings the Lord closer into their consciousness, being, and world, so that He can better work His will through them, whatever that may be. That way in the end we’ll be correct in ratifying the Lord’s work! :-D
(I vigorously tell the Lord whom I think He should be sponsoring, but then at the end of our conversation, I ask that only His will be done...and mean it!)
Texas is not alone.. There are even Okies who think like we do.
Where two or more are gathered in His name, so shall He!
I travelled to TX a couple of years ago to be with a cousin who was having a very serious operation - he had a tumor that was goose egg size or bigger in his head. The risk of the operation was that he could die on the table, have a ‘stroke’ from blood being cut off during the operation, etc. His ‘small’ church group, mostly the choir members & a lot of them are fierce “prayer warriors”, met on Saturday night (operation on Monday) for food, fellowship and prayer. At the very end of the evening, everyone gathered around my cousin and layed a hand on him (including myself) and we all prayed ..... All I can tell you is that I felt a SURGE of POWER up my arm .... almost like an electrical current but not that ‘tingly’ .... it was very warm .... and very powerful. I immediately felt as if someone had walked up behind me and wrapped me in a warm, comforting blanket and I had an absolute feeling of peace and security.
Long story shorter, the OR was scheduled for 6 hours minimum - the surgeon came out in 3 and told us it was all over. The tumor more or less “popped out” .... no breaking of the jaw necessary, no cutting off blood supply, no facial paralysis ... and it looked benign. When my cousin’s wife mentioned to the surgeon that people all over the world had been praying for my cousin (we have relatives in Europe & some were in Australia at the time), the surgeon gave us all the most beautiful smile and said “I could tell”.
So - prayer works. Laying on of hands is a powerful thing. I’m praying daily if not hourly for the country and for those who want to lead her out of the darkness that we’ve fallen into. God BLESS America - we need Him more than ever.
Just checking, but you're not saying he is The Antichrist, but one of the many antichrists we have been warned about?
I have been praying for godly men and women to rise up from among us to become our leaders and turn our country away from its current path. You don’t have to be a Santorum or Gingrich or even a GOP member to want to see this.
If God had chosen Palin or Perry or Bachman or Cain as His chosen for this time, I would be happy with that too, I believe all of them, to some extent, are Christians with a heart for God’s word and purpose.
As much as some of us derided Bush, I have no doubt about the man’s faith and I have no doubt that prayer was a key factor in winning the Iraq War. I want someone of faith in the White House but I also want more of those people in the House, the Senate, the state houses and the city councils.
No, I’m not looking for a theocracy. I’m looking for humble servants of both God and man that will seek His wisdom and direction so that we may better know His blessings.
Obama, as a child of the devil sure favors him, though ; I mean it DOOOO come awful close some times.
Welcome to the NEborg; just don't try to leave...:-P We can use a few more Longhorns fans.
As an Army Chaplain, my of the chaplains and the lay pastors in the many communities I served were black. Most of them were among the most conservative Christians I’ve ever met. (One Baptist pastor preached at a funeral I attended the best funeral sermon on grace that I’ve ever heard.)
Other black pastors and chaplains are among the most liberal I’ve ever met. One of the odd things about theological liberals is that they don’t believe the bible is really the word of God. I say that because they reject many of the books as authoritative, and they then define the remainder as “myth”. (A myth might teach a good moral, but it is not considered an historical account.)
In the same way they “practice” Christian things because that is the “form” that is “traditional”. I suspect that this explains Jeremiah Wright.
Many of these pastors in this photo might well have been solid, bible-believing pastors who truly do want God to overcome the decisions of the president by leading him instead to right decisions. They could have been a mixed group. They could have been a cluster of Jeremiah Wright clones.
The devil ALWAYS has a counterfeit running a parallel course to deceive and confuse, if it were possible, even the very elect.
How many of them had to file for bankruptcy after touching the economic stinkbug?
Bumpity bump bump! This better go viral. Thanks, missnry.
We do that in our Methodist Church all the time. Primarily for healing.

WONDERFUL!!!
Considering the secular, anti-Christian nature of the “media,” I’m not a bit surprised at their lack of understanding about the “laying of hands.”
None. They each got bailouts or a guaranteed zero interest payback-optional government loan shortly thereafter.
Let the media run this alongside Obama’s minister Rev. Wright preaching!
I watched “Moneyball” last night.
In one scene, one of the players told Brad Pitt’s character that he would pray for him.
Pitt’s character shrugged it off like whatever.
My wife and I agreed that saying you will pray for someone is the most complimentary thing one can say to another.
I just thought I would check with you Brother. A lot of people don't understand the distinction. BTW, I completely agree wth you.
If anyone wonders look at what is hidden inside the "contraception" controversy. They are making all religious institutions pay for abortions by including the "morning after pill" as a contraceptive.
Texas is not where you were born, but a State of Mind, Heart and Attitude.
Goes something like:
“Leave us alone to live our lives in peace and we will get along fine, if that is not satisfactory, we will deal with it.”
Acts 6:6
Acts 8:17
Acts 9:17
True, I can't think of a Christian church that DOESN'T do this. Catholics certainly use it, the "laying on of hands" is always used for ordinations and confirmations, for example. As with all other Chrisitans, it's a tradition taken from the apostles themselves when the laying of hands was used to invoke the Holy Spirit on believers. As a praticing Roman Catholic, I'm sure Rick Santorum was also familiar with this tradition and didn't need any explanation what the pastors were doing. Here's examples in the Catholic Church:

I don't see why the mainstream media felt the need to explain this in the article and treat it is as some strange, off-putting experience to the casual viewer. Of course, they also insist that only "evangelicals" have a block of socially conservative and "don't think Mormons are Christian" (as if there aren't any pro-lifers in other religious groups and the rest of us treat Mormons as mainstream Chrisitanity), so go figure. Santorum's very existance doesn't gel with the mainstream media's sterotypes about Christianity, so they've been calling him an "evangelical candidate" for President due to the fact he got a large share of votes from Evagelicals. By that logic, Obama is a "Jewish candidate" for President.
Cardinal Ratzinger autjored an essay on this Marxist infiltration of the Church in Latin America.
http://www.christendom-awake.org/pages/ratzinger/liberationtheol.htm
James Hal Cone (and others) adapted this Marxist heresy to explain the class struggle of Black America against white oppressors. It basically teaches that the white oppressor must be overthrown by any and all means, including violence, deception, and revolution. Scripture is generally interpreted (twisted) to demonstrate that the end justifies the means, and that hatred against white America is moral and necessary.
It has apparently permeated much of the ‘Black’ Church in the US.
Amen. It's a beautiful and holy practice. Having been prayed over in a number of settings, I can vouch for its spritual power and strengthening results.
Heresy! How dare you compare an Okie to a Texan...LOL!
The shame!
