That is a good essay and I applaud you for stating that it affects us all. That seems to be getting lost in a lot of the discussions about this. The way 0bama has acted, with his phony concessions to the RCC, is that 1st Amendment protections for religion only apply to those who belong to an organized religious institution.

That means that the government is selecting specific religious institutions to bestow its favors upon, according to their willingness to submit to government decrees, creating government-approved religious institutions. That is exactly what the establishment clause is meant to prohibit the government from doing IMO.

By that precedent the entire Bill of Rights can be overthrown and made into the Bill of Government-Approved Privileges. One legal precedent does lead to another.
