New Mexico has issued over 90,000 licenses to foreign nationals and state officials speculate that most of those have gone to illegal immigrants. However, it’s impossible to know for certain because license applicants aren’t asked about their immigration status. One estimate I’ve seen is that 83,000 - 88,000 are to illegal aliens.

I just got a driver’s license in Texas yesterday. I had to bring my birth certificate, social security card, automobile registration and proof of insurance, and a current driver’s license ( I had just moved from Illinois). According to the information on the Tex DOT site all the names on the documents MUST match. Obviously my birth certificate, maiden name, didn’t match the other forms of ID with my married name. My hands were shaking so hard from fright I could barely remove the papers from the envelope. If I had been illegal I probably could just go to Joe down the street , get all the papers for a few bucks and waltz into the DMV no sweat. Instead I spent 3 hours in line terrified that my papers were not in order and I wouldn’t be issued a license. This definately isn’t the country I grew up in.

PS At least my new license is valid until 2019.
