Hoyer says Fluke should sue Limbaugh over 'slut' comments
The Hill ^ | March 5, 2012 | Pete Kasperowicz

Posted on 03/05/2012 10:14:14 AM PST by Free ThinkerNY

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said over the weekend that he hopes Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke sues radio host Rush Limbaugh over comments in which he said Fluke is a "slut" and a "prostitute" for advocating for free contraception as part of her college healthcare plan.

"I'd like to see her take him to court," Hoyer told the Montgomery Advertiser in Alabama. "She is not a public figure and, for that reason, she should be able to sue for slander, libel or whatever else might be involved."

Yeah, Steny. Discovery for that case ought to be a real hoot and a holler.

And, of course, the truth is an absolute defense against libel.

Sarah Palin should sue too, she is not a public figure, she holds no political office, and Bill Maher and David Letterman both said disgusting, vile comments about her ad her daughter..so Hoyer, should the Palin family sue too?

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t recall Sarah Palin suing the 100s of Democrat operatives/media hacks that slandered her and her family four years ago. They were going after the kids. Were there any lawsuits?

“She is not a public figure” = she made herself one when she testified in front of that so-called committee and lied. Birth control pills are used MAINLY for birth control not other ailments as she claimed. Ask any reputable doctor.

Discovery is a bitch, Steny. Probably more than she cares to have known about her. And besides, most people would probably agree that $3,000 in birth control in 36 months = slut.

If she does, she better make sure she isn’t a slut. Rush can afford top legal representation. And we know good attorneys are not going to turn away the money and the limelight.

If she has anything at all out there that isn’t glowing, it would be proof that she really is a slut.

She’s spent the last decade aiming at being a public figure, a women’s rights/reproductive rights activist, including her choice of law school so she could fight its contraception policy.

I disapproved of Rush’s comments from the beginning, both for what he said and the harm he did the conservative movement, but Sandra Fluke has made herself fair game as a public figure - no private citizen’s retreat for her.

Although I don't like using words like that to describe anyone, if she were to sue it would probably lead to a legal discussion of what the word means, and how it is defined. There would likely be enough ambiguity to hamper a lawsuit.

I find it kind of interesting that lots of young women go to hip-hop concerts, when the most vile language is used frequently in hip-hop to describe women.

“She could easily win. She's a disgusting floozy, as described by the first term, but she's not a prostitute “

“prostitute is a “word”, a “term”, used to describe a behavior. ONLY one of which involves sex. Many people prostitute themselves without having sex.

“slut” might be a little more problematic, but I'd bet that an investigation of her private (now public) sex life will reveal that “slut” is apropos.

$3000 contraception in three years = expensive choice of brand name birth control pills. Says absolutely nothing about number of sexual partners, number of sexual acts, or level of commitment.

If I read and recall correctly, she acknowledged such a behavior on the radio show anonymously. If she chose to do this and then follow-up by identifying herself publicly - I don’t understand what harm Mr. Limbaugh caused her.

Should she sue, the discovery legal phase would be interesting and enlightening. Subpeona her for a list of the men’s names, collect testimony from them.... Perhaps the loophole for Ms. Fluke is the demarcation point between promiscuous, to trasy, to sluttly, etc. Not sure how many men that would take.

Ultimately, we may find that she was not being truthful afterall. She’s a lib activist. She has stated that she attended Georgetown for a specific purpose (creating an issue over not having freebie contraceptives). She is getting her 15 minutes (uh.. guess in this instance we should spcify, fame).

“$3000 contraception in three years = expensive choice of brand name birth control pills. Says absolutely nothing about number of sexual partners, number of sexual acts, or level of commitment.”

We own a pharmacy. There is no ‘choice of brand name birth control pills’ that cost $3,000 even if she shopped at a HIGH END overpriced pharmacy.

Yes, it says a lot about her sexual activities that she is more focused on getting birth control for FREE (in front of a Congressional committee no less) than focusing on her education.

The most cost-efficient method turns out to be a diaphragm, according to an analysis in U.S. News and World Report. The cup-shaped rubber device, which a woman inserts with a spermicide before intercourse, costs around $60 per year to use (not including the appointment to get it fitted).

Abstinence and fertility-awareness are free, strictly speaking in dollars and cents, as is the prophylactic of last resort: the pull-out method. However, that method is also the least effective. As many a mother has reminded her daughters and sons: All it takes is one swimmer.

Alexandria Bullock, 25, a category manager for a marketing company in Boise, Idaho, likes the flexibility of a once-a-month program. She recently started using the NuvaRing and pays $25 for the device, which is inserted monthly and deploys time-release hormones.

http://www.dailyfinance.com/2011/04/14/contraception-cost-birth-control-pills-craigslist/

******

$25 montly x 36 months = $900

So you think we should pay for the most expensive birth control pills of Fluke’s choice?

Excerpt:

emocrats and women’s groups protested when Issa, saying the topic of the hearing was religious freedom, not access to birth control or women’s rights, rejected Fluke as a witness because she was not a member of the clergy.

Instead, Issa convened an interfaith panel made up only of men. During the hearing past week, Fluke sat quietly behind the witness table, an obvious display of her refusal to be silenced.

The all-male panel focused on the president’s new mandate that employers with religious affiliations must offer health insurance plans that covered birth control. But the exclusion of the woman panelist sparked backlash from women’s groups and jokes on late-night comedy shows.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi kept the issue front and center Thursday by holding her own hearing with only one witness, Sandra Fluke/

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/02/contraception-controversy-continues-meet-witness-sandra-fluke/

Pelosi made her a public figure. If she wants to blame someone blame her.

She didn’t formally testify before congress. The house republicans refused to let her testify because she had no expertise or knowledge that had bearing on the hearing (constituionality of obamacare). The democrats set up a mock hearing situation made to look like it was a real hearing.

That she testified before congress is a lie (now she’s a lying slut).

She allowed herself to be put on national public display in a publically aired forum so she is a public figure.
