Hoyer says Fluke should sue Limbaugh over 'slut' comments
The Hill ^ | March 5, 2012 | Pete Kasperowicz

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said over the weekend that he hopes Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke sues radio host Rush Limbaugh over comments in which he said Fluke is a "slut" and a "prostitute" for advocating for free contraception as part of her college healthcare plan.

"I'd like to see her take him to court," Hoyer told the Montgomery Advertiser in Alabama. "She is not a public figure and, for that reason, she should be able to sue for slander, libel or whatever else might be involved."

This one also suits her well.

2. One who sells one’s abilities, talent, or name for an unworthy purpose.

Umm ... The DC-area Left was just giddy with pride to be "sluts" last year. They said they were "taking back" the word and making it respectable.

Gee. Times change so quickly in Hypocriteville.

If she sues then Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann and others should sue on the same day in the same court.

She’s spent the last decade aiming at being a public figure, a women’s rights/reproductive rights activist, including her choice of law school so she could fight its contraception policy.

I disapproved of Rush’s comments from the beginning, both for what he said and the harm he did the conservative movement, but Sandra Fluke has made herself fair game as a public figure - no private citizen’s retreat for her.

Although I don't like using words like that to describe anyone, if she were to sue it would probably lead to a legal discussion of what the word means, and how it is defined. There would likely be enough ambiguity to hamper a lawsuit.

I find it kind of interesting that lots of young women go to hip-hop concerts, when the most vile language is used frequently in hip-hop to describe women.

"... but she's not a prostitute - she apparently doesn't charge her (claimed) many customers directly. "

Well, she was demanding money for sex (or at least goods or services - free contraception).

“She could easily win. She's a disgusting floozy, as described by the first term, but she's not a prostitute “

“prostitute is a “word”, a “term”, used to describe a behavior. ONLY one of which involves sex. Many people prostitute themselves without having sex.

“slut” might be a little more problematic, but I'd bet that an investigation of her private (now public) sex life will reveal that “slut” is apropos.

Problem with trying to sue for slander is that truth is an absolute defense.

Making rape jokes about a 14 year old girl should have gotten his rear kicked.

I think Rush should go after Hoyer and spend a week trashing him on true issues. You know from all Hoyer’s years in congress he has plenty of ammunition.

$3000 contraception in three years = expensive choice of brand name birth control pills. Says absolutely nothing about number of sexual partners, number of sexual acts, or level of commitment.

If I read and recall correctly, she acknowledged such a behavior on the radio show anonymously. If she chose to do this and then follow-up by identifying herself publicly - I don’t understand what harm Mr. Limbaugh caused her.

Should she sue, the discovery legal phase would be interesting and enlightening. Subpeona her for a list of the men’s names, collect testimony from them.... Perhaps the loophole for Ms. Fluke is the demarcation point between promiscuous, to trasy, to sluttly, etc. Not sure how many men that would take.

Ultimately, we may find that she was not being truthful afterall. She’s a lib activist. She has stated that she attended Georgetown for a specific purpose (creating an issue over not having freebie contraceptives). She is getting her 15 minutes (uh.. guess in this instance we should spcify, fame).

I wonder if her “partners” are the least bit concerned that their names and habits may soon become public fodder? Her grades may begin to slip!

she apparently doesn't charge her (claimed) many customers directly.

That we know of...I'm thinking she does NOT want to go through discovery on this.

“$3000 contraception in three years = expensive choice of brand name birth control pills. Says absolutely nothing about number of sexual partners, number of sexual acts, or level of commitment.”

We own a pharmacy. There is no ‘choice of brand name birth control pills’ that cost $3,000 even if she shopped at a HIGH END overpriced pharmacy.

Yes, it says a lot about her sexual activities that she is more focused on getting birth control for FREE (in front of a Congressional committee no less) than focusing on her education.

“Hoyer says Fluke should sue Limbaugh over ‘slut’ comments”

If THAT one flys, then Palin is in line to score BIG against all the ugly stuff Liberals have been spouting for a long time!

Hah! Look ... “truth” is a defense to slander, and I’m not sure she’d want her “slut” status officially adjudicated.

Rush overstepped, but I doubt she wants this aired in Court.
