Investors flee Carbonite after Limbaugh announcement
The Daily Caller ^ | 3/6/12 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 03/06/2012 3:13:32 PM PST by Nachum

On Saturday, Carbonite CEO David Friend released a statement on his company’s website declaring that Carbonite had decided to “withdraw” advertising from Rush Limbaugh’s radio show in the wake of his controversial remarks involving Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke because it will “ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse”:

Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.

However, it hasn’t done much to contribute to his company’s stock price. Since the market opened on Monday through its close today, Carbonite stock (NASDAQ:CARB) has plummeted nearly 12 percent, outpacing the drop of the NASDAQ index in that same time period by nine-and-a-half points.

This is a big lesson for those in business in the internet/Facebook era. Know your customer. Just because someone emails you doesn't mean they are a customer. They should have waited until actual customers called the call center and cancelled, rather than jump the gun and assumed the complaints were soming from customers. Now they are between a rock and a hard place. Rush fans will not buy from them, and Rush haters will not buy from them, because they shouldn't have been advertising on Rush to begin with.

“As I recall, she argued for birth control, but didn’t specifically say it was for her.”

I was surprised, when I saw her picture, that she was at all worried about preventing her own pregnancy.

Liberals hurt themselves more than anyone else when they did this and they will be wailing with regret soon enough.

She probably has to pay for it and that is why she needs free contraception.

It doesn’t have anything to do with her personal need for birth control. She is an activist and this is only a tool to force the leftist agenda.

gender change surgery
abortions
morning after pill
etc

They should have remembered that people on welfare and food stamps who need free contraception and need the government to take care of them do not buy stocks. They don’t even buy many products if they aren’t supplied by the nanny state.

By the way, the list of advertisers came from here:

This was sent to me by a lefty family member.

I cancelled one of my subscriptions this morning. I was going to do the other tomorrow morning. I was thinking if I just told them I was cancelling because I no longer have the computer that maybe then they would give a refund?

What if you made up a sob story like it was your sons laptop and he was killed in a horrific moose accident (the computer was too)? Maybe they would take pity an refund? You wouldn't get to make a statement that you were dropping them because of Rush, but the end result would be the same: Carbonite loses a customer.

I never heard of Carbonite before Rush. After this, I bet I never hear of them again, either.

Anyone who dropped Rush obviously doesn’t want MY business.

If we have to pay for other’s birth control, then shouldn’t we have a say in who they have sex with? Hmmm - makes sense to me.

Proflowers dropped Rush? Well that’s ONE company I can cancel. I don’t do business with any of the others.

Thanks for the charts. Interesting to see the trends following their announcements of cutting off Rush.....

I don’t get to listen to Rush but I’d love a list of his advertisers that didn’t abandon him so I can give them my business.

I predict that as this nation polorizes more and more, businesses on average will decide there is too much public relations liability of being involved with the sponsorship of any kind of political commentary programs, and just ditch them altogether.

I hope that gets Carbonite’s attention. And all the other leftist organizations who think they don’t need us- consumers.

Of course Obama has a slush fund for em, so probably won’t make a difference.
