Rush Limbaugh has rejected an advertisers apparent attempt to reunite with his show after the company initially dropped its ads from the program following his remarks about contraception advocate Sandra Fluke.
The company, Sleep Train, calls itself the No. 1 Bedding Specialist on the West Coast, and most recognized mattress retailer in the region.
In an email to Sleep Train President Dale Carlsen (obtained by The Blaze), a representative of the show says that Limbaugh personally considered the companys request, but denied it considering its public comments following the controversy.
Thank you for your requests last week and this week to restart your voiced endorsement in local markets of The Rush Limbaugh Show, the email begins. Rush received your requests personally.
Unfortunately, your public comments were not well received by our audience, and did not accurately portray either Rush Limbaughs character or the intent of his remarks. Thus, we regret to inform you that Rush will be unable to endorse Sleep Train in the future.

My understanding is that they are a chain of retailers that originated in the Sacramento area.

Here’s what I think is Rush’s plan; Let Carbonite come back. Gladly take their money. Whether Rush’s audience buys Carbonite is beyond his control. I suspect they won’t and I also suspect Rush knows it. He can’t say that of course but it’s really a double whammy...Rush gets Carbonite’s money and his listens still don’t buy Carbonite’s products. Suckers!
I remember that.Shame the owner wasnt smart enough to realize just how bad he was about to screw up.
It’s the Premiere schedule, and this one is on for Tuesday and Thursday. It’s the spot that goes with his morning update. They renewed this schedule through early April.
BRAVO!!!
They are liars. Rush didn’t have dead air time during commercials. Daily nuts just wish...
Carbonites stock was down today, even thought the NASDAC was up. They had a slight uptick after the big sell-off, but heading down again.
Rush should make the companies issue a public statement of regret, for their misguided actions, before taking them back.
He let Carbonite come back.”
Doesn’t matter. I cancelled last week and will not reconsider. Other options available. Maybe others will learn to engage their brain before they put their mouth in gear.
Oh yeah! Try that radio station...

...or not!
I just received some blueberry diet tea. :)
I, too, ordered a 12 pack. Not too bad. I don’t really care for tea but do like blueberries.
I was hoping it was sleep train!
Yes!!!
Wow. I think Sleep Train has been with Rush since his sacramento days when they were just a small outfit advertising on KFBK.
Maybe they stay on the morning update but are nixed on the regular 3 hr show?
Thanks! You are more than just a “dubber,” you are involved in sales contracts. Didn’t catch that before.
Knee-jerk can sometimes kick oneself in the rear.
BTW, I didn’t know any “Classic Rock” stations carried the Daily Update.
As they see their opportunity to get Limbaugh slip away, they will grow ever more shrill and desperate, and the more they do the more the vast majority of people will say, "Aw, just shut-up already."
I am not involved in sales or traffic, just production and programming.
Sleep Train just got run out of town on a rail.
It’s not a classic rock station. It’s a conservative talk station. If you’re talking about my handle, WXRGina, that is a reference to the very first radio station I ever worked at as a jock back in the mid-90s—that was my nickname. Those call letters are no longer in use.
“Liberals are notoriously cheap people. They know how to protest, but do they do the majority of buying?”
I’ve heard that some of them spend over $3000 per year on
contraceptives alone.
Long time Freeper gaijin had the insoide story of how much Rush has done for Sleep train and Dale Carlsen’s fortunes over the years. Rush MADE Sleep Train.
Good for Rush. In this war for America, you don’t need fairweather friends.
Maybe Rush owns Carbonite stock!?!
It was an interesting coincidence that the day I get my six month car insurance renewal from Allstate that I get a call from my insurance man saying how much they valued us as customers (we’ve had Allstate for about 30 years and was loathe to cut them loose) and I said “yes, we’ll keep you -—for now——but what Allstate did with Rush was plain stupid.” He signed and agreed —so they are certainly feeling the heat....

Sleep Train’s departure from the program had been billed by some observers as particularly significant because the mattress retailer had been with Limbaugh show for 25 years. Yet the tone of Sleep Train’s withdrawal statement last Friday hinted it might not be pulling out for the long run.
As a diverse company, Sleep Train does not condone such negative comments directed toward any person, Sleep Train said at the time. We have currently pulled our ads with Rush Limbaugh.
Still, Washington Post blogger Erik Wemple called Sleep Train’s decision “an act worth crediting,” saying that lost ads would have more of an effect on Limbaugh than “well-crafted expressions of outrage from the usual organs.”

I kinda don’t think so, since his morning update would be targeted, too, as an extension of his show, but that’s a good point. The spot is his voice, just like all the personal endorsements, so I don’t really think they’re separate.

You have absolutely no information about his ad buys. None.
What are you even talking about?! I saw it with my own eyes! I work at one of his affiliate stations, and I dubbed his own NEW voiced spot in today! It starts next week! It IS the case! I'm sorry you do not believe what I say, but that makes no difference to the truth. Carbonite is back with him, whether you believe it, or not.
Working at an affiliate does not make you privy to his ad decisions.
Carbonite is NOT back with him.
Yes, Carbonite screwed the pooch as the old saying goes.
He should have let them go. They’ll never be trusted again.
No. That order was not “in the pipeline.” You don’t know how the ladies in our traffic department have been pulling their hair out over all the pulled ads this week. You don’t know the frenzy of the networks in mandating immediate pulling of schedules. No, you don’t—you don’t know what you’re talking about!
This is a new order. In this new one, they have extended longer than they normally do—though early April. It is brand new.
But, PLEASE don’t take my word for it. Just tune in to him next week, and then get back with me, if you still think you’re right. (what are you, with Media Matters, or something? and sooo disappointed???)
I know how it goes. Half the stations for which I’ve jocked are defunct. Sure was fun, though.
Thank you for correcting me. I understand now.
I don’t tune into Rush Limbaugh to listen to your ads.
I merely tolerate/ignore your ads, to listen to what Rush Limbaugh has to say..
I think you need to seriously rethink and/or research your actual position of importance, in the grand scheme of life.
May I suggest Douglas Adams “Hitchhiker” series to start?
“My ads”? What are you talking about?
Oh, no. I now hate Carbonite and don’t trust them. I’ve cancelled and I’m NOT going back.
Your own posts #72, 76 etc.
The extraneous crap that we, the radio listening audience, must endure, in order to hear specific radio shows that are of some entertainment value...
The order was in the pipeline? It won’t air if THEY don’t want it to. We’ll see if Rush is a sellout next week.
Out of the cowards, Sleep Train probably bothered him the most if what I’ve read is accurate. He had a huge part in helping them grow and the CEO seemed to forget that.
Too bad how sad.
Carbonite...hmmmm. Just shows that Rush is all about ‘free market’ because they are affiliated with left wing loons iirc.
Rush is a brilliant marketer. He has the guts to deny access and to make what he offers only obtainable selectively. Everybody wants what they can’t have.
At least the mattress maker had the sense to know what hurts his business and now he on the outside looking in.
That’s what bugs me most about these defections. Most of these companies were ‘made’ by Rush and his commercials, and then they listen to some wackos and drop him?
Sleep No. Bed, that computer back-up company and so many more, Rush put on the map.
Then, when they get successful, they decide to go all noble and liberal and drop him.
Good going Rush. Next up Carbonite. I noticed they were suddenly running a prime time ad on TV in our area tonight. First time I have seen one.
He let Carbonite back in?
Wow. That letter by the CEO was one of the nastiest.
They must have sweetened the pot big time. You know their stock fell precipitously on the stock market, so I guess they panicked. Little surprised though.
Seriously??
I hope he bumped their rate significantly.
“This is a big deal. ST was one of Rushs original backers.”
According to gaijin, it was Rush who MADE Sleep Train. Its owner was in desperate straits, met Rush who sold him on the idea of advertising on his show that then became popular in the SAC area, and the rest (for both) as they say is history.
I hadn’t seen this, THANK YOU for this ping...! I would have missed it.
Yeah, uh...unfortunately this HAD to be done.
Rush is suuuuper cool to his people —pays high, pays on time, verrrry loyal and sweet.
I know that even after this betrayal Rush really was very tempted to give ole’ Dale a huge mulligan.
But THAT is one of the unfortunate complications of Rush’s spectacular success; strictly speaking he’s just an observer, but he has grown so large that he’s MORE than that:
It’s like in atomic physics —to a single electron’s flight to be visible it must be seen in light. But that light in fact energizes the electron, thereby adulterating the data.
If Rush had taken Dale back, it would have empowered future boycotts and all manner of activism.
It really, really is best if Rush does EVERYTHING possible to avoid impeding any of the damage to Sleep Train that still might play out, going forward.
The sponsors need to know, and especially the smart and ever energetic **Left** needs to see that the sponsors see and dread that.
One time when Rush played football he wasn’t giving it his all, and the coach saw it: at the time the whole team was running some drill where backs were rushing, and hitting the linemen, the position Rush played. The coach wanted to teach Rush that he (the coach) wouldn’t settle for anything less than Rush’s best effort.
The coach took a back aside, whispering some instructions to him:
The whistle blew, and on the next play on the coach’s instructions the back hit Rush with such running force that it laid Rush out flat, making him see stars and reminding him of the standards he’d been neglecting.
The hit was intended to TEACH RUSH A LESSON.
He didn’t forget it, and I don’t think Rush should be the ONLY one subject to such reminders about standards.
Sorry, Dale...!
Thanks, that’s him.
IF, as some of the posts here indicate, Rush allowed carbonite back after its nasty comments, the Sleep Train situation is far more personal. It has to do with the long history between Rush and Sleep Train, and his knowing that he MADE that company (that I’d never heard of, being on the East Coast). What a betrayal. So proud of Rush !!!
Looks like the sleep train is running off the tracks.
