Limbaugh Drops Company That Suspended Ads From Show Over Fluke Remarks

Rush Limbaugh has rejected an advertiser’s apparent attempt to reunite with his show after the company initially dropped its ads from the program following his remarks about contraception advocate Sandra Fluke.

The company, Sleep Train, calls itself “the No. 1 Bedding Specialist on the West Coast, and most recognized mattress retailer in the region.”

In an email to Sleep Train President Dale Carlsen (obtained by The Blaze), a representative of the show says that Limbaugh personally considered the company’s request, but denied it considering its public comments following the controversy.

“Thank you for your requests last week and this week to restart your voiced endorsement in local markets of The Rush Limbaugh Show,” the email begins. “Rush received your requests personally.”

“Unfortunately, your public comments were not well received by our audience, and did not accurately portray either Rush Limbaugh’s character or the intent of his remarks. Thus, we regret to inform you that Rush will be unable to endorse Sleep Train in the future.

Rush is a brilliant marketer. He has the guts to deny access and to make what he offers only obtainable selectively. Everybody wants what they can’t have.

At least the mattress maker had the sense to know what hurts his business and now he on the outside looking in.

That’s what bugs me most about these defections. Most of these companies were ‘made’ by Rush and his commercials, and then they listen to some wackos and drop him?

Sleep No. Bed, that computer back-up company and so many more, Rush put on the map.

Then, when they get successful, they decide to go all noble and liberal and drop him.

Good going Rush. Next up Carbonite. I noticed they were suddenly running a prime time ad on TV in our area tonight. First time I have seen one.

He let Carbonite back in?

Wow. That letter by the CEO was one of the nastiest.

They must have sweetened the pot big time. You know their stock fell precipitously on the stock market, so I guess they panicked. Little surprised though.

He let Carbonite come back. They’re back on next week.

Seriously??
I hope he bumped their rate significantly.

“This is a big deal. ST was one of Rush’s original backers.”

According to gaijin, it was Rush who MADE Sleep Train. Its owner was in desperate straits, met Rush who sold him on the idea of advertising on his show that then became popular in the SAC area, and the rest (for both) as they say is history.

I hadn’t seen this, THANK YOU for this ping...! I would have missed it.

Yeah, uh...unfortunately this HAD to be done.

Rush is suuuuper cool to his people —pays high, pays on time, verrrry loyal and sweet.

I know that even after this betrayal Rush really was very tempted to give ole’ Dale a huge mulligan.

But THAT is one of the unfortunate complications of Rush’s spectacular success; strictly speaking he’s just an observer, but he has grown so large that he’s MORE than that:

It’s like in atomic physics —to a single electron’s flight to be visible it must be seen in light. But that light in fact energizes the electron, thereby adulterating the data.

If Rush had taken Dale back, it would have empowered future boycotts and all manner of activism.

It really, really is best if Rush does EVERYTHING possible to avoid impeding any of the damage to Sleep Train that still might play out, going forward.

The sponsors need to know, and especially the smart and ever energetic **Left** needs to see that the sponsors see and dread that.

One time when Rush played football he wasn’t giving it his all, and the coach saw it: at the time the whole team was running some drill where backs were rushing, and hitting the linemen, the position Rush played. The coach wanted to teach Rush that he (the coach) wouldn’t settle for anything less than Rush’s best effort.

The coach took a back aside, whispering some instructions to him:

The whistle blew, and on the next play on the coach’s instructions the back hit Rush with such running force that it laid Rush out flat, making him see stars and reminding him of the standards he’d been neglecting.

The hit was intended to TEACH RUSH A LESSON.

He didn’t forget it, and I don’t think Rush should be the ONLY one subject to such reminders about standards.

Sorry, Dale...!

IF, as some of the posts here indicate, Rush allowed carbonite back after its nasty comments, the Sleep Train situation is far more personal. It has to do with the long history between Rush and Sleep Train, and his knowing that he MADE that company (that I’d never heard of, being on the East Coast). What a betrayal. So proud of Rush !!!

I am part of the listening audience, too. Any ads that I dub in to air have nothing to do with me.

If you listen to commercial radio, you will “endure” ads till the cows come home.

Sleep Train is a junk shop.

We hit Carbonite hard. Their email servars were so backed up they had to call Roto-Server.

“The extraneous crap that we, the radio listening audience, must endure, in order to hear specific radio shows that are of some entertainment value...”

Do you want free condoms, too? Do you not understand that it’s the ads that pay the freight? No ads, no show, no entertainment. Really, it’s very simple.

Those knee jerk reactions will have deep financial consequences.
I wonder how many Obamanites work there.

Today I signed up for Internet and Cable service, changing from another company.

Not two minutes after I handed over my Credit Card, I received a Phone Call from Lifelock notifying me that an account was being opened in my name.

I called them to verify the legitimacy of the new account and requested to talk to a Manager to give my feedback.

After thanking the Manager for the exceptional service provided I made a point to bring up the Rush Limbaugh advertising situation.

I told her I appreciated the fact that Lifelock was not deserting the Rush Limbaugh Show over what I considered a manufactured crisis and that if not for Rush Limbaugh, I would not have been a customer for over three years now since I valued Rush's recommendation of their services.

The Manager seemed genuinely surprised and told me she would be sure my comments were elevated to the appropriate level of Management. A pleasant experience all around.

As for the Companies that deserted the show, they can pound sand. Not a penny from my cold dead hands will find its way into their revenue stream.

I had LifeLock for a couple of years and some FReepers were dissing their service. Those FReepers are FOS. Lifelock did everything I expected them to do.

Does Media Matters, Daily Kos and DU know about this.

The Carbonite guy is a Lefty, but as my Mother used to say, he knows which side his bread is buttered on.

Green is green, no matter who is handing it to you.

Carbonite must have really been hit hard by the Rush fan aftershock. I'd love to see their subscriber numbers, before and after.

We’ll have to wait and see if they are truly back with him. I believe they are, but another FReeper here says otherwise, so I could be mistaken. Time will tell.
