Grime Wave: Tide Detergent Thefts Sky Rocket; Masses Turn to Black Market For Essential Goods
SHTF Plan ^ | 3/14/12 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 03/14/2012 3:17:13 PM PDT by Kartographer

With real unemployent approaching 25% of the population, 50 million Americans on food stamps, and the prices of essential goods rising every month, it’s no surprise that black market peddlers are turning to new product offerings to make a buck.

In What Is Money When the System Collapses? we highlighted some items that would take the place of traditional currency in the event of a catastrophic financial and economic collapse – things like food, fuel, firearms and footwear.

But for many, the world as they know it has already collapsed. Unable to afford retail prices for home essentials, these people will do what they need to in order to survive, and that includes the bartering and exchange of goods similar to what will happen in a complete economic meltdown. As Brandon Smith of Alt-Market recently pointed out, when the totalitarians squeeze the masses, those rebelling against the system because they have been left with no other choice will turn to the free (black) market to make ends meet.

I thought this really tells the story of what we are approaching:

So long as the economic situation in America continues to deteriorate, these black markets will continue to expand. This is exactly what happened in crumbling economies of the East Block, where cigarettes, alcohol, food and Western goods became hot commodities in underground circles.

This, and the crime that will come with it, is an inevitable outcome of a nation that has bit off more than it can chew.

Tide is pretty bulky for an item to steal. It's not something you can just slip into your pocket or under your shirt. Other than throwing a bunch of bottles into the cart and just walking out knowing the store isn't going to give chase, how you you steal enough of it to make a living?

And you base this on?

I stick by it until you prove it fake. Mean while you may want to review some of these stories:

Why would you use it for prepping, i mean clean clothing is one of the last things that will be vital after a complete collapse.

It’s other uses may be better in terms of dealing with tweaked out bands of gangs from the innner cities and having it may make you a big ol’ target.

Better not to have it at all.

Seems a Minnesota man stole about $25,000 worth of the liquid laundry detergent from a West St. Paul Wal-Mart.

KarlInOhio, that is about what is done with cigarettes. A carton of cigarettes is pretty bulky as well, so instead of throwing a bunch of Cigs in a cart and walking out, they steal the entire truck and drive off. Think out of the box brother.

And LOT more people wash their clothes than smoke cigarettes. Also at most stores security is a hell of a lot tighter on cigarettes than laundry soap. Doesn’t and one remember the big Enfamil rings that were busted just a few years back?

No soap detergent when I was little. How well I remember mother shaving slivers from a large bar of yellow laundry soap into a big wash boiler on our wood stove. When it melted, she would bail the boiling water into our electric washing machine(a real luxury). Probably can’t buy this bar soap any more.

Well known was the best guess. You know what you get.

If you got a choice of buying cheap black market would you buy no mane brand laundry soap or Tide?

You can buy bar laundry soap in the Philippines ,, people tend to rub it into the dirty spots and then do the tub/washboard thing ...

I don't think people recognize that the collapse is now. The black markets are symptomatic. I think in a couple years people will be writing about today. They will be asking why no one was seeing it happen.

I am certain that the time is running out for prepping. We will be moving into the next stage shortly when all the patches and social band aides come undone.

For the past 13 years I have taken a measured approach to prepping. I had a plan. Sadly, I will need to accelerate my final preps now.
