JAKE TAPPER: Bill, thanks for doing this. I just wanted to make sure that as I cover this debate about appropriate language and such, I’m not excluding any points you think should be made.
BILL MAHER: I don’t really know all the “points,” but as I said on my show last Friday, I’m a pottymouth, not a misogynist.
TAPPER: So with all the criticism of Rush Limbaugh for his comments about the Georgetown Law student, conservatives claim that there’s a double standard, with President Obama, Democrats and the media far more tolerant of offensive language when wielded by liberal or progressive media figures against conservative women. Is that a fair comparison? You have certainly used offensive words to describe some politicians you don’t like.
MAHER: I’m a comedian – not just a guy who says he is, like Rush, but someone who – well, you saw me do stand-up last year in D.C. There’s a big difference between just saying you’re a comedian and going out and getting thousands of people to laugh hard for 90 minutes. And the one I’m compared to most is Carlin, who also had these kind of problems. Edgy is my brand – everyone wants that, but they say, “but never go over the line.” It’s like telling Tom Brady, ‘Throw into coverage 40 times a game every game but never throw an interception.’”
TAPPER: How do you know when you’ve gone too far?
MAHER: I let the audience be the guide. The bit I did about Palin using the word c—, one of the biggest laughs in my act, I did it all over the country, not one person ever registered disapproval....

..but it says more about Maher's audience than Maher himself.
He admits right off that he is a "pottymouth" but I would speculate that most of his "audience" do not consider themselves "pottymouths"....but in fact are worse.
They sit there and put their approval to somebody who describes his own self as a "pottymouth", degrade with vile, despicable names, a respectable woman who was elected to be Governor of Alaska....and one who has a great, long term family.
What a bunch of losers....Maher and his audience deserve each other....I don't have to listen, or watch.
A civilized society would shun a Maher or a Sharpton as not worthy of any attention.
Speaks volumes about the type of folks that make up his audience.
Just because you are egged on by other fools, it doesn't make it right.

I do my best. I canceled HBO years ago and tune to MSNBC only for nanoseconds as I surf past it searching for civilized programming.

Carlin could be brilliantly funny (the earth will survive is one!) Maher, just annoying at best. Eerily misogynistic generally.

I want him and every other lib to pull out all the stops. Condemn Christians, trash female conservatives, make comments about the mentally and physically disabled....
And I hope the MSM gives them all the air time they want to do it. Prime time, 3D, HD 1080P in 7.1 surround sound.
Because it’s not having the desired effect. It is however POing a whole bunch of people that know that their boycotts and letters to the editor will fall on deaf ears.
Instead, those people are frothing just below the surface. They WILL vote and those votes will not go to the people supporting this insanity. I also think that more boss types and business owners are seeing that in today’s market, there are just as many non libs that qualify for employment in their businesses.
Lastly, I have long believed that before things improve, they have to bottom out hard. And IMO the sooner the libs take us there, which they will do, now or later, the better. At that point, we can then have a prayer of fixing all the things they have destroyed. There is little point in thinking they will have any morality as they are devoid of it. There is no point in hoping we can ‘turn’ them to living in any way other than their Lord of the Flies wonder-utopia since they are not smart enough to walk upright without assistance.
Let them revel in their stupidity for now... Because that party just woke up a bunch of neighbors...and they are pissed.

He said people compared him to Carlin...I dunno who is that deaf/blind. I sure see no comedic resemblance.
Carlin, for all his libness, could take an issue, deconstruct it, mock it ruthlessly, and most importantly, make you see the subject through his eyes. You might still disagree with him/it, even get real miffed...but you knew why he felt the way he did by the time he was finished.
Dogbreath spews random insults and rehashes old jokes that ‘may’ have been funny once a long time ago. I see bitterness. I do not see humor, sarcastic wit or even a point to his ‘comedy stylings’.
And considering I can laugh just fine at guys like Dice and Kinnison, it’s not like I have a problem with blue humor overall.
If Jodi Miller did a stand up act and called Obama a N*gger, would it be ok because she is a comedian?
Sadly, yes, I can, and the MSM will lap that crap right up.
To me personally? Not at all. I personally dislike the word To the libs of the world, you’d need a check sheet to map out the variables on who would benefit’profit most. Then, once they determined a conservative could be hammered with something, they’d do it. If a lib could be harmed, it would be called the greatest stand-up performance of all time.
Not funny.
