On March 16th, President Obama signed a new Executive Order which expands upon a prior order issued in 1950 for Disaster Preparedness, and gives the office of the President complete control over all the resources in the United States in times of war or emergency.
The National Defense Resources Preparedness order gives the Executive Branch the power to control and allocate energy, production, transportation, food, and even water resources by decree under the auspices of national defense and national security. The order is not limited to wartime implementation, as one of the order's functions includes the command and control of resources in peacetime determinations.
Section 101. Purpose. This order delegates authorities and addresses national defense resource policies and programs under the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (the "Act").
(b) assess on an ongoing basis the capability of the domestic industrial and technological base to satisfy requirements in peacetime and times of national emergency, specifically evaluating the availability of the most critical resource and production sources, including subcontractors and suppliers, materials, skilled labor, and professional and technical personnel; - White House

To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you need only threaten to report me to the Admin if I dont add you to the list...
Private ownership, total government control.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is the definition of Fascism.
On Dec 21, 2012, Obama will have had a little over a month to stew in his humiliating, crushing and unexpected defeat at the hands of the American people.
Hell still be Commander in Chief.
Hell still have the nuclear football. Just sitting there. Staring at him. Taunting him. Daring him...
Saved....next step is poster time!
Another question. If all Presidents have these why would he wait until the 4th year of his term to put one together?
pretty much sums it up....fascism indeed.
You might want to rename your group the “NOT SO Nut-job Conspiracy Theory pinglist”.
He’s one scary evil creep.
No. I have my reasons.

Wait, I think I meant 'wry'.
In this enlightened age, Eugene Lawson had said in a radio broadcast, we have come, at last, to realize that each of of us is his brothers keeper. (p. 911)
That especially applies to the republican contenders who should be fighting for the stage to announce that they would repeal this immediately. It seems like a paraphrase of the Hugo Chavez governance plan.
Where is the outspoken libertarian?
Brett Baier carried the story tonight on Fox. However, the story was mostly a report how people are reading too much into it and that is because it was released on Friday which gave room for speculation.
...and if we are reading too much into it, then surely it's not too much to ask for a repeal.
Well you should have been screaming for a long time because this EO represents pretty much the same state of affairs that have been in force since 1933.
I think the fear is from the fact we have a Commie in the Whitehouse....that people do not TRUST to follow the Constitution.
Yes, it's worse in Obama's hands, but the EO only allows for analysis of policy, not implementation.
And we know Hot Air is no Politico Obama-butt-boy-outfit.
I just heard Mark Levin discussing it on his radio show. He is hopping mad.
I strongly suggest you read the whole page.
No, the problem is that the powers the President wields are far in excess of Constitutional permits regardless of who sits in the White House. George W. Bush was just as bad in that regard. Most folks just don't know how badly they've been had, much less for how long.
However, gaining some perspective, this is an updated rehash of EOs issued by Clinton and Bush. The most level, fair critique I've read is the one at Hot Air titled, "National Defense Resources Preparedness" executive order: Power grab or mere update?
