Santo had his “Dukakis” moment when his over sized mouth and poor speaking ability sunk into the minds of the voters.

“I could care less about the unemployment right now”, followed by days of apologies and “clarifications” (Excuses)is why Santorum should not be allowed anywhere near the White House.

What happened in the rest of the state?

Our precinct is probably not typical http://www.champaigncountyclerk.com/elections/results/2012/docs/march/PREC1505.HTM

Romney & Santorum pretty much tied with Paul & Gingrich pretty far back. However, the turnout was about 31% with the Pubbies outnumbering the Dems 11/1. Can't tell how Dems voted in the Republican primary, but I suspect it was significant since the Dems had only two minor races with more than one candidate. The Dem ballot did have a line for a write-in for president. None did so. This is not a good reflection on the intelligence of the average Dem voter.

There is one disconcerting observation to be made: The "official" number of Dem voters does not match the number of Dem ballots we handed out or that appeared on the scanning machine printout. I don't know where the "official" numbers come from and why they would not be accurate. They may be keyed in from the tape (the operator changing the number) or read in from the scanner's memory card. The latter is subject to electronic processing "errors".

Somehow for the November election, we need to have all the Republican precinct election workers record the numbers of voters and the presidential election results at the end of the day before the results are turned in and compare those numbers to the next day's reported results.

If Willard gets the nomination I’m not worried about him winning the election I’m worried about what will come after that. Basically no real change and the train is still racing down the tracks to disaster.

I think that the conservatives have to think through the right strategy if they hope to stop Romney.

Ain't that the truth.

Your ideas are confusing as some of these others. Politico (very trustworthy, ok) ..now Newt is in the tank for Romney hahaha..I’ve heard it all now..Newt Gingrich is a leader. The only reason Santos is not winning a majority is because 1) the historical low voter turnout in many states and 2) More conservatives do not want him and his ideas of a overreaching government intrusion in power. 3) Newt stayed out of Il-and Rick still could not shut down Mitt. When will his steam roll over Romney? Or is the plan to shut Newt all of the way down. Look at the Christian Right; what they have caused and they bicker back n forth. Not about saving the country, no. It is all about personal ideas of how a man wants the country to be. Also for the country to not be familiar that he was a part of the Bush regime who failed the country terribly. We gave them our trust and they ran the financial system aground. Those were kicked out, to where we got Obama in. Rick was part of the spending and increasing government- you think a conservative like me will walk the block for him and ring door bells. My country’s business and security comes first, my faith is my business (not Ricks) Those ministers should know the nation’s security and country’s finances come first.

Are they so blinded that are on some kind of crusade. They need to re think the priorities. Someone with some weight needs to reason with them. Romney passed laws for abortions and gave his state the gay marriage agenda into law. More people are moving to Romney’s column, don’t they see this.

Rick has caused us to not have a debate on issues for reform-we have social issues running to the ballot box which we get us creamed in the fall election. No debate on getting off of foreign oil-no talk of getting out of these hostile countries who are killing our soldiers-no tax reform discussions- no 15 % flat tax which would make businesses grow-nothing-no talk about revamp VA for our service people and ending the 57 layers of government. What is your candidate carrying the banner for- worrying about porn and if Rick not knowing how to explain what he means of many issues. Who is the most experienced / Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum. Everyone knows that Newt is the smart guy who has solutions. Those of us who admire Newt, do see what America needs and isn’t those amateurs. We are trying to direct your confusion. Those ministers got a alert call last night as they did in MI OH, now IL-Rick Santorum cannot beat Romney one on one.

That's neat.

I think there's a lot of fraud going on in this primary
and media manipulated. I wish our side could outsmart them.

I am sure glad they aren’t depending on you to do the outsmarting. Or maybe they already have. LOL

Keep wishin’, you are going to need it.

“You think the Christian Right is EVER going to get behind this man? The guy who takes the stage with his adoring wife who not all that long ago was his adulterous mistress? You think guys like Tony Perkins or Gary Bauer will EVER sanction that guy? If you do you are out of your mind.”

Well the Christian Right better get off there high horse and figure out how Newt and Santorum can work together. There campaigns are broke an at an Impasse and neither is going anywhere in this election without the other.

That is unless the Christian rather have four more years of Obamma. And since when did the Christian Right become without sin. We are forgiven of our sins just like Newt. It is not my job to judge Newt nor is it the Christian Right job to judge Newt.

The Christian Right better go back and read. Mat 7:22-23

From the post I am reading on this thread. It sounds like they are getting on very dangerous ground.

I subscribe to the dictum that we should support the most consrevative candidate who is electable.

Gingrich has the advantage of being out of power during the Bush, Jr., era, so he cannot be blamed for the problems of that time. Santorum was in the Senate and was no economic conservative, being an exemplar of "compassionate conservatism". Your criticism of Santorum is correct.

Gingrich may be a stronger contender against Obama, but with the exception of Georgia and neighboring South Carolina, he has been unsuccessful against Romney. He is the most Southern, living in Georgia since college days, of the four candidates, yet he is losing the Southern and border states (southern Illinois is far more like Kentucky than it is like Chicagoland) to a Yankee of Italian ancestry. He could not beat Romney and his seemingly bottomless money supply, in Florida, just as Romney moneybombed Santorum down in Ohio, Michigan, and now Illinois.

Thirty years ago, the switch of Southern and border state evangelical Protestants form the Democrats to the Republicans facilitated Reagan's triumph over Carter. By 1994, this switch allowed the GOP to take control of the House for the first time since 1954. By 2010, most Southern governorships and legislatures were under Republican control. Had the evangelicals not switched over, America would effectively be a one party (Democrat) country. Their lack of enthusiasm for McCain in 2008 probably caused Obama to carry Virginia, North Carolina, and maybe Florida and Ohio as well. This is Romney's Achilles heel as well, as he has only won two Southern states: Virginia, where only Ron Paul opposed him, and Florida, where the metro areas (Jacksonville and Pensacola excepted) are dominated by Northerners and Latin Americans.

Santorum is a flawed candidate in a number of respects, his most notable weakness being his proclivity to use Federal power to enforce his social agenda. However, you must remember that the MSM has played up Santorum's very conservative social positions, taken before he became a contender for the Presidency. They are rehearsing the same tactics that were used on Sarah Palin four years ago, and on Newt Gingrich in the 1990s. All four candidates have made unwise and inopportune statements in the past. I'm sure Gingrich regrets his flirtation with man-made global warming, for example.

However, Santorum is sound on national defense and is certainly better than Obama on economic and fiscal matters. Paul Ryan and others will hold his feet to the fire on tax and spending matters. Besides, even Clinton got religion on fiscal responsibility under a Republican controlled Congress.
