Santorum Suggests Obama Beats an *Etch A Sketch* Candidate

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Rick Santorum played off of the Mitt Romney campaign’s Etch A Sketch gaffe today when he told an audience that the country might be better off with President Obama than with a candidate who will shift his positions with ease and who he believes is not very different from the president.

“You win by giving people a choice. You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s just going to be a little different than the person in there. If you’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future,” Santorum told a crowd at USAA.

During a press avail following the event, Santorum, who carried the Etch A Sketch during his speech, argued that Romney knows he can’t win in the general election.

“All the things that allow Romney to win the primary are unavailable to him to win the general and that’s why you see these Etch A Sketch comments because he knows he can’t win,” said Santorum.

As he spoke to a crowd which included people standing on other levels peering over the ledge to hear him, Santorum stressed the weight the Texas primary will carry on the overall race, saying the race will continue through Texas, whose large delegate count of 155 offers him the “opportunity to reset this race.”

“if anyone thinks Rick would actually vote for Obama over Mitt then they are way to used to hearing only what they want to hear...”

or they were hearing what he said. Either one.

If you fail to see any difference between Obama and Romney, let me suggest some scenarios:

1) Will Romney reject Republican legislation? And, if he does how will he get any of his own initiatives passed?

2) If Romney goes with the Rats on legislation, and Congress is majority Republican, how will he even get his appointees nominated?

3) Won’t Obama stifle all Republican initiatives?

“Here’s the real danger....We, as Conservatives, actually represent a plurality of voters (according to polls). I believe that we actually represent a majority of the population.”

You’re right. So why blow it up now. Rick Santorum has a bit of a rhino history, Newt has shown support for global warming and Romney made clear he will repeal obama care. They all suck in my opinion but the 3 of them trashing each other and getting us in a fight amongst are selves is idiotic at best.

The only guy running that I truly think would fix the financial crisis is Ron Paul. We know he’s not going to get it and if he did he’d wreck some more foreign policy, not that the potus has left much intact. Some times in life we don’t get it all and hopefully the scotus fixes healthcare before the general. We can disagree without resorting to my way or nothing. We can even force a brokered convention without all the dust up. I think my point of rhino shaped shadows between all 3 (Mitt, Rick and Newt) is lost in this discussion.

Unbundle your snuggies for a minute and re-read what you posted and what I asked of you in return. Go ahead and cast your lot with Romney. It's your vote, have at it. You can be the new poster boy for "good little conservatives getting in line" for all I care. But I prefer the enemy on the line in front of me, not at my back. If that makes me a "far right thinker" you enjoy throwing a barb at, so be it. I think allowing a Benedict Arnold at my back pocket divides the ranks more than having a known target in front that all Tea Party types can focus energy upon. You let Romney in as POTUS and he'll do the same job tearing apart the nation as Obama, just with less competence and under the republican banner.

With Mitt America is in trouble, but might survive. With Obama, America is finished.

If you see both of those as equal, shame on you. You are part of the problem.

If you have continually voted for the establishment choice, encouraging them in the process to put up even more liberal candidates each time, knowing that people like you will blindly vote for anyone with an "R" after their name, then YOU are part of the problem and have brought us to this point (and will lead us to far worse).

Realizing the faults of both Santorum and Gingrich, either of them are quite capable of representing Conservatism. Romney is not.

“If you fail to see any difference between Obama and Romney, let me suggest some scenarios:”

You are talking to the wrong person. I never suggested anything of the kind. In fact, just the opposite.

I railed against EACH establishment choice. Bob Dole, Juan McInsane, Mitt Romney.

But I still held my nose and voted for them, because the alternative was unthinkable. Those that stayed home last time are the same idiots who gave us Obama in the first place. Were you one of them?

Just go on record and say it, you would rather stand on your principles and see America destroyed than vote for another establishment RINO.

You are the problem.

I don’t like RINOs either, but I am not an idiot.

Let me elaborate further. I DETEST Mitt Romney. I think he is a malicious, egocentric flip-flopping phony.

His adviser outright said he is faking everyone out.

I CAN’T STAND him, and do not trust him one bit. But he is not as bad as Obama.

I still hope ANYBODY but Romney gets the nomination. But no WAY am I going to sit home and allow Obama to destroy my country for four more years when maybe, just maybe, I could have done something.

We don’t have a lot of good options here.

But are you the the slow-boiled frog that does not yet recognize gradualism? We all are to some degree. But many have recognized the condition and see the end game for what it is. I prefer to crank up the heat now so my fellow frogs are startled awake than to let them slowly die off. Pity that Obama's election wasn't the wake up call we thought it was.

“But are you the the slow-boiled frog that does not yet recognize gradualism? “

Whoever you are, you have me pegged wrong. Nothing you have said applies to anything I have EVER said or ever even thought. I am certain you are addressing the wrong person.

So unless you want to address something I have specifically said, and cut out the mumbo-jumbo, let’s quit wasting our time here, okay?

I voted for the Republican ticket in 2008—mostly for the Palin part of it. I wasn’t excited about it, but I voted, I had the obligatory yard sign and bumper sticker.

The northeastern Republican cabal has laughed their rear ends off over the years, knowing that conservatives “have no place else to go” and “will vote for anybody who has an ‘R’ after their name”. That is why we may end up with this choice today—between two liberals.

Let’s suppose that Romney does win the nomination and the election. Do you really think that will end the leftward drift? There are many in positions of influence in the Party that want someone even more liberal than Romney....and they will get him because of people like you.

Both Romney and Obama are driving handbaskets to Hell, just different models and different speeds. I hope that your seat is comfortable, because your approach has brought us to this point, and guarantees that we will all eventually reach the cesspool at the bottom.

I don’t care about “Republican” legislation. I am no longer a Republican. The Republicans as a group are not much better than the Democrats. I care about CONSERVATIVE legislation. Very little of that comes out of the Republicans. I’m certainly not going to vote so that the president is one of their RINO cronies and they all get everything they want. At least they fight against a Democrat.

Then you really don’t care about US politics at this time. Which is fine as a choice, and, hopefully, you garner more support locally.

I don't have you pegged at all, hence my question. If the article on gradualism is a waste of your time, please do skip it. It adds credence to the position many of us hold regarding Romney: a waste of time that ought be skipped.
