Ready for Mandatory Gun Insurance?

Government to Force Firearms Owners to Buy Gun Insurance

© gps333@charter.net

In a nutshell, here is the new law:

“Every owner of a firearm must, within ten days of taking possession of such firearm, obtain an insurance policy from a state-approved insurance provider, that provides a minimum of $ 250,000 liability and loss coverage per firearm, with a minimum total rider of $ 5,000,000, regardless of the number of firearms possessed. Each 100 rounds of ammunition will require a minimum coverage of $5,000. Failure to secure such insurance coverage will be punishable by a prison sentence of not less than one year and/or a fine of not less than $5,000.”

Sound farfetched? A Massachusetts liberal representative has already introduced a similar bill in the State House (http://fleming-hayes.com/2011/06/mandate-ma-lawmakers-consider-gun-insurance-2/). Would such a law make it into the federal statutes?

If ObamaCare is ruled constitutional, bet on it. If the federal government can force you to buy health insurance, it can certainly force you to buy other insurance “for the common good.” The immortal liberal lie that thousands of children are killed accidentally by firearms every year would be trotted-out again, and all it would take is a return of House control to the Democrats to make such a law happen.

Not worried about ObamaCare? You’d better be.

All of my Class III weapons and 500k rounds of ammo fell into the ocean, last year, in a boating accident. So, I’m okay...

I think they would be a little sneakier than this. They will probably require homeowner insurance companies to add this to your policy if you answer you have arms in your home.

Well, you are absolutely right about the second part at least, I would never "bring up such idiocy to LEO" because I would refuse to answer any of his/her questions in the first place.

I have heard that a few citizens might own a firearm and I also heard of those few some own them as an insurance policy. I’m thinking that they might be exempt.

And no, I wouldn’t bring it up with a LEO. With a couple of exceptions, they already know what I have, via the voluminous FFL paperwork and Tax Stamps etc.

No way possible it would happen this way.

I am sure you would have to have proof of insurance prior to your gun leaving the shop or FFL. 10 days grace period? No way.

Gun owners are the largest cohesive group in the USA. They have raised havoc over some people getting reelected. Can you imagine the problems they can raise for the government? Think of the Frivolous law suits aimed at Sarah Palin and multiply by maybe one million and aim at all government politicians and many employees.

OK, let’s take it to the next step. What are you going to tell the judge? Nothing, I guess.

Then, we move on to the trial. Unless you bought all your guns “off record” you will have a helluva problem, Mac. Perjury is your last resort, I suppose, and we know where that leads.

You should know that claiming to have all of your guns lost in a tragic accident is a long time running joke on FR.

Regardless why would I mention this to a “LEO”, its no business of his unless he’s investigating something, in which case I sure an hell ain’t gonna tell him.

As far as I know every rental or home insurance policy I have ever had excluded firearms. You had to add a rider for them.

Of course that was for the property value and wouldn’t include the ammunition.

Unless you bought all your guns “off record” Actually if you have read any of my posts for the last ten years, I explain how I decide to "opt out" of the nation gun laws back around the time the Brady Bill was rammed down are throats. Since that day, I have purchased all my guns from individuals, cash only, no paper trail. So yes all my guns are "off record". And yes, if I would be more than willing to commit perjury if asked straight out in a court of law if I own a gun, because it is no more the judges business then any other government toadie and he/she wouldn't be dragging me into court and demanding I answer under oath if they had any other means to find out the answer...

States already do that with respect to lots of things. The only catch here is that it implicates the 2d Amendment, but the SCOTUS has indicated that it’s willing to accept a lot of restrictions on the RKBA.

Why? Just because a cop asks a question doesn’t mean you have to answer it. Not answering is not perjury.

Buying a firearm “off the record” is not immoral or a crime.

But tell us where perjury leads, since a whole dept full of cops was just busted for lying on their timesheets. Thats theft among other things.

No, I do not recall reading any of your posts for the last ten years. I may have but I don’t remember (I am, after all, an OldPossum and memories tend to slip nowadays).

It would be most interesting to see how either of us would react if placed in a courtroom situation and presented with telling the truth or perjurying ourselves over a matter of Constitutional law. I would hope that both of us would choose the patriot’s position and lie to the bastards.

I agree with your position since I think the Second Amendment means exactly what it says. But surely you know that all cultural/societal events are not going our way as the “progressives” have taken over the education system and are indoctrinating the children into their way of thinking, and it’s just a matter of time before we have to confront this sea change. It’s at that point that all of us has to put up or shut up. We either save the American way of life or give it up. I know what I will do.

And all this over that silly “lost at sea” crap.

I have been a member of FR since 2001, and yes, of course, I know that it is a long-running joke. My point--and I do have one--is that it is an unclever, unfunny, non-sensical joke. It never made sense from the get-go, to wit, why would anyone transport his gun collection in a frigging boat? Jokes have to have some basis in fact that establishes what you're going to make fun of. And this one fails miserably in that regard.

And it has been repeated ad nauseum for years.

Have I made myself clear?

I just had my Cannon T-54 Dbl Door Gunsafe, extensive weapons, accessories, ammo appraised for *replacement value* on Monday by an FFL, and I was stunned. I sent a copy of the written appraisal into my ins co for an estimate on a rider, since the 2½-ton safe/contents are now at my home and weren't covered by by the original homeowner's policy. I'll be sitting down when I get their quote.

Not true. I would call your attention to the antics of the black folks throughout the country in response to the killing of a (possible) thug. Don't see anyone getting worked up when the police or the ATF kill a gun owner or an "arsenal" is seized. Don't see whites getting all full of phony outrage when a black kills white people (happens all the time - the killing that is)

I don't know who you are, what your background is, your political persuasion, nothing...

But I will assure you, and you can take it to the bank, that there are a great many patriots on this forum that would make that statement to any damned LEO that has the stupidity to ask about the whereabouts of weapons, when said LEO is preparing to seize or has been told by his government goon leaders to ascertain the whereabouts of said weapons.

I know damn well I would...I would lie to any snooping POS that started inquiring about my weapons.

LEO or not...I would even lie to the damned president about it.

I would lie to you about it.

And, by the way, all my weapons fell off my boat while I was fishing last year.

Sorry if I made it sound that way, after all it's not like I'm the divine voice of Conservatism, whose writings must be committed to memory by all. People don't pay much attention to my ramblings anyway (and might be smart not to).

But I think on the gun issues we are pretty much in agreement, as for the guns "falling off the boat" thing. That joke has been around longer than Freerepublic. I don't think anybody would seriously say that. It's has just kind of become shorthand for "lie". So when one of us says that if the day ever comes that we are told by the government to register or turn in our guns we are going to say they "fell off the boat". We really mean that we are going to lie and claim our guns were stolen, sold, lost, destroyed, got damaged and were thrown away, whatever, as long as it's believable (unlike the boat thing) and the authorities would have a difficult if not impossible task of proving otherwise.

My husband and I just finished taking the Concealed Carry class required for licensing in Wisconsin. Our intructor advised that each of us in the class be sure to get a $1 million umbrella policy and to discuss whether it covers our guns. As for himself, he just upped his insurance to $3 million because he also carries the liability of all the students he has instructed.

He also suggested that we have the names and phone numbers of 2 attorneys in our wallets and programmed into our cell phones that we had previously discussed gun issues with and who had agreed to defend us, if we should ever have to use our weapons.

He guaranteed that if we should ever have to fire our guns at a person that it would be a $1 million dollar issue before all was said and done.

Seems like good advice to me.

BTW, It has nothing to do with the boat.

I still laugh when Hommer Simpson says, "Doh!". Call me a simpleton. But the reason it stays funny for me starts with a newcommer to FR some time back that stated, "With all the reckless boating enthusiasts here at FR you'd think there would be a ping list." Another person once asked, "Why do you idiots all take your guns on boating trips? It's not like you can fish with them?" I replied simply, "What else you gonna use for an anchor?"

I still laugh at that and the occassional question about why everyone claims to have lost their guns in a boating accident.

Sorry, Possum. Call us immature young punks. But I still get at least a smirk and try to be the first one on the forum to post about my boating accident.

But I don't laugh at farts.

Of course, I know that the analogy is shorthand for resistance. I just think it's a stupid way of expressing the issue.

Attack ALL gun owners and see what happens. 15 million requests for background checks for gun purchases were processed this year. 140,000 checks was the record for one day. I don't know how many gun owners there are in the USA but it must be between 100-200 MILLION. Let Boama attack them and see what happens.
