I can only think of one case when a woman got pregnant despite practicing abstinence. That’s a pretty high success rate.

Most religions in most human cultures emphasize self control that should promote social good. Sexual restraint, control of anger and lashing out/killing, respect of property, control feelings to covet and murder are some of the common themes. Combine it with enlightenment (ability to apply same generous respect to others who do not share your beliefs) one can create stable and peaceful societies. Cultural values do matter. That is why liberalism is failing.
I always wonder what liberalism would be like if it had strong cultural values or conservatism would be like if it had weak cultural values?
