Arby's Is Messing with the Wrong Slice of America
The Atlantic Wire ^ | April 6, 2012 | John Hudson

On Wednesday, Arby's inflamed the conservative blogosphere with the announcement on Twitter that it will no longer advertise on Rush Limbaugh's show. Big mistake. The statement probably would've blown over, like all the rest of them, but Arby's moves following the announcement have awakened a sleeping giant. Shortly after its statement, the Arby's Twitter account went on a rampage blocking users who disagreed with the franchise, as Twitchy reported:

I went by last Monday and got a couple of simple roast beef sandwiches. $8 plus change.

I can buy a ribeye roast for $40 and get more than 15-20 mega sandwiches no problem.

I guess ‘RB’ now stands for “Reveres Barack”...

Wow, their corporate executives are really on the ball.

That particular controversy was over about two weeks ago, and had they just continued to not say anything, nobody would have noticed. But by chiming in *now*, they get nothing out of the deal but abuse.

Their parent company is Roark Capital Group, and weirdly as all heck, is named for Howard Roark, the fictional protagonist in Ayn Rand’s novel, The Fountainhead.

Its current managing partner is Neal Aronson. He has given only six thousand to the Republicans, while supporting both John McCain and now Mitt Romney.

Arby’s is bending over for the vegans.

What irony.

There was a small chain where I used to live called Lion’s Choice. It was freshly roasted beef piled high on freshly baked buns, all prepared on site. The best roast beef sandwiches ever. When I saw a sign for a Lion’s Choice in my new town I was overjoyed, but when it finally opened and I went there it was no longer the same. Same exact processed crap as Arby’s. They lasted six months.

No more welcome to Moe’s for me.

Monday was Moe-Monday - $5 for a burrito. Come to think of it, we have Moe’s come to our office once a week. I think I will drive some of their business away in a very nonchalant way. I will probably buy some of my employees’ lunch just so that they won’t buy their carp.

I read in another post that Rush said Arby’s never advertised on his show. Either way, I’ll miss the Jamocha shakes.

My husband quit eating them years ago when he realized he had an MSG sensitivity and that their sandwiches made him sick.

That may be why they make me sick, too.

Plus, they just don't taste right.

The company that owns Arby’s (Roark Capital) is run by Romneybots. And of course they hate conservatives.

I miss the roast beef sandwich from the old Hardees (back before it became Carl’s Jr. “East”)

Arby’s was owned by Wendy’s for a few years. Wendy’s finally dumped them last year. Wendy’s stock is finally recovering, and is actually a pretty good buy right now.

I had a roast beef & cheese, once. Tasted like cardboard, IINM. That was my last time there. Guess I’ll miss the chance at one of those Jamocha shakes you like, also. Darn.

I can happily say I don’t contribute to any of those companies. I haven’t eaten Arby’s anything since the 1970’s and Cinnabon since the ‘80s. I make a killer roast beef/french dip sandwich at home... as well as cinnamon rolls. Who needs them?

I had a roast beef sandwich there when I was in college - early ‘70s I think. Tasted good. Tried them again in the ‘80s. HORRIBLE. Never had any inkling to go there again. I guess when you are in college you can eat anything.

Don’t care for their roast beef, but used to love the chicken salad sandwiches. The deli style offerings were/are pretty good, but guess I will pass for now. :)
