On "Tax Day"

How’s your tax return? A lot of hope, no change?

Did you over-pay and get back money – without interest – you could have been using all year long? Did you underpay and now have to scramble to make a payment — or face fines and interest that the IRS sure won’t pay you if the tables were turned?

Or are you one of the lucky few who had to make “quarterly estimated tax payments” in addition to your tax return? Yes, that’s right: if you look like you might owe more taxes than most people, the IRS forces you to pay up front, every 3 months. Still without any promise of interest if you over-pay.

How is anything mentioned in that article going to change after you vote one way or another? The rate may go up or down but neither party is advocating any change in the tax system. Sure, you get a few people talking about things like the Fair Tax or 9-9-9 but those are, for the most part, pipe dreams. Both parties use the tax system to curry favor and maintain power, so all we get to talk about is how we get screwed not if.

In case you didn’t notice -— and obviously you didn’t understand if you did -— they’re called the “Bush tax cuts.”

The Republicans cut the rates under Reagan and got rid of a lot of the complications and tax shelters. The Bush tax cuts included a moratorium on the death tax, and a cut across the board.

Despite the media big lies, the Republicans never had the control that the Dems have had for the last 3-5 years. Remember “jumpin’ Jeffords?” Remember Arlen Specter, Olivia Dukakis, and a whole host of NE RINOs in the Senate?

We need to cut spending. But in the meantime, the “Bush tax cuts” must stand and should be increased, not weakened.

I t would matter not a whit if the POTUS and congress were dim, GOP, green, polka-dotted bikini, rock lobster or any other party.

It is a self-winding mechanism that more resembles the Borg. Resistance is futile. “Customer friendly changes” are futile. Administrative changes come and go — it is all futile.

The IRS is designed to get your money, and in doing so has all but infinite powers to do so with all but infinite powers of escaping responsibility for what mortals may deem as errors.

Hot ticket: don’t get on their bad side. I am getting back about $7K, which means I playing the game wrong, but I am in a strange situation most people don’t encounter.

Up until the last few years I felt pretty good that I owed the IRS a few hundred (the prior 10+ years) or they owed me a few hundred — THAT is how you play the game.

Gave up, huh?

I’d rather be holding the R’s to their promises instead of watching the D’s keep theirs.

Truthfully, I don't trust either party. They are in the game for their own benefit.

In case you didn’t notice -— and obviously you didn’t understand if you did -— The IRS operates exactly the same way whether it be the Bush tax cuts or the Obama tax increases.
