eXiled editor Yasha Levine still has a host of legal woes hanging over his head from being arrested while covering last Novembers LAPD crackdown of OccupyLA. Turns out, those are the least of his worries at the moment. During his two-day stay in Los Angeles Metro Jail, Levine says he contracted a wicked case of scabies.
Until a few days ago, I thought my scabies was just a gnarly poison oak rash that I had picked up in the Santa Monica mountains after losing the trail and having to cut through the overgrown backyards of multimillion dollar mansions. For weeks the rash kept getting worse and worse, and I finally went to a doctor to get some relief. But it turned out that poison oak was the least of my worries.
You have scabies, said the doc, sucking in his breath through his teeth and shaking his head. It took him no more than 30 seconds to diagnose my condition. The track marks are a dead giveaway, he said, and pointed out a couple of elongated welts about a half-inch long creeping up the side of my right ring finger. These tracks marks were actually burrows made by mother-parasites as they tunneled right below the surface of my skin and laid eggs in the process. I had dozens of similar track marks of all shapes and sizes on both hands. As I stared at my hands in disgust, the doc moved to the sink and violently scrubbed his hands with medical soap. Our contact was minimal, but he wasnt taking any chances
[H]is hesitation instantly melted away when I mentioned that a few months earlier I had spent a couple of days in jail. Yeah, thats where you picked it up, he said, repeating it twice.
Levine didnt figure out it was scabies instead of poison oak until after he had transmitted the vermin to his wife. Tough break, sir.
If you have the stomach for it, read more about Levines condition here.
Yup since scabies is transmitted my skin-to-skin contact ( usual through intimate contact during sexual activities) I am sure he had a happy ending
Oh and that skin to skin does NOT include shaking hands. It is hard to pick up scabies unless you are banging someone who has the mites
He is lucky that’s all he caught.
Betcha the doc would have said something else if Mr. Levine had told him he was hanging out with a bunch of Occupy protestors.
Ahh, I see...So, the doctor mentioned in the article had a legitimate concern that the scabies parasites could be transferred to him? Whoa!
So far!
As an LPN in a nursing home many years ago, I contracted scabies from a resident and no sexual contact was necessary. Just helping her from chair to bed.
Warning! Apparently, this "blame" thing is as contagious as his scabies because after reading his blog I find myself blaming his parents for failing to raise a responsible citizen.
We used to spend a lot of time in Mexico. Our daughter, about 4 at the time, got scabies from playing with the local kids. We were right there, so I can assure you no sex was involved. They weren’t even playing Doctor.
Yeah, as if we’re going to believe none of them had them before. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
