Sinead O'Connor Cancels Tour Due To Bipolar Disorder Those who were hoping to catch one of Sinead O'Connor's upcoming performances were disappointed on Tuesday, as the singer has canceled the remainder of her U.S. tour.
As a note posted on her website explains, the "Nothing Compares 2 U" songstress hasn't been feeling well.
"With enormous regret I must announce that I have to cancel all touring for the year as [I] am very unwell from bipolar disorder," O'Connor reportedly wrote in a note on her website, which was then re-posted on a fansite. Her official website appeared to be suspended on Tuesday morning.
"As you all know I had a very serious breakdown between December and March and I had been advised not to go on tour," O'Connor reportedly continued. "But [I] didn't want to 'fail' or let anyone down as the tour was already booked to coincide with the album release. So very stupidly I ignored [my doctor's] advice to my great detriment, attempting to be stronger than I actually am."

We could have told you that years ago.
She is liberal.
QED
or a psychotic break
That makes sense, given her history. It’s a terrible affliction, and hard on everyone who cares about the person.
That’s what happens when you live on a bipolar planet.
Looks like somebody got her to a doctor.
Although I loathe pretty much everything she stands for ideologically, there’s no denying she’s an exceptionally gifted singer blessed with a distinct and powerful voice. She’s led a troubled life and I wish her the best in dealing with whatever demons haunt her.
Yeah, I was gonna post something similar. I’ve known a few people who developed it in their thirties. It ain’t cool. It can be pretty well controlled with meds, as long as they stay on them. It does explain a lot about her past behavior, though. The manic stage made her feel like she was Queen of the World, and could do no wrong. It can get them in a lot of trouble, even killed. And then the depressive stage hits.....
The two seem to go hand in hand, especially alcohol.
What a loser! She’ll probably end up doing herself in. I hope they keep a close eye on her.
I respectfully disagree. Her voice is OK but not all that exceptional to any degree. Among her contemporaries, I think Sara McLaughlin, Tori Amos and Amy Lee of Evanesance all have much more exceptional voices and much more talent as performers and as original song writers.
Sinead O'Connors main claim to fame was making a really good cover and video of a song written by Prince Nothing Compares to U and tearing up a picture of the Pope on SNL. Outside of those, what is she know for? Her crazy antics and certainly not for her music.
I’d feel bad for Ms. O’Connor if she had to give up Showbiz. But she can always get a job as an Airline Flight Attendant. We’ve seen a rash of those lately...coming unglued in mid-flight because they decided not to take their meds!/Sarc
She seemed like such a sweet little Irish singer before the entertainment machine chewed her up and remade her as a Rock Star!
“Momma (and and Daddys) don’t let your babies grow up to be Rock Stars”. Or child movie/TV stars
Especially the girls.
The hell you say. That’s a poke in my eye with a very sharp stick. What ‘twill I do?
Always wanted to give her bald pate a noogie.
Terrible brain disease. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
Ya' gotta' be kiddin'. She's about as talented as Alanis Morissette, who also sounds like a large cat with something stuck in its throat.
Can't anybody just say she a no-talent jerk whose only fame is that she trashed the Christian religion and got a lot of publicity for it?
LOL!
BS. I have heard people in Karaoke bars that sound just as good or better. That kind of tallent is not exceptional.
She only survived in 'show biz' because of her anti-Catholic rants. Without those, she would have been another long-forgotten 'star'.
In other words, she’s a drunk. I’m around drunks all the time (having once been one myself), and I can tell you that every other drunk you see bleats about being “bi-polar.” So, here’s and idea for Sinead: try getting off the sauce coping with the vicissitudes of life like other people do. Bet the “bi-polarism” will ineluctably evanesce.
Just bad drugs.
Fight the real enemy... old fat washed up psycho overrated liberal rock stars.
ROTFL!
Bipolar? phooey.
She needs a good exorcist.
Didn’t realize Shinehead was still working
We'll have to disagree then, although I will cede you that there are better original songwriters. She may be "best known" for her cover of a Prince song, but I really don't want to go down the path of judging music by what's "best known" or most popular. A lot of her more obscure stuff that never got any radio play is exceptional. Her acapella song I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got is an excellent showcase for her voice, and I can think of few songs more haunting than her cover of Scarlet Ribbons, to say nothing of her performances with the Chieftains and other Celtic ensembles.
Certainly, she is "best known" for one song, and a few public antics, but IMHO, a fair judgment or assessment of anybody should consist of an examination of a greater body of their deeds and works.
Bipolar disorder is serious business.
Damn right, especially when someone who has it uses drugs and/or booze.
It only makes it worse.
Damn! I LOVE the way you write, AND think. Is there NOTHING that can happen to a person that it not the fault of some phrase just dreamed up in the last 15 years or so?
Live Aid Sinead - The Bipolar World Tour.
Has a nice ring to it.
And if that doesn’t work, she’ll hold her breath until her face turns blue.
Another pothead develops bipolar disorder.

My son was originally diagnosed with BP, but later that changed to Schizoaffective Disorder. He's doing very well now on the right (expensive) meds. I wish there wasn't so much ignorance about these illnesses in society. Anyone with a loved one with a serious brain disorder knows all too well that they are no laughing matter. In fact it is the lack of empathy and the the way these illnesses are joked about that makes dealing with these illnesses all the more difficult. Thank God for NAMI.

Thank you! I have a son who was diagnosed with BP (since changed to Schizoaffective) and has already tried to commit suicide once. There is nothing whatsoever funny about anyone having these kinds of brain disorders. It makes reading some of the comments in threads like this difficult. I would not wish BP on anyone's family.
