Dr. Mortimer looked strangely at us for an instant, and his voice sank almost to a whisper as he answered:
"Mr. Holmes, they were the footprints of a gigantic hound!"
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Hound of the Baskervilles
The odds of convicting George Zimmerman on any charges stemming from the killing of Trayvon Martin for the crime of being in a neighborhood where Zimmerman thought he didn't belong were always pretty damned long. The local cops screwed the pooch on the case almost from jump. The Florida law under which Zimmerman has sought protection is bizarre and contradictory and can be used to justify homicide in almost every context except paid mob hits and knocking over a bank. The prosecution got caught flatfooted at a bail hearing. And now we have had a couple of weeks of stories in which a "more nuanced" portrait of the shooter has emerged. There was the enhanced video of the back of Zimmerman's head, which seemed to show wounds that were not apparent on the original police video. And then there was the valentine sent to him recently by Reuters which says that Zimmerman chose to arm himself because, once, he and his family were menaced by the neighborhood pit bull.
How this latter bit is in anyway relevant to the fact that, despite having been advised not to by the local police, Zimmerman chose to stalk Martin while armed is a bit beyond me. Did he think Martin was a pit bull? Did he think Martin might have been secreting a pit bull in the depths of his hoodie? Did he think the iced tea and Skittles -- Thanks, Roy -- were pit bull bait to bring the beast out of hiding so Martin could sic him on Zimmerman? Inquiring minds want to know.
Nevertheless, these have combined to create a great shout of joy from the right of the blogosphere, which was amplified by an episode in Mobile wherein the neighborhood loudmouth got into it with some black citizens who, after beating him badly, allegedly started yelling about "Justice for Trayvon," which is now in doubt, and which the Martin family certainly didn't need to have happen with everything else that's going on about the case....
"I can tell you this without a doubt, 100% certainty, that Trayvon Martin was not the motivating factor in this incident," says Cpl. Chris Levy. Deputy Chief Lester Hargrove says investigators believe only four people, including Terry Rawls, were directly involved. They believe the rest of the mob just watched. Police say the beating is the result of a three year neighborhood dispute between Rawls and Owens.
Yeah, like that'll make a difference on your local AM radio dial.
I have felt for a few weeks that nothing good is going to come out of this whole mess. A conviction seems more unlikely than ever, and Zimmerman is now free to make his own case, and Trayvon Martin is still dead, and that is not the only thing about this whole affair that will not change.
And still crickets on the whole Black on Black killings..
I think Mr. Pierce is upset that Al Sharpton’s mob didn’t get to lynch Mr. Zimmerman when they had the chance. Now that the truth is coming out justice may actually be done. But fear not Mr. Pierce, Al and Jesse don’t need much of a cause to get the rioters and looters fired up; think Los Angeles, Detroit, etc.
I didn’t even know Esquire was still around.
More and more I think people are getting ready for them. This whole “prepper” movement and the stellar gun sales since 2007 aren’t a coincidence.
"No_Limits_Nigga" was here

Not a bit of predjudice there!!
The writer assumes he knows what Mr Zimmerman was thinking.
The writer assumes he can without any evidence deduce Mr Zimmermans intent.
The writer assumes without any evidence that he knows what Trayvon Martin was thinking and what his intent was.
The writer is an ass...........
Wow, the comments over on the esquire site are a steaming pile of obama...
I was thinking the same thing. Too many "metrosexual" (p-whipped)
