Honestly, I have not heard anyone say, “It’s a free country” since the late 80’s.
I believe that this is because by then, it became painfully obvious to just about everyone that it isn't.
No nation with as many laws and regulations as ours has cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be termed "free".
